I think after seeing Friday Night Lights, we all wondered what happened to the domination days out in west Texas. You all know that Odessa Permian didn't win a district game last year but I'm starting to hear rumors of them being decent this coming year...is there any truth to that?

Who knows? They may be on the right track to at least win a district game this year :D :D . Sorry, had to take at "dig" at my Mojo buddies. IMHO, they really are on the right track. Gaines was hired as A.D. to restore some glory in Odessa and then they hired one of their own in Coach Allman who played on winning teams for ol' Mojo. Allman is very defensive minded and if you have followed the history of Permian, "D" was always a trademark in all of their championship days. Dang those boys could hit! This year will be tough for them as they are under a new coach and scheme plus the district will be tough with Abilene and Lee in the mix. They have to come to Shotwell twice (ouch) to play both Abilene and Abilene Cooper and that won't help anything.
But I do expect in the next 3 years to see Mojo back in the playoffs.

Permian's new coaching staff has very impressive credentials, and from what ktchamp has told me from his visits to the fieldhouse...the Panthers have been working very hard this off-season, and there is a work ethic on campus now that has been missing for a while. I'm not sure what the expectations for this Permian team should be other than that they give 110% every game and compete. It's probably not going to happen overnight that's for sure, but they appear to be going in the right direction with the new staff.

I think that's a good assessment. Allman has a chance to start several talented juniors this season, and if he does I expect we'll have a successful 2006. For this year, my word for the day is PATIENCE. ;)

In FNL the book often says that Odessa Permian couldn't take a loss because they were so used to winning. They had to win EVERY week or there would be a "for sale" sign or two out in front of Gary Gaines' house or various other destructive things done due to angry fans. I'm sure most of you have either seen the movie or read the book. I noticed the past few years Permian hasn't done so good, have the fans just gotten used to this or are there "for sale" signs in front of their current coach's house?

will this place is suppose to be the hardest place to coach some times to win you must know how to lose and they know what it is to lose now so yea
