Mrs. Bird made scratch buttermilk baking powder biscuits this morning that were hot and waiting when I woke up. I ate three warm with butter and honey and a cold glass of milk.

About a year and a half ago we were eating a plate of blini (Russian pancakes) and she said "I'd like to make Texan breakfasts. What is your favorite."

"Biscuits"

"How do you make them"

"I don't know but my grandma does."

"OK, I'll call her."

I've had buttermilk biscuits about once or twice a month on Saturday ever since....:D

Add some chocolate gravy to those biscuits and they would be like little bites of heaven on a plate!

I love homemade buttermilk biscuits!

Any wheat food, biscuits included basically don't get made any longer here. Gluten free buttermilk biscuits/pancakes/waffles/cookies, just aren't quite the same.

I love homemade buttermilk biscuits!

About three years ago I was going to fix bisciuts and gravy for my son and his buddies. One asked Mrs. Jag do you know how to fix chocolate gravy. I told him no but would find a recipe. I called my mom and all my aunts and none of them had heard of it. I googled it and practiced with 4 different ones. Finally found one that was good. It is delicious but very rich.

I am glad to here someone that knows what it is.

Would you give it to me? Chocolate gravy is now requested everytime I fix biscuits and gravy. Mine is good but I am always looking for new ones. These boys are all home for the summer from school and I have fixed one round already. Plus the younger ones are catching on.

If it is a secret recipe I understand.

I don't mind sharing it...it would be wrong to keep this recipe a secret...it is too good!

I will write it down and send it to you tomorrow via PM...keep an eye out for it!

It used to be the first thing that I asked for when I arrived at my grannie's house every summer! It was always such a treat.

I have been told that it came from the Depression era when families had to make something sweet from the basics that were in their pantry. It makes sense...

It has to go on biscuits, preferably homemade. Just a little dab will do ya. It is good, my first thought was gross. But then i made it and it is good.

Okay. The biscuits have to be plain though right? I don't think I would like them if the biscuits had butter on it.

Hummus is a cheesy, dippy stuff, usually with something in it like Olives or hot peppers or whatever.

as the Bi-Plane has stated, it is quite tasty.

No.

I feel sorry for Pied. :(

I guess graham crackers are forbidden at Pied's house.

Pretty much. Little one mixes chocolate and marshmallows for s'mores when the rest have graham crackers. She's better than I would be about it.

I found it! I knew that it was already typed out on my computer somewhere!

This is not the type of thing that you serve every weekend...you will get really chubby! It is however a delightful surprise that will please your loved ones every once in awhile.

Chocolate Gravy

1 cup sugar
1 slightly heaping tbsp Hershey’s Cocoa
1 heaping tbsp flour
1 cup whole milk
dash salt
1 tsp vanilla

Mix sugar, cocoa and flour together well in a
non-stick pot. Stir in milk and salt. Cook on medium to high heat until thick while stirring…be patient! Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Serve over open-face hot buttered biscuits…guaranteed to make your family beg for more!

This recipe has been passed down with love through 4 generations...may it bless your kitchen and the hearts of your loved ones!

Thank you so much for posting this and blessing it as well. When asked what makes her food so good my mom always says I pray over it and it is fixed with love. The love makes everything taste better.
