so which one would you have attended? I would have gone to both. The tux rental would be good for both nights. you and rage would need two different dresses though...

oops, I meant rage would need 2 different dresses and you would need....

news flash.
america is going backwards instead of forwards when it comes to segregation. it is most definitely still out there, and it's a pretty big problem.

About 5 years ago I had the opportunity to attend (actually my wife forced me to go) the Senior Prom at L.D. Bell High School. Bored, I sat in the front lobby and watched the couples come in. A particular situation caught my eye and I then kept my eyes open to this situation thru the rest of the night. L.D. Bell's prom was open to all but not all attended. Mostly it was white couples. There were (and I counted) 21 black males in attendance. 20 of those 21 brought white girls to the prom as dates. Only one brought a black girl. There were two other black girls in attendance that night, they came together without a male escort. I guess the prom was open to everyone except for the ladies of color.

I had an interesting read about a week ago. It talked about how most of the interracial couples at the beginning of the 1900's were black women and white men and how that trend has been reversed with white women and black men now.

I still say a lot of the appeal is of the forbidden fruit variety and I won't argue that hasn't affected me over the years. The article I read seemed to feel that black males were more accepted by white families than black females. It was an interesting read with discussions of gold diggers and the ol' B word for the black females and it also discussed issues about the white families being leery of the black guy's intentions. I don't remember what all it said about the black perspective on the white males and females, but they're more accepted.

After they were shown the door, they all sat at a KFC and exchanged their feelings towards the prom segregation.

I've always thought that was dumb too. Just because I like an apple one day doesn't mean I don't want a peach or orange the next day!:D

There are great people of all races and I can't figure out why people pigeon-hole themselves into certain colors.

In my book, there just aren't enough good men or women out there to stick to apples, oranges, bananas, or papayas. I'm not saying apples can't be your favorite; but I am saying I still think it's crazy when people say "This only." Saying that, I'll always have a soft spot for apples!:D

It was also the perfect setup line when I mentioned apples, oranges, and various other items on trees in an analogy to RedRage!:p
