For those of you that are maturing in years . . . . .
Does it seem wierd to realize that you're now O L D ?
I have a kid marching in the Rose Parade on Monday.
I was in the Rose Bowl game for 3 years in row in the 70's.
Now, to have a child marching in the parade(From TEXAS no less)
is quite the full circle coming about.
Growing up in southern California and seeing the parade and watching the
"Grandaddy of them All"(The Rose Bowl) There are a lot of memories flooding through my noggin.
I guess this is just life, but doesn't seem wierd sometimes?
Just a thought.(I have so few coherent ones now-a-days!)
Knock'em dead Allen Eagle Escadrille!

BEST of luck to your band!! That's so exciting. Ours went to the Rose Bowl in '72 and then Macy's in '74 - very exciting stuff. I'll be watching for them...I hear they are a monstrous sized band:eek:

Yeah I must be getting old because some of these kids I see playing college ball look like they're about twelve years old. My son is a HS Freshman. Saw the news story on the Allen band, I'm sure it'll be an experience they won't forget.

One of the young engineers at work was saying that he believed that you are only as old as you feel. I explained that he had it backwards, first you get old, then you start feeling old.
Old age is not what it used to be. When I was growing up 60 was decrepit - people that age had trouble walking. I turn 58 in march, I'm actually a better athlete today than I was in my 20's; stronger, faster, way better able to control what my body does in an athletic movement. There are several reasons for this Nutrition being one of them. Working with a world class martial arts teacher is a big part of it.
The main thing I notice in getting older is that I am injured more easily, and it takes longer to heal. Other than that everything feels about the same.
The main thing I do see different is when I look in a mirror; there is this old man staring back at me - he looks just like my memory of my maternal grandfather from when I was a child in the early 1950's.
"Where did you come from, and where did that young fellow go?"

If you were talking to me - sorry never got married. Long story, wrote it down once - let some of my frineds read it. They all had to stop reading it - one of them said to another "I've never seen anything so painful to read that I had to put it down before I could finish".The other one said "I know what you mean, I had to do the same thing." A third asked if I had tried to kill myself because of what I had gone through.
I have gone out with some incredibly beautiful women; a couple of lead singers in Rock bands, a couple of models, a runner up for Penthouse Pet of the Year. As far as I know none of them ever got married either.
Just all part of my weird Forrest Gump like life.

For anyone who might be interested here is a picture of one of the rock singers.
http://www.hal-pc.org/~rcanup/rockstar.jpg
Her name is Jacquie Shane she was lead singer in the group Sheer Khan which toured Europe and played the US festival in England in front of about 100,000 people. She had a beautiful 3 octave voice. Visualy she was a sort of female David Lee Roth; same kind of athletic performer; women in the audience would often stare at her in disbelief - they had never seen another woman move like that.
Jacquie was a former national collegiate champion in table tennis. Simply a great athlete, Once I heard two women talking about her when we went roller skating, one of them said: "I don't want to be like her, I want to BE her!"
Jacquie could throw a football 40 to 45 yards and hit you right in the hands with every pass, and she could catch anything she could get her hands on. We used to take a football to Galveston beach when we went there - the other men at the beach would stare in awe at this beautiful girl diving for bad passes and coming up with the catch.
After we went our separate ways she had a long love affair with Peter Gabriel. She is currently an artist (painter) in the Washington Baltimore area.

I would rather have people ask how old I am, than how old was he.

Some good comments . . . . .
I went and played basketball this morning for the first time in about a year or so.
Holy caca! I can't stride down the court! My back is stiff! The shoes are too small!
I'm a mess!
In my mind I'm still 18. The body hasn't done much lately in regards to working out. I'll start right now getting in better shape. 50 is right there knockin'.
'08,
So you're in the band? Do you play ball AND do the band thing?
In the past few years there have been some kids on Allen's team that would come out and play with the band at half time. I think that is great! It will get and keep you well rounded.
Go U.S.C.

Allendad my biggest problem in this department is the beer. It's not my waistline; it's floor space. You see, I refuse to acknowledge the fact that I (and my friends) are getting older. I continue to purchase the 30-packs like I always have, but I can't consume them like I did.
I also refuse to stop smoking (good luck Wide) and believe that in the long run I am saving money by prepurchasing smokes I don't yet need.
Which raises the question...How much alcohol, tobacco and firearms (ammo) is one guy allowed to have stored in his house?

Right on both counts!:( I just turned 56 and helped my daughter move from 3rd floor to 3rd floor apts. Her fiance (which, by itself ages me) went at the speed I used to. By keeping him to a reasonable (for me) rate, I survived nicely. No injuries, just soreness :)

The first time I ever felt like I was getting old was back in the 80's. I was at Trinity's campus waiting for the bonfire to start when a boy-student approached me and called me mame. It was already getting dark and I wondered how he could see me that good to determine I was a mame.
Congratulations to the Allen band - I'll be watching for them in the parade.

Congratulations to the Allen band - they looked fantastic on TV. They made me proud when they marched down the street playing Texas songs.

Hey mad_fan...
How much alcohol, tobacco and firearms (ammo) is one guy allowed to have stored in his house?
