The #1 and only rule of remakes of original songs is:

If it isn't better than the original, or it doesn't offer something new and compelling that makes it listenable, it shouldn't be done.

The main one I can think of is an old Elvis song. Now Elvis, you would think, is untouchable. His songs just don't sound right out of anyone else.

Dwight Yoakum did a remake of "Suspicious Minds" back in the 90's and I personally like it better than the original, and the original is to this day one of my favorite Elvis songs.

Dwight put a twist on it that seperates if from the Elvis mystique.
