Games? That's the reason for having a computer? Sounds like a juvenile argument to choose one computer over another. I don't own a Mac but I'm looking and I am considering Mac. I hope a PC salesman doesn't try the 'games' sales technique on me.

Mac is far superior in modes of business, especially in the graphic designing department.

I can almost guarantee that 90% of all marketing departments are set up with Macs....beginners to pros...

the reason that mac's are making it's way into the business world more and more is because of the fact that they're almost completely monkey-proof because they have no power or outside thinking to them. it's great for a business where you have people who aren't computer majors working on them.

I loaded Linux Ubuntu and I have my desktop double booting between Windows and Linux. You may want to give it a whirl before you spend some coin on a Mac. I'll never be able to justify spending that much on a Mac.

Don't know. Why do workers at IBM prefer their company macs to windows machines?

The first phase of the pilot program ran from October 2007 through January 2008. It distributed 24 MacBook Pros to researchers at different sites within IBM Research. Participants kept their existing ThinkPads, but were asked to only use them as a “last resort for applications not working yet on the Mac.”

After the four month test period, the 14 research scientists, 8 software engineers, a director, and a VP staff assistant participating in the pilot program were asked to provide feedback.

Of the 22 of 24 who responded, 18 said that the Mac offered a “better or best experience” compared to their existing computer, one rated it “equal or good,” and three said the Mac offered a “worse experience.” Seven reported having no or marginal prior knowledge of using Macs, while 15 reported having moderate or expert knowledge of the platform.

The most powerful programs ran on PC, and a PC = mac too i dont understand why the cultish idiots of the mac faithful try to hide it an operating is the only difference. If your system can handle the majority of the top games your system is usually decent. Thats the main reason they use games as testing methods for video games.

Its like car testing, you wouldn't just take it to a dry road 100 meters long run it from point A. to B and just say ok its good enough.

Wrong a lot of the big industry standards especially in the graphics field can't be run on macs and have to be ran on pc's system the required software required can only be used on the PC. Yes all those lovely movies from Pixar to War of The Worlds usually require 3d max to get all the special effects you see.

The reason mac's are so popular honestly is due to the commercials, any real legitimate person who understands both system would laugh at the commercials.

Honestly for every 1 apple product out there i can show you a cheaper more effective product. The thing with apple is they attempt to make all there products as if its something else when its just the same as the other product with a different name. In essence its like me doing this

I take a car lets use honda civic for example i pull up to a geo metro. The geo metro says," Thats a nice car you have there." The Civic driver would then say ,"Its not a car, it's a kiwi!" Basically trying to exclude it self from what it really is.

And heres a great example.

The most powerful game to run for a while was Crysis if you had a system that could run, holy **** you had some serious power. To run this it would cost Apple 1-2000. Guess what, us PC users could run it full settings 500$ flat. There's more roads with pc's we get more software, more applications, and more internal external parts. Which count for a lot more, apple is finally approaching self upgrade, and guess what? You still are limited with their upgrades.

Anyone with a logical process to research both wouldn't.

Now as a student that had to use both mac anc pc yes i will admit there are some nice features that mac does have for graphic artist. But the over benefit with pc is you have boarder range, more programs, more applciations, more of everything which has its perks.

Is mac bad? Absolutely not, but it's all it tries to hype it self up to be either.

Marketing and Advertising firms are driven on macs...Macs are also introducing themselves into Music Studios for the simplicity of the programs.

So no...im not wrong... Graphic Design majors are being trained to use the Macs because they are the future of graphic design...they are unmatched in simplicity of use.

as far as beginners go...The ilife programs are far better then Adobe CS4...Unless you have taken some courses on GD....You'll be lost on Photoshop, dreamweaver, and so on....

More dissatisfied customers....

Apple easily outdistanced its peers in a PC industry customer-satisfaction survey conducted by Forrester Research that found PC companies are only slightly more well-liked than insurance companies.

An overall satisfaction rating of 80 percent was good enough for Apple to trounce the second-place finisher, Gateway, which scored 66 percent. Forrester surveyed 4,564 U.S. consumers online in October in compiling the results, which were published Friday on the research firm's Web site.

Apple and Gateway were followed by HP, Compaq, and Dell, respectively in the survey results. (Compaq, though part of HP, is generally counted separately in branding surveys because it is marketed very differently than HP-branded computers.) Gateway was the only Windows manufacturer to crack the 65 percent barrier, which is equivalent to an "okay" rating in Forrester's survey. Apple's 80 percent score fell into the "good" category.

The University of Michigan conducts a similar survey each summer and usually comes up with similar results: Apple leading the pack, but amid poor ratings for the overall industry. Only Internet service providers, cable/satellite companies, and health insurance companies scored worse as industries than the PC industry in Forrester's survey; even airlines scored better than PC companies.

The timing of Forrester's release of this data is likely not a coincidence, as Apple this week has responded to Microsoft's latest PC ad campaign with statements emphasizing the Mac experience. Poor customer satisfaction ratings are the downside of Microsoft's marketing message that Windows PCs are the bargain alternative to Macs, in that sometimes, you get what you pay for.

I dated someone that worked in Advertising and they all had Macs. I went to his job and the majority of people there had Macs. They were all over the firm.

I'm not claiming to be a computer expert but I do know that the Mac I've had for the last 2 years has lasted longer than any PC I've had in the past. And I do nothing different than before (surf the net, email, itunes). I don't game. I do basic stuff, yet the PCs I had would die after like 6 months to a year. I'm not a PC hater. I use one at work. I just prefer a Mac. My home computer works better than my work computer. :ninja:

The websites you cruise may be at fault.

Just kidding, sort of. I know many people have said that. But this site is about as racy as my surfing gets. In the end I surf the same sites I did on my PC's and don't get infected. There may truth to it, but I alos have no spyware detection, no firewall programs installed and I'ver never had to defrag my computer.

For music, pro tools is another industry standard fortunate for me i have a friend studying audio engineering. Guess what? There is no difference between the mac or pc version of the program, other than key shortcuts. As long as you fit the system requirements you can run it with virtually no difference. I'm assuming the Mac takes over...does it follow that the virus mutate...or do viruses just go away???

steveo predicted the same thing almost two and a half years ago....

mac's aren't bad but there not a favorite choice, i mean we hear alot of stuff like for example. The upgrade commercial, if you're honestly upgrading your computer you don't have to redo all that and if you were to redo it on a mac it would be the same no wait you would have to buy a new mac...

Same with the no viruses, there are more pc user than mac user of course there will be more virus written for pc than mac, no to mention there are very few programs and games for mac. Theres like a 100 to 1 pc to mac ratio.

both have flaws, here are the ones you don't hear about macs.

Did it cost me about 300-400 more 2.5 years ago? Perhaps, but that's ok by me.

That's entirely different.

Macs have those problems too, the only difference is that Apple's customer service is walking in and getting a new one handed to you instead of calling people in India.

THAT is the real difference between Macs and PC's of comparable cost.

Macs are overpriced for what you get. Yes, they are great pieces of hardware with an amazing OS, but the current Vista and especially Windows7 negate much of the software difference.

Wrong a lot of the big industry standards especially in the graphics field can't be run on macs and have to be ran on pc's system the required software required can only be used on the PC. Yes all those lovely movies from Pixar to War of The Worlds usually require 3d max to get all the special effects you see.

Video editing, for quite some time, has been, in part, created on Mac-based systems...

A linky for ya... http://www.avid.com/products/Media-Composer-Nitris-DX/index.asp

And then some of the Final Cut Pro movies which are all edited on a Mac...

The Rules of Attraction (2002)
Full Frontal (2002)
The Ring (2002)
Cold Mountain (2003) (Academy Award nominee for Best Editing – Walter Murch)
Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)
Super Size Me (2004)
Jarhead (2005)
The Ring Two (2005)
300 (film) (2006)
Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
Happy Feet (2006)
Zodiac (2007)
The Simpsons Movie (2007)
No Country for Old Men (2007)
Balls of Fury (2007)
"Traitor" (2008)
Burn After Reading (2008)
The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Of course most people think Graphics as in Graphic Design, Corporate Graphics, Photoshop Illustrator Indesign, Quark...

All of the below are heavy PC users AND only use Macs in their graphics department...

Continental Airlines
Centerpoint Energy
Remax of Texas
David Weekley Homes

UTMB Gavleston (Well they may be all wet now, Ha!)

Ill say this one more time.

For modes of business Mac is better then PC, hands down. It is just a lot more efficient...less software is needed, and it all around is easier to use.....

I used to own a Mac, until it just got to be to outdated....(Mac II to be exact, i had it until the G4 was introduced...lol)...LOVED it for its time...then it wasn't really superior to much...still a great computer.

I have tons of HP's now, and i bought them brand new 12months ago, and i am disappointed on how much upkeep is necessary (and it wouldn't be that bad if it was one computer, but it isn't)....

From my experience more IT bodies are needed to support a PC office than a Mac office... Yes I know it's the user... But that's what we have to work with... As far as price, Macs do cost more out of the gate... They do break and they do have issues... They also have their niche and that's fine with me...

Well, it depends on what your business is. I'm a software developer and wouldn't give up Linux for anything. I'm sure a graphic artist, composer, or someone in media in general would enjoy a Mac. Just about everyone else would enjoy a PC. Coaches, secretaries, etc.

I wouldn't sell anyone a Mac unless they were a student and were getting a discount plus a free iPod touch and a printer. I couldn't stomach selling someone less hardware for more on the basis that Mac "just works" when I've been working with PC for my entire life and haven't once wondered what it would be like if Windows "just worked." I'm not exactly sure what "just works" means to be perfectly honest.

Not to say that Mac doesn't have plenty of uses and plenty of people who have their reasons for owning one. I own a mac mini which I use to develop iPhone applications but it is the only Mac I own. Considering selling it and getting a white Macbook for "back to school" with a free iPod Touch but haven't made a decision on that yet or put the Mac Mini up onto craigslist to see what kind of value I can get.

On your point about accounting software... most of the software you are talking about have been ported to run natively on OS X anyways. There is still a lot missing but the gap has been bridged, substantially, within the past 5 years.

Does Apple just manufacture a lower end CPU??? Didn't Motorola make the CPU's in older Apple machines???

Not sure how "low-end" it is... The current MP runs with Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processors on the high side... Mac use to use the PowerPC chip from Motorola, but the heat to performance issue was a problem... You can only do so many things to cool a chip down... Intel was the right move for Apple...

I bought my wife a MacBook,iPhone, and a Mini Cooper- now she thinks she's cool, but I get peace of mind- she doesn't stress about viruses (who cares why there aren't many out there, still a fact) and it's easy to use. She doesn't call me for directions any more, and she gets about 42+mpg. This "being cool" sure is practical. OK, as you wish....

I's back We last left off at

OOOOOhh was it really backwards? lets

Pc's can travel down 98% of roads

With a pc i can run .EXE programs, lets check the mac... NOO Thats macs answer to anti virus and anti everything! You're unable to run executables(exe) files. So guess what Those roads 98% us pc users can use them. Its like taking a road trip. I can take side roads if i want for a great view, and a faster journey. Mac would have to stay on the high way plain and simple.[/FONT] Ohhh and there is more coming just sit tight boys, island hoping is a tedious task.

So i'm back and got a good chuckle out of this.
VGA performance difference

Well Macs usually prides it self on having the best hardware. The only problem is all the hardware configured for mac has been out on pc so long when they reconfigure it for a mac, Something better is already out for the pc. Remember for a while ati can't run on a mac. Moron jobs eventually fixed his error, but look. He can't even run latest model.

Want to see the difference

A small quote to why games have some importance

And everyone knows mac has a gaming deficiency

Oh and i'll be back, just getting warmed up :)
now that i'm back time to pick up

Mac flaws period...
Macs love to pride power & simplicity vs confusion. Fact on a mac, if i lose a file ITS GONE PERIOD! On my pc i can go into DOS and restore it...

Because asking them to remove most of it is to hard? Or Was the control panel / programs uninstall programs/ change startup programs/ a bewildering process?
But wait, mac helped them develop the system. But yet why does mac have such a game deficiency? Oh wait they have a program deficiency as well. Maybe mac users, "just don't know how to use it."
UPDATING
Updating is way simpler on a pc, when i wanted to update my pc's VGA. All i had to do was just unscrew the 2 bolts at the rear of the pc. Pull out my old vga card, and popped in the new one! With a mac well...

Why does this matter? Since 2005 all i had to update was a simple vga card for 210$. That beats the crap out of replacing an entire system. Mac has no driver updates or upgrades, which is a poor flaw. Why? All hardware, ram, processor, vga etc have driver updates. Since mac doesn't allow these to take place. Your unable to get the most out of your system. WHOOOOOPS, but don't take my word for it! The mac faithful will just tell you its unimportant and unnecessary.

What about that lovely OS they pride so much.

WAI WHA!?!?!?!? WTF!!!! YOU MEAN THE WHOLE TIME THEY (mac cultist) BASHED GATES FOR MAKING HIS OWN OPERATING SYSTEM AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS AT AGE 16 YET THEY JUST KNOCKED SOMEONE ELSE'S OFF !?!?!?

crashes

When you have a crash on a pc, its usually because of 3rd party software, you know the EXE programs we can run that your Oh so praised macs can't even run unless you re-write the program which i doubt most of you can do. If something crashes vista will usually tell the user what it was, why it crashed, and how to fix it. On a mac, well it will tell you nothing. Just a quack quack quack, and a restart click.

jaw dropping abilities
Iphotos
So you apple(mac) invented something that pc users have had as free ware for years? Way to keep up with the times...

BAAW VISTA BAAAW

Ahhhh vista its such a bad operating system, yeah its slow and all those new features are such a problem. I guess its time to down grade to xp.XOMG WAAAAAAAI I could just partition the drive and run both...
Better support?
You ever notice how a good portion of mac users, talk about driving to the mac store for support? See the great thing about my alien ware laptop is if i need help or if i had a problem i could click live support and a representative for alien ware would completely fix my computer from their own local setting with out me doing a thing. Saves a person time I could continue about my day doing w/e.

ooooh the famous mac cult of elitiist ****** bags that always have the need to remind them if the product isn't apple it sucks.

Casual convo a tech school.

Guy 1: Yeah so i definitely want to get that new 9800 gts
Guy 2: yeah its the difference is noticeable plus its a huge difference in performance.

Guy 3: OMG IF YOU HAD A MAC YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH ANY OF THAT MACS DON'T GET VIRUS AND ITS LOOKS WAY BETTER. PLUS MACS NEVER FREEZE OR BREAK.

Guy 1&2: lets go....

Guy 3: where are you guys going?

Guy 1&2: to do two things mac users can never do. Get laid, and have a life.

you know what, you are so right you have no idea.

well lets see what our lovely pc market has to offer.
oh and trust me mac fans this wont be over fast...

Macs always known for being top of the line.

Hmmm the best video card they can run atm the is a 8800 gts, Shame us pc user have the luxury of the newly released 9800 :) not to mention ati isn't computable with mac. Another edge over mac.

Oh lets look at processor, those new lovely quad cores are oftly powerful again us pc users had them months before the were converted for macs. Oh thats right moron steve jobs ran with intel, shame the amd's are the next best things coming out. Again pc users will have the mass advantage again.

video and performance. I'll gladly add on to this tomorrow. Till then i'll leave this 100% accurate picture portraying both..

From 11/07

no you want, the mac osx already has been cracked and is distributed over bitorrent lime wire and such. it's only a matter of time before people start making such such for mac users. There are viruses and what not for macs.

From 2/07

mac's aren't bad but there not a favorite choice, i mean we hear alot of stuff like for example.

Haha, of course. Why can't both sides just accept that Macs are overpriced but btter for media editing and PCs are cheaper and better for just about everything else? I mean, neutral sources and people who have forgotten more than any of us will ever know say the quality is the same. All I ever hear from Mac users is, "All my friends have to buy a new PC every month but I've had mine for 12 years now!" And nobody gets a virus unless you're stupid. If you feel the need to get a Mac to prevent yourself from doing it, then be my guest! It's a safe bet. ...arguing semantics here. Akin to saying I'm not afraid of grenades but I am afraid of dynamite. They both explode and are more or less designed to either annoy you or damage your machine. If you want to get down to it a bad Trojan is probably much more dangerous to the end user than a bad virus.

...arguing semantics here. Akin to saying I'm not afraid of grenades but I am afraid of dynamite. They both explode and are more or less designed to either annoy you or damage your machine. If you want to get down to it a bad Trojan is probably much more dangerous to the end user than a bad virus.

Like i said trojans are in the G and the B they way the behave is up the the person who controls it.

The software many schools use to monitor students as well as job software to monitor employee's behave the same.

It can be as bad as that.

Or it can be just cookies that will pop up every now and then, change your main page to another. They can bad, they can harmless, they can be good.

Again Sashimi =/= Sushi yet people use Sushi to describe Sashimi.

Sashimi is a Japanese delicacy primarily consisting of very fresh raw seafood, sliced into thin pieces

Sushi is vinegar rice, usually topped with other ingredients

Yet people still Sushi as if it means Sashimi.

Its like having intercourse with someone who has STD's do you blame them for having them or yourself for sleeping with them.

Most viruses and spyware are achieved because people run programs with out even checking it out.

It was like high school when i used kazaa and got all the spyware, that was my fault. I guess i could have blamed pc as the cooperate even though it was I who agreed to allow 3rd party software to be installed on my PC for using kazaa...

Okay, first of all a MacMini does not "come" with a mouse... If you got one in the deal, that's another story... And secondly, I love Fry's... wouldn't know what to do with half of the stuff in there but I don't know what to do with a lot of the things at Home Depot either...

I am not the one who said it. You did.

Which still doesn't change or alter the fact that a Trojan isn't a virus. No matter how many searches or efforts you make to attempt to make that trojan a virus it's not going to be one.

I used trojan as general term for a group of things, it still doesn't make it a virus.
car =/= motorcycle but apparently regardless of how many times the dealer tells you it's not you still think it is.
