This yaer, we had a very deep team with many seniors. because of this, that means a lot of players are leaving. Next year might be a little tough, can the classes of 2007, 2008, and maybe even 2009 step up?

We did graduate a number of good players, but we have a few coming back, just not as many as you would like. I saw the JV twice last year and there was no outstanding talent that I could see. Almost no speed at all. The freshman team had all the talent. With the playoffs expanding to 4 teams, we should make the playoffs, but if we are to do much more than that, those freshmen, who will be sophs., will have to step up and be grown a$$ men........so to speak......in my opinion.
This is an early opinion and could change drasticaly before next season. Let's revisit this in May after the spring game.

Garland will has 6 offensive and 6 defensive starters returning. Offensively, a much more mature Greg Hunter, a healthy Malcom Williams, and an improving Johnny Wooten headline the skill positions. Also, look for J. Caldwell to be used at RB and WR (this kid has blazing speed). Garland also has a bunch of linemen with experience (a result of Garland's policy of rotating players). Defensively, Chancy Agiurre (sp?) and Dwight Hamilton return - Garland always has to replace defensive talent, and always do.
Also, a LOT of sophomores will be on the varsity next year - GoOwls is right about the JV, but there was a lot of talent on the freshman team.
I think Garland may well look a lot like this year's South Garland team - a bunch of underclassmen who will have to gel. However, in my opinion, this team may have a chance to be something awfully special.

you cant forget horn... that kid has really stepped up his game the last couple of years and should be someone to look out for as a senior in 2006.
I saw a couple of j.v. games this year, and i was not at all impressed. Just like goowls4x said, there was no one that really stuck out and proved themselves to be anything special. However, the freshman teams have got some kids that should step up and make some serious noise. Garland may not be great in the 2006 season, but the way its looking now they will be decent.

Come on Garland fans we see the same thing every year.... when has garland ever had problems replacing talent. You got three players in the top 100 in the state of texas coming back Malcolm Williams, Marquise Frazier, Johnny Wooten along with Starting QB Hunter Wr Little Ol Greider Perez Perches on offense and on defense to go along with Frazier you go the defensive newcomer of the year Chauncey Agahyare last years newcomer of the year Michael Horn and other Lbs Uvalle and Maville Dbs Dwight Hamilton Brian Johnson and ATH Jacquez Caldwell. The player im gonna say has a breakout years is DT casey walker.
The real question we needa be asking is can coach jordan take garland to that next level.

Along with standouts Malcom Williams, Marquis Frazier, and Johnny Wooten, the Garland Owls should have many people step up in less heralded fashion.
Offensively, the owls should be pretty solid, returning 6 starters and having many people who rotated be in the starting rotation.
O-Line...this should be one of the owls strongest facets. Having starters returning in Greider, Perches, and Perez, with Puckett and McFall/Redding filling in the tackle spots, this will be an undersized but powerful group (but thats how the owls like their linemen, right? haha)
Tight End poses a big question, as Zermeno and Wilson are fighting for the starting spot, but should make a great 2 TE set combo.
In the backfield, you have Johnny Wooten filling in the starting spot, with Jacque Caldwell getting some snaps as well.
Theres a returning quarterback in Greg Hunter, and the recieving core should be strong with the return of Verity, Little, and Williams.
The big question with the owls offense is if they can utilize a good mix of the pass and the run, and use the tight ends in the passing game for big plays as happened this year.
Now for the defense,
D-line...The owls should have a lot of help with Casey Walker returning to the DT spot after sitting out last season due to an ACL tear sustained during spring ball. The other starter spot is up for grabs, with Antwine and Coleman being the two main contenders. The DE spots are filled by standout Marquis Frazier and Defensive Soph of the year 12-5a Chancey Agahyre (splchk lol, nobody can spell his last name). The linebacking core will be led by 2 year starter Michael Horn, with Uvalle filling in the mike lb spot and the 3rd spot still up for grabs. In the secondary, you have the owls strongest facet with Dwight Hamilton, Oliver Mitchell, Malcolm Williams, and Brian Johnson leading the group. Defensively, the owls seem to have no problem restocking year after year, earning a reputation as one of the areas hardest hitting teams.
Special Teams wise, the owls should be strong with a returning punter in Verity and a returning place kicker in Mladen Bjelica.
The owls are looking to have a great year in 2006

I would also look for Lavar Hart (Donte's little bro) to get every chance to make the varsity. He would add some depth to RB.
Coaches say that Johnny Wooten can be better than Dante Sloan - his main problem is that he tends to run straight up like a sprinter. If that can be corrected and he can add some bulk, watch out!

I thought the Tom Landry Classic was week 2 or 3 of the season? I didnt think it was that early in the season. I remember we would always play DeSoto in the TL game and it was usualy during the 3rd preseason game; what is that? week 2?

It used to be in week 2, I think, but in '04 they moved it to zero week - HP played Ryan, and Mesquite played Allen.
We will also play Plano East and DeSoto in non-district. Realignment will dictate whether we need a 4th non-district game...

No more Carter and Ennis eh? hmmmm!;)

Ennis doesn't want to play us anymore - if we need a 4th non-district game, Carter is a possibility. Some seem to think that Wylie will be added to the district, and in that case, we would only need three non-district games.

Im glad garland is back in the classic. It's always fun to travel a little bit and play in a nice college stadium. We shouldnt have any trouble getting revenge on Allen for the playoffs a couple of years ago. :D

Rough, even a football impaired, band parent like yourself should be able to discern the difference in scheduling and beating recent multiple state champion, Ennis, and the creampuffs in the bottom 20 that you guys choose to slaughter like trophies on the wall gotten from a private game ranch, each season........surely you see the difference.........maybe not.:D

What an odd statement.Garlands non-district games for the last two years (Plano East, DeSoto, Carter and Ennis) was maybe the toughest in the state. Those folks that do rankings show those teams to be among the top, and records prove it!

Third rouund is pretty deep, especially since the only other school in the history of the GISD to go three deep is South, along with us this year. Remember who the big dog is in this district until someone can match us in performance.
BTW, how's the basketball team? Band doing well? :D :D

G.H.S. has gone three deep eight times. Actually went six deep once.lol:D
Many years ago, they went two deep a few times, when the second round was the semi finals! Been to the finals five times, won four;)

By bringing up basketball, I was taking a backwards slap at his football team.......as in "since your football team didn't make the playoffs, I guess you can focus on basketball or band contest".
You kids need to learn about being sarcastic with your nemisis.
And it was such a great line too. :D :D

I saw what you meant, I was just trying to beat Rough to the comeback...if he said that Garland's b-ball team sucked right now, we'd just say duh, we know that and we'd have even more to make fun of him for. Think of it as a preemptive strike.

Any guesses on next year's non-district schedule?
owlfan 1

GHS will play Allen in the Landry classic in week zero, then likely keep their games vs. PESH and DeSoto. If a 4th non-district game is needed (depending on realignment), Carter is a likely opponent.

How is Allen supposed to be next year? They will probably win half time, but I bet the Owls pull out the real game!
