View Full Version : My Thoughts on the 4 major ET Teams
LP-79

I am bored at work this evening so bear with me on this. I got to looking at the schedules for this coming year for John Tyler, Tyler Lee, Longview, and Lufkin. I thought I would prognosticate on how I feel they will do in them. There is no scientific basis for the picks. Just knowing the teams like I do and looking at what each have coming back. I would be interested in some other peoples opinions based on anything but homerism! ( bigred&cujo)
JOHN Tyler
1. Texas High - revenge is sweet! CUJO will win big.
2. Lufkin - played LP close last year. I look for another close game with Lufkin edging out in last few minutes.
3. Arlington Lamar - JT win
4. WF Rider - JT win
5. Lewisville- This was a tossup to me but I will pick JT
6. Mes. Horn - JT win
7. Mesquite - JT lose in a squeaker
8. North Mesquite - JT win but hard fought game
9. Tyler Lee- UPSET JT wins big!!!
10 DeSoto - let down from previous game against a top team causes JT to lose big!
So I pick John Tyler to have a 7-3 record next year.
Tyler Lee
1. Lufkin - at Abe. Outlaw pwns Owens Lufkin wins but a close game.
2. Longview - not even close. Longview wins
3. Dallas Kimball - Big easy win for Lee
4. Abilene - controversial game! Abilene wins
5. FM Marcus - easy win for Lee
6. Mesquite - tossup to me Lee wins
7. DeSoto - hands Lee its worst lose of season
8. Mes. Horn - Lee wins
9. John Tyler - Lee loses fans upset by this call for Owens resignation!! Just kidding
10. North Mesquite - Lee wins
I pick Tyler Lee to finish 5 - 5
Lufkin
1. Tyler Lee - win
2. John Tyler - win
3. Nacogdoches - win
4. Longview - at Abe, slober knocker. Longview squeaks by with last second field goal
5. Mesquite - wrong time to play LP. Big win for Lufkin
6. New Caney - win
7. Conroe - payback win
8. TW College Park - close close game LP loses
9. Woodlands - Lufkin wins
10. Conroe Oak Ridge - Lufin wins
I pick Lufkin to go 8-2
Longview
1. Allen - at Longview, hard to beat Longview and the REfs.
2. Tyler Lee - Longview wins
3. Nat. Central - Longview dominates
4. Lufkin - win
5. Texas High - win
6. Sulphur Springs - win
7. Mt. Pleasant - sorry Lonnie Longview wins
8. Marshall - rivalry game - Longview wins but close
9. Hallsville - win
10. Pine Tree - win
I pick Longview to go 10 - 0 then wind up 16-0 as much as I hate to say that.

That is a laugher! You obviously have never been to a game at Lobo stadium. Get ready to boo the refs a lot and get wet from sprinklers that only spray on visitors side while getting pelted by ice from the rowdy student section. Longview will win.

What are the reasons you feel CP has an advantage over Lufkin? I know the Cavaliers may be improved this year but the Pack will be loaded for bear in 2009.

really just the inconsistent play I have seen on offensive side of ball last couple years. Plus it seems like College Park looks at Lufkin as their Super Bowl.

Have you ever seen Allen play?
Or when they beat Longview by 2 TDs?
Make sure you remember that their defense will be even better than they were last season.....
and BOTH of their quarterbacks will be seniors........
I want to go to Longview and laugh at them SOO bad.... but college awaits

It will be first game of year for both teams. You think Allen wins, I think Longview wins. No where did I say by 3 or 4 TD's I figure it to be a close hard fought game with a 3 or 4 point margin of victory. After game no matter how it goes I gauruntee all the Allen fans will be pissing and moaning about the refs!

Concerning the inconsistency you speak about, their eligibility has run out. There is new blood and leadership coming aboard for this '09 team.;)

Ha at that one. It was close last year in Tyler and Marcus was without a few starters that game. THis year Marcus gets Lee at home and I dont know how you are getting at an easy win for Lee.
I also think JT beats Lewisville in Tyler and probably will by a few TD's.

Marcus pretty good against the run, in fact they are very good against the run. Daniel Noble one of best DT's in the entire state. Marcus have more weapons at RB than Lee does and Hopkins a better back than Brown. I think Marcus will win this one by the tune of 28-14

 man are you ill !!!!!! i c that you have never seen lee play or definately not seen dada brown:eek:. he is alot better than hopkin!! speed wise footwork and especially hands. hopkins cant catch!!!plus he (HOPKINS) had an experienced o-lines last yr. see how he does this yr. but hokins is a good back but dada may be the best in the state!!! i dont know what the hell you are talkin about. he got his yards (dada brown) playing against the best defenses all yr just about. he showed up to in nearly all of them. a couple he was hurt. man you really need to see this dood. i cant believe you make such comments and lee has a very good backfield. how can you say marcus has more weopons is just ludacris ! PLUS THE LEE\MARCUS GAME WASNT REALLY CLOSE LAST YR. LEE WENT UP EARLY 21-3 AND HELD ON 21-13 TO WIN BY 8 BUT MARCUS NEVER THREATEN THE LEAD. PLUS ONLY HAD ONE GOOD DRIVE. OH YEA AND DADA BROWN ROLLED THAT NIGHT , PLUS HAD A 75 YRD TD RUN . MAN JUST CHANGE THE SUBJECT TO SOMETHING U R BETTER @

Should be a good game either way as Dave Campbells preseason had Longview #1 4A and Allen #1 5A.
I do know what you're saying though as not the first Allen game in Longview. Do recall going home the loser in a game we won every where but on the scoreboard there thanks to the zebra's. Of course now that you identified it, I guess the win will be that much sweeter. :D:p

NACOGDOCHES: LUFKIN 0-2 START HAS JOHN OUTLAW CALLING A TEAM MEETING AND LUFKIN ANSWERS THE BELL. LUFKIN WINS BY 24
LONGVIEW:AFTER 1-2 STARTS FOR BOTH TEAMS. SOMEBODY HAS TO FALL ANOUTHER GAME UNDER 500. LONGVIEW WINS

SEASON REVIEW
TEXAS HIGH: JT on the road comes out charged and takes command in a game they were called underdogs. fans leave with raised eyebrows saying "Bring on the pack"!!! cujo wins with a lil fashion
LUFKIN: east texas classic time and on this friday night jt chants CUUUUUUUUJO! CUUUUUUJOO! CUUUUUUUUJO!!!!! john tyler wins by a surprising margin
WF RIDER: even after a long road game,jt still comes to play. jt win
LEWISVILLE: DEJA VU!! last season was a good one between these 2. same outcome but no ot. cuuujoooo!!!
ARLINGTON LAMAR: cujo rolls
MESQUITE HORN: big win
MESQUITE: LIONS REMAIN UNDEFEATED AND HOT @ 7-0!!!
NORTH MESQUITE:lions get a good home win
TYLER LEE: great played game by teams ,but jt comes up short 35-30 and getting knocked out of the 3 way tie for first place
DESOTO: jt drops anouther one in a tough district battle 21-16
BRC'S FINAL ANALYSIS: starting off 8-0 and dropping the final 2 @ the end the regular season 8-2 was not what the lions envisioned, but also not worried about. going into the playoffs cujo is still syched. cruisin thru the first round,jt knocks off a determined opponent in the second rd to get the sweet win that slipped from them a yr earlier but against a different foe.3rd RDand the cujo playoff spirit back alive and fans jumping, john tyler squeaks by a tough foe with the foot of sr kicker jessie diaz. on to the 4th round a match up that has vever happened before this time of yr. a hyped cruisade! as the rematch with thier bitter cross-town rival tyler lee. lions play hard but mistakes early cost them late and thier season ends in defeat 28-14. cujo pride is back as lions finish a wonderful season 11-3

Dang man take your helmet off and get off the short bus. Only thing keeping DaDa from being a very good back is the buck 70 he weighs. As it is he is just a ordinary 5A running back. Even Smoaky and there are no bigger Tyler Lee homers than him does not have him as one of the top rated Runningbacks in East Texas. By the way I call B.S. on the 4.38 forty. What was that the texas Longhorn coach said when they came and timed Derek Farmer in the 40. Asked him for a 4.5 after it was posted he could run a sub 4.4. He got a 4.65 and The coach said " DAMN YOU MUST RUN A 30 YARD SPRINT IN EAST TEXAS" Mark my words BigRed and look back. I have been way more accurate on my predictions concerning Tyler Lee the last 2 years than you ever have. Tyler Lee at least will not have to send buses to Dallas Kimball this year to get their first win.

shoot yea that 4.38 is bs!! hell i think he may be faster!!! whats b.s is you thinkin smoaky doesnt have dada as one of the top backs in east texas you need to kill that bull you bringin. smoaky is big on dada. that buck 70 is a tough and slippery joker to bring down.
Yeah he is big on DaDa. He just does not have him as one of the top 4 RB's in east Texas. DaDa is one of them guys you here about and talk about. If you get my meaning he has Leonard Hewitt wrote all over him. Very good high school runningback never to be heard of on the sporting scene after that. See Rapture I work where I can see more and hear more about the sporting scene around East texas than most people. I try to look at things objectively. Really and truly I root for Lufkin but I take the Homer glasses off when discussing them. As you can see I have Lufkin supporters disagreeing with some things I have said.

He's unfortunately too small to go big school, but I can see him playing at TJC with Jeff Claybon. Two years and move on to being a non-athlete because he is too small, but not for HS.

Um, Allen has never played Longview in Longview. Good try, though.
And I see Fav is still bitter about losing in LView. ;) Apparently those losses hit really close to the heart with the Lufkin fans, coaches, etc. I mean, the only time I've seen people blame officials more is Waco Midway or Longview fans. And I don't recall any just flat out bad calls, much less that influence the game in a huge way. Not like being called for holding after getting 2 first downs, both of which would have ended the game. Not to mention, both calls were questionable at BEST (especially when you look at how they had let holding go on both sides all night). And then letting a horrible pass interference go to allow an interception.
But I saw LP fans claiming Longview was inner city ghetto, clamoring about what people were saying, getting butthurt over the fans rushing the field (which they did against Evangel in 02 and Lee in 04, just FYI... You're not special), and other things. I mean, my friend had a drink poured on her at the 07 game in Lufkin as we left through the tunnel and I heard plenty of stuff around females and kids that I wouldn't dream of saying... But I guess every team has fans like that.
And the cheerleaders wouldn't sell me a program at the Cy Ridge game at Kyle Field this past year because I was wearing Lobo gear. :( I think that there was more to that loss than I'm seeing, because Lufkin fans REALLY resented us for it.

Hmm. I dunno. I didn't rush the field, FYI (my friend and I had to jet out to get back to CS haha... in 02 against Evangel I bolted out of there to beat traffic, and in 04 against Lee I was playing), but I don't see what is wrong with it. I mean, colleges do it all the time after big wins. I know most (if not all) Longview fans consider Lufkin a HUGE rival. And after 12 straight beatings, ANY win over them is worth celebrating. Not to mention they're a good team year in and year out. Think of it as us respecting Lufkin to the point that beating them is something to celebrate. And to come back and win in triple overtime is huge as well. I mean, there have been like 7 games in Longview history that have gone to any OT, two that went to double, and only one that went to triple: the Lufkin game. It's exciting and harmless. It's not like they tore down goalposts and whatnot. I dunno, I'll agree to disagree on the rushing the field issue.
Now, the ice throwing at the drill team and whatnot, I definitely don't condone, and THAT makes me embarrassed to be in the same fanbase as those idiots.

All these other 5A teams dog Allen for playing a 4A team. I'm sure that most of the people "in the know" are aware of how dangerous Longview will be this year AND are grateful that the Lobos are NOT on their schedule, be they 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, or Middle School. Longview will be a difficult challenge, but they will be a great obsticle to try and overcome. I think it will be a great game!

 man are you ill !!!!!! i c that you have never seen lee play or definately not seen dada brown:eek:. he is alot better than hopkin!! speed wise footwork and especially hands. hopkins cant catch!!!plus he (HOPKINS) had an experienced o-lines last yr. see how he does this yr. but hokins is a good back but dada may be the best in the state!!! i dont know what the hell you are talkin about. he got his yards (dada brown) playing against the best defenses all yr just about. he showed up to in nearly all of them. a couple he was hurt. man you really need to see this dood. i cant believe you make such comments and lee has a very good backfield. how can you say marcus has more weopons is just ludacris !
Da Da had an excellent game last year against Marcus but lets compare the 2 running backs: according to rivals.com
Stephen Hopkins 6' 220 runs a 4.52 three star ranking committed to Michigan
Da Da Brown 5'8" 165 runs a 4.50 no stars and no commitment.
At least the recruiting specialists think Hopkins is the better player.

I think that both Hopkins and Da Da have good things about them and have some things that make them college type football players
I've seen Hopkins on film and he to me is more a game breaker he reminds me of Beanie Wells of OSU he's big, strong, and has good speed for his size. I think that at college level he will get a better chance to be an all-time RB because of his size and speed.
Athleticism A
Size A+
Speed A-
Elusiveness A-
Overall A
Now Da Da Brown is like Jacquizz Rogers from Oregon State he has some good speed, elusive, athletic, and has some decent hands. He might be able to play some Wr and play running back get about 15-20 carries a game and slip him out on some screens. He also can maybe play DB in college.
Athleticism A
Size A-
Speed A
Elusiveness A+
Overall A
Both have there good points and there bad points. But again I think there both good and will in my opinion make some good college RB's.

I'd dog Allen for playing the Mexico team before playing Longview. Longview went 2-1 against 5A teams this year, and their only losses came to the teams that finished #2 and #3 in the nation.
I can't wait to play Allen; Longview vs Allen games are always good. In 01 we met at Texas Stadium and it was a barnburner.

Not sure where you're getting that. Longview and Allen have played three times previously, and for the first time in the regular season last year.
1996, Longview dominated Allen 48-14 in the Area Round.
2001, Allen knocked off Longview 20-17 in the Area Round.
Then last season.
Every single game has been played in the metroplex.
getting butthurt over the fans rushing the field (which they did against Evangel in 02 and Lee in 04, just FYI... You're not special), and other things
I honestly don't get why people got so upset after that. Our fans have always rushed the field after a big, dramatic win.
Evangel was No. 2 in the country when we did it in 02.
We won our first district title in 7 years with the overtime win against Lee in 04.
And we had just won the longest game in our history with the win against Lufkin in 08.
Dramatic wins = dramatic celebrations.

1st, Pine Tree is the last game of the season just for a heads up.
2nd, if Longview loses to Tyler Lee...well...we will lose to Lufkin as well and we won't be winning a State Championship.
Longview hasn't won at Abe since 1998. We had a victory wrapped up in 07 and handed it over to Lp when it mattered the most (no matter the stories I've heard about refs and extra stuff).
I honestly expect Hallsville to give us a run for our money. I don't know why, but I am quickly seeing them become a 2nd Marshall type rivalry for us. Definitely think them being less than 10 minutes away helps that.

1. Longview Nothing but a State championship will be acceptable
2. John Tyler. They have to be ranked here on returning players. Losing their offensive coach may hurt them.
3a. Lufkin. To many questions early
3b. Tyler Lee. to many questions early. Will DaDa run wild this year?

IF DaDa actually could run a 4.38 he would be standing on the podium in Austin as the winner of the 100. There is no BS you can spout that will change that fact. BIGRED you need to start being factual. None of the East Texas crap. No hand time 40's. Get me a electronic 40 time on DaDa. Every recuiting site I have looked at has him at 4.5 to 4.6. I got more info on him than you will ever have my friend. Grades and attitude will play a bigger role on what he does after High school than any GOD given talent he has.
i agree on the grade thing. he has had offers slide by because of that. hopefully he gets on track enough to get to a good d-1 university.as for the times , i have seen him run. i cant argue what u saw on anouther site with computer times or what, but i know for a fact that if he breaks open field aint nothing catchin him. so i see 4.3 on that field and believe it. but i want argue what no site got cause i havnt timed him. but i believe the 4.3 time cause thats what he looks like

I got you so upset you are typing worse than you ussually do. My God man grow a pair here. Man up! Just to double check on DaDa. He has not recieved any offers yet. All the services have him as a JUCO or Div.II right now because of his size. All have him at excellent speed. Only problem is just in East Texas there are 7 runningbacks just as fast as DaDa. They are bigger and stronger or have the body frame to bulk up and not lose any speed. Only real knock I have seen about him. Undersized is OK in High School but will get you squat in a Div. I school.

Bigred just to satisfy myself I did extra checking on DaDa. He is on the Rivals site but is not ranked. They have his forty time as 4.5.
I then checked another site and they have him graded out as a 74 which is about average on runningbacks. Here are comments left by the scout.
Expect recruiting to pick up on this guy. Despite his marginal size and the fact that he does look even lighter on film, Brown has too much foot-quickness and initial speed for a spread offense, at least at the mid-major level, not to take notice. Excels when getting the ball in space out of the gun and in the screen and draw game. Reaches top speed very quickly and excels at picking and sliding his way through the initial traffic and small creases. Flashes quick, very light feet sidestepping defenders through the hole. Shows great stop-start and jump-cut skill; not a real explosive or powerful guy but very elusive and slippery to wrap up in space and even in-line. Runs with very good body control. Can see the small cutback creases open quickly and shows some downhill burst and decisiveness slicing through into the second level. While he will keep his legs churning on contact and shows a bit of feistiness for a scat-back type runner, he will struggle to break consistent tackles at the next level and earn good yards after contact. Very narrow base and lean overall body makes durability and power a concern. Looks a bit quicker than fast and does not possess great top-end speed or an explosive extra gear to pull way in the second level. Brown does have polished hands and receiving skills out of the backfield and we feel if he could land in an open spread offense that utilizes his great quickness as a "space player", he could contribute. Key to recruitment may be his physical development over the next year and continued multi-purpose production as a senior.

Da Da is not in the same league as Hewitt. Leaonard could have picked any school he wanted in the country Florida was all over him and his knee would have been fine with time and proper rehab but Leonard couldnt get qualified by that I mean passing the Taaks test.
Sorry LP-79 DaDa wont be heard of because more then likely he will go Juco or somewhere in the southland conference. Hewitt just didnt pass a stupid F'n test that shouldnt determine if you graduate or not.

If I recall at the Cy Ridege game that one of your Lufkin buddies ;) recognized you at half time and was like whats up LOL. See we are not all bad. Really wasnt hard to recognize you walkin around in Longview sweats LOL.

LOL ok Hewitt was a the #4 Ranked FS in the class of 2006 and was a 4star player and that is 4 more stars the Da Da Brown has right now. Hewitt led the state in INTS his Jr season Da Da Brown didnt even lead his own district in rushing.
Now I have seen Da Da play once against Lufkin and he can make you hold your breate sometimes when he slips and slides his way threw but he ended up with like 40 rushing yards if that with half of them coming on his first carry. He is more quick then top end fast. Im sure he does ran a hand held 4.3 40 but electronically proly not. Now Reggie McNeal ran a legit 4.35 and Brown is no where near that elusive nor as fast as McNeal in HS.
To Browns credit he can catch the ball and do things out the backfield and I would love to have him lining up in our backfield next season in all Purple but thats not gonna happen.

I agree DaDa was a non-factor in the second half against Lufkin last year, but we didn't even run the same offense scheme the second half, can't blame DaDa for that. We really weren't even out played, just a little unlucky and a few poor coaching decisions. Wouldn't even go as far as saying we were out coached. Just a few bad decisions and some really good luck for Lufkin on a few hail Mary passes that was completed on our defensive backs in the 2nd half! That is the way it goes and congrats to Lufkin on a big win, and I can't wait until we visit old Abe this year! Just like the old days, should be fun.
As far as DaDa goes: DaDa is a solid 4.5 runner; He is good RB and can be great at the high school level. He needs to gain about 20 pounds to be a tough contact runner (bruiser or banger) in a D1 College, but I am not saying he can't have a great career at the next level. When I say tough contact runner I don't mean the ability to take a hit I mean break big hits for additional yardage, he can definitely take big hits. Also, I really don't know what he is weighing in at right now, but I would guess around 188 on the top end, currently. I expect greatness from him this year.

Wow, the ignorance on this board never seizes to amaze....just wow.... seriously....wow....a first round "lost"...the public school systems have failed us miserably. I shouldn't have even dignified this foolishness with a response so I guess the joke is indeed on me...
So, let me get this straight. Kendall Hunter wasn't a great back in High School, he just turned great once he got to college, in a big time conference and the competition got exponentially better?? Well, I guess coaching can work miracles lol. Wait, I think I got it. Just maybe, the 11-5a defenses he faced were alot tougher than the Big 12 South defenses which he torches every Saturday? Well, here's hoping that DaDa has a "great switch" he can turn on too, once he gets to SFA or Blinn Juco lol.
To gain 1200yds on a 4-6 team is a feat in itself. Stats can lie, highlights don't. Anyone that ever seen Hunter play would tell you he was indeed a GREAT back.

Anyone that ever seen Hunter play would tell you he was indeed a GREAT back.he was ag good high back but he is no better than dada! dada hasnt got to college yet so you cant say what he will do and want do compared to kendell, but when it comes to highschoo career. dada has already just about surpassed everything kendall did. plus hunter had a horrible senior year. when it came to stats. he was good, dont get me wrong. youm just cant argue him as a great highschool back if you cant argue dada as one.just the truth

I have to give the nod to Brown when comparing he and Hunter on the HS level. Brown has had a much more productive career as he should. Brown has started more games and has played in the same offensive direction his entire varsity experience. If you can't get the numbers up doing the same thing year after year then you are no good. If I can, I have to give Hunter props for hanging tough through all the misfortunes so I could have opportunities to watch him play.

Im going to go ahead and settle this now and its really stupid that it has reached this far. Kendall Hunter is going to become a first round draft picks after next season he is in the f'n heisman discussion. Tho Kendall Hunter played on a worse HS team st the time then Da Da doesnt mean Brown is better. Browm will be lucky to make the Southland conference and has 0 chance of the NFL. How far has Brown taken Tyler Lee in the okayoffs couldnt have been that far. Damn Brown is good but to even suggest he is better then Hunter is just ignorant. Now TY was a monster for Lee all the love in the world for that boy he was a really great HS back 10 times better then Brown but didnt have enough at the college level I think he at SFA now ima try and go check that out.
Tally and McGee were the monsters in the LV era Tally and Lufkin had Manns and Lane. Pretty good backs out of east Texas when you think about it the past decade or so. For JT throw Garmon in there he was aight they proly should have won state Julian Norman proly did the most with less in his time in the early 2000's.

LMAO you right I seen Brown once and the only game I saw was our LB's and Big J Mac feeding Da Da the business BTW how many yards sis the super star get that game not many.
Look Brown will never get a chance to evenplay on the Div 1 level so when he gets Juco or NAIA we still cant compare stats. Hunter never won a playoff game but how many has da da won and he has been on better teams. You ride Da Da nuts like he done somethin if anybody deserves somethin it should Tyron Ross he actuallyed backed it up when he played (Tho TY still didnt break 100 on us my SR season but Lee did when state but we did give them the business though at abe)
Basically quit sounding stupid by sayin Brown is this and that he aint half the back TY and want do anything bigger then what TY did in college. As far as Hunter goes he is a heisman candidate so STFU could care less if he didnt do **** at JT but make snow cones some Div 1 team recognized him and um cant say the same for Da Da.

for yo info dada had over 150 yards all-purpose on yalls sorry defense. plus why you say TY didnt break 100 yo sr. yr. hell he broke 200 on yall his sohpmore year. plus dada has won 2 playoff games plua he has highlght plays every games. break multiple 20,30,40,50 and 60 yrs runs every year.he is right up there with ross and farmer. yall had a beak close to what dada can do. not evens manns or big boy yall had 5yrs ago. bra if you are gonna argue with me , have some real arguments and statments. you and said nothin that backs up what you say about dada or lufkin defense. ross hrt yall everytime he played you and you talkin about 04. he what about all the other games . plus he still had 2 td's in 04. dada clowned lufkin last season IMO and will kill ruin them this season

LMAO you ticklin my belley and smokin on that rock boy. First off if Da Da had 150 all purpose yards then he had to be including his kick return yards cause the boy only rushed for 40 yards and caught the ball for what 40 yards. Da Da was a non facotor and if our defense was sorry well you O-Line must have really sucked cause they gave up 5 sacks LMAO and you didnt score in the 2nd half while Trimble had a field day like back in 5th grade. Russell Shepheard had 311 yards rushing on us last seaon no tellin what his all purpose was well over 450. Now you still think Da Da did somethin to the Lufkin defense
On Ty yeah he was a beast and as a sophmore he ended up with 189 on us in an OT game that was for the ages but lets take a look at the bigger picture of TY. as a Freshman against Lufkin Lee was shut out and he and Smith maybe both combine for 4 or 5 yards rushin (Jk) but TY sucked it up as a freshman against us. His sophmore year yeah he did his thang. Jr season Lufkin and Lee split but it wasnt because of TY Lufkin dominated the 1st game and Pettigre bailed ya *** out in the 2nd game, but TY didnt do **** everythin yall got was cause Pettigrew was a grown man. And finally my favorite my Sr season vs TY his sr season at abe and yeah he scored twice but didnt break 100 Lane finished that game with close to 200 yards rushin and last thing I remeber was draggin your LB's every damn play en route to a Lufkin win. Now congrats cause Ty got you state but Da Da aint done a damn thing. BTW Vondrell McGee was better then TY he had 192 on us my sr season just an absolute monster. Best thing to happen to Tyler Lee was that Lufkin and LV and SLC all were D2 that season. Thats the truth.
And goodluck next season at Abe cause I think your Red Raiders and Da Da are gonna need it when you see Thomas-Kelly.

Gonna bump this back up to talk about offense Tyler Lee will be running next year. I don't care what everybody is saying Luke Wagner will be the starting QB this year. His job will be to hand the ball off to DaDa Brown or Chris Dinkins. Or throw a screen or bubble pass. That is all his job will be. DaDa's job will be to use his quickness to hit holes fast, or avoid first tackles to get yardage. Chris Dinkins will be the key to this "Wildcat" offense. Either from direct snaps or handoffs he will use his speed to hit the corners and head upfield. Once defenses start stacking the line to stop him he will pull up and throw a downfield pass. I can see it now 7 in the box he runs. 8 in the box he passes. I am not sure how Luke Wagner will react to his diminished roll but in my opinion he was to easy to get mentally shook up last year leading to a bunch on int's. DaDa will still get his carries but I see him used more this year on screen passes. Get him the ball in space where he is more effective. Tyler Lee's success this year will depend on Chris Dinkins. How he does so does Tyler Lee. Right now I am still sticking to my prediction. A 5-5 season or at best a 6-4 season. It damn sure will not be a 16-0 State champions season.

dog i can see how u come up with that opinion about wagner being the starting qb. he has the most experience, but owens has said that the QB position is not decided yet. that leave dinkins a chance to be the startin QB sooner or later. i dont dinkins will start out the season either because of wagner's experience, although i think you are wrong about dinkins only passing when the line is loaded. he wouldnt get moved to qb if he was one demintional dog. he will run the wildcat for sure but with the recievers we have defenses will get beat no matter what defense they are in.

LP, unfortunatly I tend to agree with your opinion. Lee has got to become more diverse offensivly, and that has to start at the qb position. With a qb like either of the Hill brothers I truly believe DaDa and Dinkins could have unbelivable years. Lee had an outstanding defense last year that WAS the reason they made it to the 2nd round where a very good Garland team stopped their one dimensional offense. My point is if the offense cannot take some of the pressure off this years defense your prediction of 5-5 or 6-4 could be dead on.

Looking at Region 2 analysis from the KT's it looks like they see it pretty much like I do.Except they have Lufkin slight favorites over John Tyler. I think this is more from reputation and coaching than with returning players. Whatever the differences they still have Tyler Lee sucking hind teat but that could be a motivator for the boys in Red. I still believe this is year "CUJO" roars back to life. They probably will not win all their games but whoever they play will know after the game that it was on hell of a fight.

These doods are up there because of their yds. The competition didnt decide in this one. I think the fm marcus back should be a first team back. Dada had over 1300 yds last yr vs good defenses plus some games he was takin out at halftime or 3rd qtr. Im not really knockin the player nor do i want to. Those doods deserve to be where there at and earned it. Im just gonna let them play and have fun and be safe. Im not hatin none of these players.all are just gonna have to prove themselves.oh and lp! Tyler Lee has one season that they have more than 10 wins since 1958.

Rapture I am not worried in the least. You gotta remember Tyler Lee was a lot like Lufkin last year. They both had inept offenses and great defenses. The only difference I see this year is Lufkins defense will still be very good. Tyler Lees is good. Lee is changing their offense to try and spread the defenses a little more. Lufkin has 2 QBs that can run their system that has been in place since their junior high days. Reason I am giving them the advantage over Lee. No homer pick at all. I try to look at whole picture not just 1 or 2 players. Take off the rose colored glasses, step back and look at everything. First game of year. A new offense for Lee. Not saying they will not be good. But it takes time in game situations to get everything right. I think most people on here are in agreement with me on how the teams will be ranked this year. Longview is the best right now. Anything can happen under the lights but you coming on here saying Tyler Lee is going to just beat up on Longview shows how big a HOMER you are Mr. 16-0 State Champs. oh so nothing has changed huh ? how about that lee has won a state title while longview hasnt? what about the fact that lee beat longview 5 tmes in a row from 98-2003 ? what about the fact that lee is 2-3 against ranked #1 teams ? what about the fact that lee has not lost in the first round since 1993 ? can you say the same for longview on all of that ? no!!!!
And what happened right after Lee won that State Title? They go right back to what they were before 04.
And honestly...you're bragging a 2-3 record. I'm not even going to go there on that one.
You can brag about not losing in the first round all you want...but you also missed the playoffs four of those years. 3, 3 win seasons at that. If you wanted to combine the last 3 win seasons Longview has had, you would have to go all the way back to 1963 to get the 3rd. You accomplished that goal just in the 90s.
the years where longview didnt get mo0re than 10 wins, they got less than 10, so you can kill that crap.
..................I see the Tyler ISD has taught you well. You can count!! Longview has had a 10 win season in 4 of the past 5 seasons...and the one we weren't able to get 10 in, we won 9. 56 wins for Longview in those 5 years...compared to 37 for Lee.
Sure we don't have the State Title yet. But if you want to continue to hang onto 2004, be my guest. Last season is last season. We weren't suppose to win last year and we didn't. We got beat by the best team in all of Texas and I have no shame in that. Our entire team is coming back and undoubtedly will knock Lee silly like they have done the past 6 times we've faced. And then again, you will go missing like you did last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

Longview has 1 State Championship
2 State Finalists
2 State Semi Finalist
5 State Quarterfinalist
18 Bi-District Championships
31 District Championships
and 34 Playoff Appearances.

Lee won a state title due to having a cupcake playoff road. Had you had to play Lufkin, SLC, Smithson Valley as was in the way of Longview, you'd still be as irrelevant as always. Not to mention that in 2004 Longview, you know, beat Lee. It's funny how in Lee's BEST year, they can't beat Longview.
And it was 98- the first half of 02. And since then, Longview is 7-1 against Lee.
Longview is not 5A, they are 4A. You keep calling us 5A, but the UIL (the governing body that makes a difference, not a whiney message board fan llike yourself) says we're 4A. Lake Travis was voted the #3 team in the nation behind only #2 in Allen. No 5A team would have won state in 4A unless they were Allen. Well, they might have won if they had the easy playoff road that Sulphur Springs had... But you know all about that from 04, huh?

Hey, now. He says that Garland would have killed Longview, so that's how it is! Never mind the fact that they lost to Stony Point 38-6. That's right, the same Stony Point who couldn't get by Waco. He claims Stony Point was one of the best teams in the state. I guess it's too bad they couldn't beat a 4A team.

Uh, they didn't have to play Carter, Midway, Guyer, or Lake Travis. THeir toughest opponent was Everman (who was good, I'll say that). But if they played the #3 team in the nation in Lake Travis, they'd have lost. Hell, I think Midway would have beaten them. I'm not jealous of SS in the least. We slaughtered them in the regular season (although to you a 21-0 victory is a very close game, so you might think we squeaked by them in the regular season). I love how you throw out claims that you can't back up at all. We wouldn't have beaten them in the playoffs? I have the fact that we had already beaten them to lean on. All you have is a biased opinion that means jack to anyone who matters here after you've made a fool of yourself over and over.
and lee did beat longview in o3. get yo lies straight man come on!
Show me where I said Lee didn't beat Longview in 03. You said you had a 5 game winning streak from 1998-2003. But the winning streak was from 1998-2002. And since that 2002 loss, we've gone 7-1 against Lee, the only loss coming in 03.
i dodnt care what longview is on paper. they had 5a numbers last yr and still have it this yr. yall are 5a in 4a.just called 4a, because u r in 4a:rolleyes:.
Well, then I guess it's a good thing the UIL is what matters and not you!
plus it dont matter who lee lost to in the regular season of 04. who beat them in they playoffs? nobody!!!!!
We've been over this. Lee didn't have to play anyone worth a damn in the playoffs that year. Had they been in Division II with Lufkin, SLC, Denton Ryan, Katy, Smithson Valley, Abilene, and Longview, they wouldn't have made it anywhere. Heck, they had already lost to Longview and Lufkin in the yearr before! But according to you, teams can just all of a sudden magically beat a team in the playoffs who had embarrassed them in the regular season just because.
lake travis wouldnt of made it to the 3rd round in 5a last season and longview wouldt have made it past the second
That's funny. Paid professional writers had them as the #2 team in the state. I guess that's why they get paid to do it and you don't. ANd LOL @ thinking Longview wouldn't have made it past the second round. We beat Lee 21-0. Garland barely squeaked by 13-10 (and it took Lee missing a FG if I remember correctly). Here again, you make these wild and foolish claims based on NOTHING.

reggie never made lee look bad. lee always shut him down. he only beat lee once as the startin QB and that was his senior when they won state.they beat le 21-0 that yr. even then he was contained, but he got off a bomb for a td and a flea flick pass back to him that he caught for a TD. he was good ,but he never could really play well vs owens. mike owens always had the defense for him. owens was 2-1 vs reggie. OH AND WTHER U LIKE IT OR NOT 99, IM GONNA STAY TASTYAND BIG RED & A HINT OF CUJO!! LMAO!! CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUJOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You act like it's a bad thing to loss in your first state championship game. Again, you even said we weren't ranked. We weren't suppose to be there. Yet we were.
Your coach has still never beaten King. And there's been multiple times where King's coaching has won the game on its own.

Maybe not a Texas #1 sure...but he's beaten multiple Louisiana #1 teams (West Monroe, Evangel in their glory, John Curtis).
And he'll get the chance to win at Abe this season. He's only been there twice.
what about the fact that lee has not lost in the first round since 1993
I went back and looked at what Tyler Lee has done since Owens got there...and well. You must have a short term memory or something..because Lee lost to Skyline in the first round in 2007 to finish that awesome season 5-6.
And really...you're going to compare Owens to King?
Owens has been at Tyler Lee since 1996 (13 seasons).
King who has been at Longview since 2004 (5 seasons).
Owens has a playoff record of 17-10...and two seasons he didn't make the playoffs.
King has a playoff record of 12-5. He's made the playoffs all 5 seasons
Owens only has 3 district titles to his name since becoming head coach.
King has yet to lose a district ball game, much less not win a District title.
Owens has an overall record of 102-54 (.654 winning %).
King has an overall record of 56-10 (.848 winning %)....and that's include a forfeit loss that he actually blew out the team.
Owens has had only 4 seasons where he's recorded at least 10 wins...only one of those seasons had more than 10 itself.
King has had 4 seasons where he has recorded at least 10 wins...only one of those seasons was only 10 wins.
Owens has had 3 seasons that were below the .500 mark, including 2 of their last 4 seasons.
Kings has not had a season where he wasn't at least 6 games over the .500 mark.
The most losses Owens coached to in a single season...7
The most loses King coached to in a single season...3
The most points Owens' teams have scored in a single season was 542 points.
King set a record for his team this season with 613 points.
Owens' longest district winning streak...5 games.
King's longest district winning streak...28 games.
Owens' longest regular season winning streak...9 games.
King's longest district winning streak...22 games.
And the most important stat....head to head...
King has 5 wins over Lee since taking over.
Owens has 0 wins over Longview since King took over.

Excuses. Excuses. Excuses.
King was "handed" a team that went 7-4 the year before..and hadn't won a District Championship in 7 years. He completely turned this program around (and I do mean him, not Collins...because King arrived here in 2000 with Collins and was one of the key reasons of turning the program around).
And yawn yawn yawn. King has played Lp 5 times, and beaten them twice.
The 2004 game was a tough game against 2 great teams. Both of those teams beat Lee.
The 2006 game was a complete wash. Lp was picked to win State that season and Longview had lost pretty much everyone from a stout team the season prior. Lufkin was suppose to win and they did. (O God I'm using excuses like br&c)
The first 2007 game is the only game I would question King's coaching when it comes against Lp...They blew the win. Plain and simple. But still...he made up for it 3 weeks later and knocked off Lufkin at home. O and just so you know...Lufkin was ranked 5th going into Lobo Stadium...and left with a loss as Longview ended their 36 game regular season and 26 game non-district winning streaks.
And the 2008 game, well that 3 OT game talks for itself.
And whatever. Tell yourself what you want about Owens and your Red Raiders. The fact is, Lee has done nothing since 2004...and in the program's entire history dating back to 1958...your team has only had 4 real year's of success.
Those 4 years are the ONLY years your program has ever gotten past the 2nd round of the playoffs.

But I wouldn't put the first 2007 loss on King. I'd put it more on the lack of execution by the offense. A few weeks later when they needed to drive to run the clock out, they did, and got a FG out of it. In the first game, they couldn't muster a first down. Well, when they did, it was called back 2 consecutive plays for holding (both flags thrown AFTER the first down achieved, no less). I'd put the 06 Garland, 08 Allen, and first half of the 08 Lee game on him for getting out of the zone of what's working and trying to be fancy, but oh well. Oh, and the 08 Evangel "loss" because he didn't cross all of his t's and dot all of his i's. His big wins more than make up for those losses.

Hey, moron. Before you go accusing our coaching staff and athletic department of intentionally trying to avoid the cutoff for 5A so that we could "finally win state", you should do a little research. Longview petitioned to play up. PLEASE know what you're talking about in the future before embarrassing yourself worse than Lee does every year, K?
And no matter what our numbers, we still humiliated Lee. We may have lost later in the season, Lee may have been a better team, but all of that is hypothetical. Facts are facts, and the fact is that Longview beat Lee for the 6th consecutive time.
And no, LT wasn't #3 in the state; they were #2 according to USAToday (only behind Allen who I'd say isn't much better). And if you think that #1 and #2 are invincible, Allen lost to Trinity 24-14 early on in the year.

win something first then come back and brag about beatin lee and how good yo coach is.
We've won a state title. Thanks for asking, though.
he cant even beat lufkin.
He's 2-3 vs Lufkin. Good try, though. Isn't that a better percentage than Owens has vs LP? LOL! Owens can't beat LP OR King. All he can do is beat a cupcake playoff schedule. How sad.
he finally got a win this year at home against a not the same lufkin.
Uh, he's only played Lufkin 5 times. And he won two of them (which should have been 3).
king is not a great coach. he was givin a good team.
He was given a 7-4 team that had to replace all but 4 of the starters. Do you ever get tired of making statements that are completely untrue? Not to mention: Even IF he was handed a good team, that team didn't hang around for 5 years. Some of it has to do with him, you know, COACHING.
he is not a coach that can make pebbles into steel like mike owens did.
Oh, so I guess going from 7-4 to 12-1 with a district title and undefeated regular season isn't a turnaround, huh?
3-7 first season, playoffs the next. diistrict title game the next and district title champs back to back the next couple years and a state title 4 years lalter.
And since then what has he done? He's had losing seasons, missed the playoffs, been humiliated, only split district (and only because Longview left).
thats a great coach,.
Man, I'm glad we don't have a "great coach", then. You know, one that misses the playoffs, can't beat the other coach we're talking about, has many losing seasons, etc.

He also beat nationally ranked West Monroe (the only blemish on their record that year). fool collins played during the round robin years.plus lufkin was in the same district !, king aint had that type trouble. plus the year you u lost in the first round that you are referring to, yo top players flunked out and couldnt play that game:rolleyes: whoo!!! lies lies lies and misinterpretations by this dood!!!! who!!! plus king lost inthe first round in 05!!!!! man shut up!!! ok?!!! please , you do not have any arguments. everything you have said does not help king and more and can be argued and are just stupid stuff in which king hasnt fared any better.

Excuses. Excuses.
Longview has gone past the 2nd round 4 times this decade. It's taken your program 50 years to reach that.
whine whine whine!!! where is yo 5a state title?? huh? why yo doing loops to win a state title. king just wants to make the fans happy. he knows he can never win in 5a or 4a looks like. he swindled to get you there and blew it!!! LMAO!!!!!!!

Those Lufkin teams aren't the same ones that made it to at least the semis 3 of 4 years in a row. They were decent, yes, but not the powers they were. We beat them in the middle of their 36-game regular-season winning streak.

Lufkin's always been the favorites vs Longview as well under King... Ask ANY East Texan on this forum or others who a better coach/team is and they'll all tell you Longview.
Longview was the favorite last season at home vs Lufkin.

I know we all get a little overboard on protecting our teams traditions. In East texas John Tyler has been one of the most consistent programs over the years. Longview has also been very consistent. Lufkin for years was on the cusp. Some years they had one of the best teams in the State other years they were very average. All that changed When Outlaw arrived. Even though they have not met expectations the past couple years they are still considered one of the ELITE teams in Texas. Tyler Lee was either a mediocre to terrible team for years. After Owens arrived they have won 1 State championship. They are not mediocre anymore. However I do not know of anybody that considers them one of the Elite teams in the State. If they could put a run together of 3 or 4 years getting to at least the quarter finals every year that may change. Right now Longview is the BIG DOG in East Texas. However I fully expect all 4 teams to make some noise in the playoffs. A second round from all 4 should be expected. I would not be suprised if CUJO and the Pack meet 2 times this year. It is getting closer to start of season. BIGRED is going to Ride Owens and DADA to at least second round. CUJO is back and showing their PRIDE. Longview has STATE CHAMPS written on their back. And Lufkin will get their swagger back this year.

Why would King even consider changing places with Owens?
Lee has had the talent there ever since they won the State Title....but each season they've underachieved and disappointed. King has taken Longview with less talent during some seasons (2006) and much much younger talent (2008) to far great accomplishments than Owens has the past 4 years.

I agree. Although Owens does have the one state championship, he also has 2 losing seasons and a 68% winning percentage, which is good.
But King, although only knocking on the door a few times, has maintained an 85% winning percentage, which is damn good. Only a few high school coaches in the state can brag an equal or better record!

you may not be as right as u think ur about that JT fan cause some of those where the first people to say they are for the to schools uniting

I agree. Although Owens does have the one state championship, he also has 2 losing seasons and a 68% winning percentage, which is good.
But King, although only knocking on the door a few times, has maintained an 85% winning percentage, which is damn good. Only a few high school coaches in the state can brag an equal or better record!
well he hasnt been coaching longer than the rest. if you go back to owen first 5-6 or 7 yrs it would be just as high:rolleyes:

Owens had a .655 winning % after his first 5 years. Fail again.
It also took Owens 5 years just to reach his first 10 win season. King has done that in 4 of his first 5 seasons.

It's it Lufkin that does that? Where all the columnists pick a few games that are happening that week? I know Longview does...
Yes they do, and, actually, a few picked against Lufkin last year - I think a few picked North Shore and also the Woodz. No one would ever pick LV to beat LP though - no way - that's like a sure fire way to get fired.

And Lufkin will get their swagger back this year.
man is you crazy!!!!!! or yo homerism is just that strong:confused:. if lee is not a elite then lufkin sure as hell isnt!!! neither one is right now becausde they havnt done much in the post season. lufkin really aint did naything since 2005 when they made it to the semi-finals. they were racnked #1 at the start of 06 but didnt belong there for stayed there because of a weak regular season schedule for 2, and was outsed bad in the first round for 3. lee and lufkin climed at the sametime and declined around the sametime, both are dangerous teams to play, but cannot be of the elite group as of yet. lee mmissed the playoffs in 05,out 2nd round in 06, out 1st round in 07 and 2nd in 08, but were co-district champs. lufkin went 1st round in 06 and 07,and 2nd round in 08 . if i rememebr correctly each loss was decisive. neither is elite team right now, but could be on the verge of kicking theirselves back to the elite status after this season. they were both elite in early to mid millenium. both winning state champs and was known for going deep in the playoffs a nd to semi-finals

once again homer, owens built a program from the ground up !! king was given a good program and has failed to do anything with it. i mean he finally has made astate apperance, but that was in 4a. i feal all of east texas 5a could have done atleast that or better last yr. longview has 5a numbers and plays in 4a and squeezed to the title game. every game jusT ABOUT was a dogfight. not the status quae for a elit coach. king is mediocre

Rapture buddy that was not homerism at all. Lufkin would have 3 more State championships if it was not for SLC. Can you say the same for TYler Lee? Lufkin is considered one of the Elite programs because of Coach Outlaw. Tyler Lee has been dclose to getting to that stage several times. Just never can get over the hump. That is a fair assesment. No homer at all. I know you think Lee is an elite program but State wide it is not thought of that way. No shame they just have not put the playoff runs in consecutive years. Longview is considered Elite because they have been consistent winners for so many years. Step back. Take the Rose colored glasses off and look at the whole picture. My opinion is if Lufkin does not go far in playoffs this year they will be off the elite classification.

how many 10 win seasons did longview have druin that same stretch in the same time or era? just garbage!!!!! face it owens is the better coach. you would have had yo state title and wins vs lufkin many games earlier if he hadda had the lobo green on.
