View Full Version : How was your team dissed?

Post how your team was disrespected by an opposing team (bands, parents, etc).
Longview played the Lion King theme song during the fourth quarter of our game with John Tyler. It was funny to hear all the little kids singing along and so happy they knew the song being played.
I guess Longview was dissed pretty bad by South Garland. LOL

even though we won the game, we were disrespected real bad by Harker Heights....about an hour and 15 mins. before the game, we arrive and do the whole victory walk thing and walk on the field to get to the locker room.....but when walkin on the field, the Height players were already on it and tauntin us and doin there thing............lol....
and other one was homecomin vs. Temple....we have a TV show that broadcast the game on Tv on Wednsdays.....well our people interview the opposin teams coach and coach welch....while welch was gettin interviewed, temple players were runnin in front of the camera and doin there thing durin the interview....it was funny to see it on TV and a 40 point whippin followin it...

You definitely got the last laugh Dawgs - great season. Temple should have known you'd bring the wood to 'em -- HH had a good team as well.

I can't ever recall in my days of watching North Shore of anyone ever dissing the team. Now as for the band well that's another story. I remember one year we were playing Beaumont Central in Beaumont. As our band and drill team ended their performace the Central fans booed them.

Colleyville Heritage boo'd our Alma Mater. We proceeded to thrash them 59 - 28, with McElroy scoring on a almost a 50 yard run within the first minute. McElroy.....50 yard run....now that's insulting.

I'm pretty sure every school has used "Dragons aren't real" or "Dragons only exist in fairytales, welcome to your worst nightmare". The sad thing is they think they are being original.
Colleyville and Grapevine both had the 'Carroll is a girl's name' shirts....pure hilarity i might add.
What made me really embarassed was when kids at carroll were wearing "Katy is a girls name" shirt...

I just must have missed seeing that.
I personally have considered schools to be classier when they avoid dropping trashing the opponent messages. The first thing I noticed at SLC's Texas Stadium banners was pumping school support, not needing to 'dis' opponent. That got my attention. I feel you look weaker by dogging them (v. building up your own). You always get individiual's messages that are off that standard; I am sure there were a few Katy side shirts with the same.

Colleyville used the 'welcome to your worst nightname' on a large sign. Funny thing is I didn't see the sign until halftime and SLC was ahead by 24. I was wondering if that was my worst nightmare, what a good dream would have been.

I agree. I thought that was a disgrace and the Heritage parents, teaching staff and the principal should be very embarrassed and ashamed of their student body. But best part was the Carroll reply - applauding the Heritage Alma Mater.

When Coach Smith was at Aldine, he had to approve all signs that were going to be put up in the stadium and the run threws as well. That is because back in the mid 90s, the cheerleaders made a runthrough that was nice on the front, but on the back, where the team would see it, they wrote "beat the $h!t out of MacArthur." He got PO when saw that and the rules changed. That is why almost all of Aldine's signs are pro-Aldine instead of anti-the other team.

Pot.Kettle.Black. That is tooooo funny!
We played Dobie in the playoffs in 98 and they came on our message board and talked lots of smack. Over and over they refered to us as "Little Miss Katy." There were signs in the stands, too. We beat them and never heard from those posters again.
Yep - no one's ever called us Little Miss Katy before. I don't recall Dobie calling us that again in 99 or 04, though. Didn't work the first time. :D
Oh and then there is one of our district rivals. For years, when it would get quiet before the National Anthem, some kid would scream out, "Katy Su cks!" We thought it was one of their strange traditions and that they did it for everyone, but they haven't done it the last two years. Guess after 6 or 7 years, that kid finally graduated!

I will say that this year at one of our Region III play off games, our opponent's (which I will fail to mention) "Good Friendship League" handed our GFL a 'gift' of a bagful of empty candy wrappers at mid field before the game. Their athletic trainer's corp did the same, only with open, bitten-into-candy, like Snicker's bar.
When our trainer's allowed the kids to choose how to respond, the kids declined to retaliate.
I would rather be remembered for that.

what you are refering to was back in 2003 when the Coppell Silver Spurs ran their flag through our Drill Team lines (where the playres run through). So about ten minutes later, our crew did the same thing to them. Dr. Presley suspended the crew for almost the entire game, not sure what happened to the Coppell people.

The Garland/Highland Park rivalry goes all the way back to the 40's, or before, and it was a true battle of 2 team who hate each other. It was a true battle of the "haves vs. the have nots", "country vs. city", "rich city snobs vs. a bunch of farmers". They despised each other for what each one represented to each other.
For Garland, HP represented everything about humans they didn't want to become, yet were jealous of all the financial blessings bestowed upon them, yet were glad they hadn't become the type of snobs all that money had changed them into.
For HP, Garland represented where they had come from, at some point, and where they didn't want to ever go back to again. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and the HP folks hated Garland "absolutely" for what they represented and for the fact that the Garland folk didn't show outwardly that they had any desire to be as rich as the HP folks were. The Garland "distain" for HP's "elite" status only enraged the HP faithful even more.
Garland and HP hadn't played since about 1987, so in the 1999 opener, the season Garland won state, HP and Garland played at Highlander. HP had won a hard fought battle at Williams Sta. the year before and this was the other end of a home-and-home series. It would prove to be the only loss in a wonderful season for the Owls.
Now for the diss. The set-up was so you would more easily understand how insulting the diss was to Garland, because these kids at HP had to be told by some older folks about the history of the rivalry so these slogans would bring out the most anger in the older Garland fans who also remember the "old days".
There were two banners taped to the front of the stands on the HP side that faced the Garland grandstands. One said "CASH BEATS TRASH", and the other said, "YOUR MOMMAS CLEAN OUR HOUSES".
Yes, they are funny now, but at the time.........the HP faithful should have been glad that there was a fence between us.....if you know what I mean.:D

I said DISmisSED because only 2 teams don't lose in the playoffs and although the other 94 don't always lose when people say they will lose, they do lose in the end and some of what gets said before then comes to pass. I really don't worry about being dissed because all that talk stops if you win games. Nobody talks about how lousy Judson was this year because they got to the title game. Hey, we're all wrong from time to time about games.

Anyone that loses to Eisenhower is always dissed. There band, drill team, pep squad, cheerleaders and fans start singing "Eagles to the dome, (whoever they beat) go home." Never fails. Right after the school songs are played you can bet without a doubt they will start into it and will sing it until the other team leaves or the band is walking out of the stadium. That is why it is great to beat them, and give them a little taste of their own medicine.

During the 2004 season when SLC played Grapevine at home I saw some SLC kids with T-shirts that said, "I used to live in Grapevine, but my dad got a real job and we moved to Southlake."
During this past 2005 season when we played Colleyville I saw C'ville kids with t-shirts that said.."Your daddy can't buy this game."
I understand that Grapevine vandalized the Carroll Sr. High School campus this past year the night before the SLC / Grapevine game. I am not sure of the details...maybe someone else can elaborate...but I heard they spray painted some buildings.

This is a real old story and would be difficult to replicate in this day and age, but back when I played ball in the 60s my high school was the "Green Dragons" (not SLC, but a small school in the Carolinas). Our rival 9 miles away was the Blue Eagles. The night before the big game a group of guys from my school broke into the Blue Eagles Field house and they dyed their white game pants bright Green. By the time it was discovered there was nothing that could be done and they still talk to this day of the game where the Blue Eagles played in green pants. Color pictures were actually used in the newspaper (which weren't done a lot back then).

true but we didn't do this on purpose... we were in our helmet and it was real quiet as if everyone was waiting for us to come out. we did and when we ran out we heard the alma mater playing and we were like "uh oh". the air compressor muffled the sound. you are right about that sad night though even though we were missing our QB, our two best linebackers and our best safety!

they still would have been some help at least... no offense to Tate or anything but he was starting his first game in who knows how long and hadn't known the offense as long as Joe has or knew it to the extent that Joe knew it. I would have rather Joe started that game because it was Joe's last crack at Trinity and also he was more experienced and was really disappointed to miss out on that game. As for the linebackers and safeties, cases could be made for those 3 were the best 3 defensive players on our team. Scotty Gilchrist was all area, Daniel Longo was 2nd team all district and Jeremie Blackwell was also 2nd team all district and was a run stuffing, extremely talented safety. All 3 of them would have been a great help into stopping the two headed monster running game Trinity had. We may not have won, but it would have been a better game.
