Since Dragons were number 1 in 2 of the 3 polls, thats makes them number 1 because the lakeland(??or something liek that) only got number 1 in that and like 2 or 3 in the others(i think im not totally sure)..so i was just wondering

what are you wondering? if some doofuses from cincinnatti or new jersey thinks slc is better or worse than some other team? or are you wondering whether this intrinsically flawed and irrelevant ranking system can hold a candle to the actual achievements of the dragons. the state championship is all that matters because it was earned, not bestowed. please lose the fascination with the joke that is the national hs rankings.

Of course it's mythical but it's a good recognition all the same. It's nice to be respected by people who spend a lot of time evaluating high school football teams.
Having said that, the state title is a much more important achievement.
SLC was #1 is six national polls or computer power rankings. The only poll that I am aware of that didn't rank them #1 was the USA Today poll in which they were ranked #2.

the whole national title thing was really exciting in '04, because it was knew, and the first time something had happened to our school. this year, it was definitely all about the state championship...the national title was reletively unspoken of. i think it's come to many people's senses how ridiuculous, and pointless they are
all i know is i watched both slc and lakeland and i dont care about what some poll says im going to go bye what i saw with my own two eyes. IMO i dont think this years slc could have pulled it of against lakeland but for sure last years team would have spanked them

they are from cali and florida...and anyways i wasnt joking about that...i love southlake i was born here. and yes i know it was earned. southlake doesnt have the best athletes but they work the hardest and want to maintain their reputation and they become the best by working hard in the season and the off season.

Lakeland Fla and Springdale Ark would give SLC a good run for their money. I would put my money on Springdale winning if they were playing.
Either way, SLC should have the National Title this year. At least we've got the title back in the South again.. :)

I saw Springdale play and I don't think they would stand a chance against the best in Texas. They beat a pretty bad Evangel team. I guess I would have to see them against better competition.

Yeah, it was first game of season for both and ECA never did really pull it together. I still think they could have beaten ECA really bad had they wanted to.
It's really a shame that Springdale is done now...With the school district splitting and the coach splitting, it could be years before they have a high calibre team again.

I would like to point out that technically SLC qualifies as National Champion of Texas - since this was an independent country before we joined the Union. Because of that the Texas flag is the only state flag which may be legally flown at the same height as the U.S. flag at athletic events.
By the way, if there are any high schools outside of Texas suffering from the delusion that they are better than SLC I suggest that they try playing Katy instead - that will give them a very sudden introduction to the reality of Texas high school football.
I suspect that the average 5A football team in Texas would be state champion in at least 30 states.
And yes, they play very good football in Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and several other states.
And yes, your team has some great players on it.
At one of the Katy play off games I sat next to some people who had moved to Katy from California - they said that they had never dreamed that high school football could look anything like that.

It seems that everyone has sat next to that person. I haven't sat next to that person. That person prolly didnt watch much football out in Cali. Or else they were just trying to make you feel good.
Now, quit your chest-thumping. We all know that SLC is the National Champion. What more do you want?
If I was a team and I wanted to play the best team in the state of Texas or the Country, I would take my game right on up to SLC. Why would I even consider playing Katy if I was in the mood to knock off the best? Katy lost remember???

Its very close. i think if newton would have had more experiance then for sure. but you cant compare him to luna(not yet at least) and i think luna made that team better than this years. i played against him and he was a tough kid to tackle. also the WRs just seamed to have more impact plays in 04. i mean i dont know but thats just from outside looking in

the offense is hardly comparable. This years passing attack was far more supreme, and part of that was because McElroy is not as mobil as Daniel. With Daniel and Luna in the backfield, it's hard to compare to Newton and McElroy, because Newton is a special talent.
I think the difference has to be the defense, which this year's is far better.

i dont think it's something that just began or will just end. it refers to the excellence of carroll football through time. Today we are still continuing the winning 'tradition' that we began in 3A, winning 3 state titles, and winning 3 more in 5A. The 'tradition' wont just end if we lose some games, because as history shows our program finds ways to bounce back and win titles.

His playoff stats were much better.
I'm convinced that the 2005 Dragon team was much better than the 2004 version. They had a couple of games that were close at times in the playoffs but in the end the 2005 Dragons dominated every playoff team they faced.

I like all the football polls and think they're a lot of fun to keep up with during the regular season. I realize it's always more fun when your team is near the top, but nevertheless, I like seeing an "indifferent" person's perspective.

I would have to agree that, depth wise, this bunch of receivers is the best we've had around in a while. McElroy could certainly toss a better long ball than either Chase. As I've said in the past, I'm waiting on declaring Newton better than Luna. They were asked to do two different things. Case in point, Luna's sophomore year (02) they had 3 senior receivers with over 1,000 yards and a senior QB with over 1,000 rushing. His role was to block and run to keep them honest. It will be interesting to see if Newton gets the carries next year when he does not have the stable of receivers and has to share carries with a running QB as Luna had to do all three years. It is no secret that McElroy was not a threat to run. As I've posted in the past we seldom, if ever, ran a couple of plays that will be added back into our arsenal next season. I went back and did some homework, here is a big difference in a running QB vs a non-running QB
Tre's Stats
171 carries - 1,345 yrds - 13 td
19 Recep - 296 yrds - 2 td
Luna stats
139 carries - 972 yrds - 16 td
27 recep - 452 yrds - 2 td
Here is hoping that we have some receivers really step up next year. That will keep a lot of teams from stacking the box to stop Riley and Tre.

When you get here you will see what kind of district CISD really is. Then you will realize it matters not what the players and parents want. Be prepared to ***** if it will make you feel better but, don't think you will be able to change a thing. We have a BOT that would make government agencies jealous.

It is hard to say because high schools from other states do not play the same level of competition.
Lakeland may have been no more than a Lufkin who demolished inferior competition.
You put Lufkin in another state - watch them run the table - and look unbeatable.
If you watch Lufkin play in person then see Southlake play you would swear that Lufkin would destroy them but it is not the case.
Same with Trinity and others.

I watched Lakeland play on TV and they had a lot of individual athletes, but I don't think they would be able to hang with Carroll, Katy, Lufkin or Trinity...they would get frustrated after a while with Carroll and start pointing fingers..just my opine...

Good case and point Abilene High handled the #1 team in Missouri with relative ease and got blasted by SLC. I'm pretty sure if Abilene had been in Missouri they would've ran the table fairly easily and yet here in Texas some say they are not even a top twenty team.
I like the fact that there is a lot more inter-state games being played. At least it's adding to the validity of national polls.

The same could be said for SLC. Or any of the "good" teams in Texas. Put them out in Cal, Penn, or NC, Fla, wherever and see what could happen. Nobody really knows for sure. What we do know is that Ohio beat a Texas team. A Texas teams beat a Mizzou team, and a Texas team beat 2 Louisiana teams.
That's the only games I know about. I'm sure I missed some less than 5A games.
My point more than anything else is that it does nothing for the image of Texas football to constantly thump your chest and not back it up. And I know I know I know... Nobody cares what other people think... If that were true, nobody would care about a mythical title here in Texas. But I assure you, people here care.
