of course

I probably should've said "if then, who"

Keep in mind he has one of the largest salaries in the NFL.

whats the deal with him now then?

He's a moron who thinks he's above the team. He thinks that the Redskins will turn on him like they did Bailey and Smoot. Except that Bailey and Smoot didn't wanna be Redskins and apparently Lavar claims he wants to retire a Redskin. He makes way too much money, and he apparently doesn't listen to coaches. And if he plays in the system, he could be dangerous. I also don't think the coaches wanna rush him onto the field.

so hes inactive and yet you still have to pay him?

he's basically disappointed that he's not getting the PT he used to. He thinks that the redskins will try and trade him after the season, or cut him.

Nope, he's active. He had knee surgery and he was complaining that the Skins jipped him out of 6 million, he sat out the first 4 or 5 games of the season. Came back, wasn't as dominant as he used to be. And in St. Louis, he got injured and hasn't played since. And apparently he got into an arguement with a coach sometime this week.

But this is all speculation on the media so I'm not too sure about it. But I had a feeling before this that they would've gotten rid of Lavar anyway. He takes up way too much cap.

Maybe the Raiders but I doubt it. They are going to have to cut him and take the hit on the cap. All of his signing bonus will be fowarded towards next years cap. Ouch. What was his signing bonus? It could be a lot of dead money, they may not even have enough cap room to make that move without losing other players they want to sign. They may be forced to keep him.

And some of the reasons i've heard are, he wants to retire a redskins. he's looking beyond football, and the more obvious one....maybe he's realized he's not what he was.

It's not as much as Coles (thank God)....or, well, maybe it is....but it may be better to just take the hit as opposed to keep paying him. Or maybe just keep him until 07 a.k.a "uncapped year".

They could also explore a buy out. Not sure how willing he would be to do that. If they threaten to keep him and he wants to retire.. that is possible.

He said that the story in the paper that had him saying I want to be traded or released is false and he didn't want to cause any confusion.

So once 07 hits the nfl won't have a salary cap? This is news to me and I watch espn and fsn everyday. If they don't have one I think the integrity of the nfl might get taken down a peg, the wealthy will stop at nothing to get what they want, like geoge steinbrenner (sp?). The cap is what makes the nfl elite in my eyes, its more of a chess game rather than checkers.

As far as Lavar goes, his attitude alone is enough to cut him and take the financial hit, then rebuild off of that, he's old news and just maybe washed up. If he can't stay healthy he's definitley done for in my book.

There may or may not be a cap in 07.....the league and someone else are still negotiating the "Collective Bargaining Agreement" (CBA) and it doesn't look like it will be signed. And Upshaw (executive in NFL) said that if there is at least one year that is uncapped....then the cap will most likely never come back.

If there is no cap, people like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder would rule all. And Snyder showed in '99-'00 that he is willing to throw money to big players.

As Lavar....I don't know much about the situation but I trust Gibbs'll handle it.

No, eventually the players will sign a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The NFLPA is not that strong. It is just a matter of time. The NFL would be crap without a cap.

Dude, there will be a CAP. Trust me. There has to be some sort of CBA signed for a season to be played and the owners will not budge on having a CAP. There will either be a CAP or no CBA signed meaning a strike.

Hey Reagan.. if you ever get assigned an informative essay in HS.. it is tons of fun to do one on different salary caps of the different leagues. I did my senior paper on it.. learned a lot.

I practically knew the last NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement inside out. I was there about minimum and max contracts, BYC, the Bird exception, the lower-level exception, luxury taxes, and the whole 9 yards.

That hockey cap really cut into salaries this year, but they needed that. Baseball will probably never have one. The basketball cap is about right. I've always thought the football cap was too low.

If they're going to cut him, they might want to wait until after June 1st so the cap hit for the bonus is prorated over 2 years. A lot of guys are getting smart and make the team pay them a roster bonus in like March.

Threatening to keep him only works is he wants to be traded.

I think he should reunite with Shawne Merriman at the chargers...they will make a killer Defense...
