Houston NBC afiliate just said on the 6:00 news that Coach Dodge told them that the day before he was supposed to interview with Rice that he pulled out of the search for a new coach.

most people knew he wasnt going to get the job. hes gonna wait until riley graduates before moving to college.

Rice would not have been a good spot for him anyway in my opinion. He would have to wait four years just to have his type of players recruited (not easy at a private school like Rice these days) and cycled into the program where they could make significant contributions.

His running back is already there. You just have to take the bat out of his hands. Good point though, hard to run the spread with a veer QB. Couldn't stand to see the sight of Riley wearing Katy red either.

You think Dodge would have moved to Katy? Wasn't Adam Wilson from the SLC area? He was a linebacker at Katy. He was called Adam 'Bomb' Wilson.

Didn't coach Dodge start with a more traditional offense the first year, and move into the spread in steps?

You are correct... Just before going 5-A Dodge took his entire staff to Middle Tennessee State and spent time with his buddy, Alex Robbins. That was when the offense was born.

the spread was in place, but the no huddle didn't come until the 02 season. we even had a tight end in 00.

I heard him talk once on this and he made it sound like it was exponentially different.... different blocking schemes, different pass routes (particularly interaction with the receivers), and different reads by the quarterback. He really emphasized the latter. Robbins was the QB coach at the time at MSU and that was the real core of what they wanted to do.

It was Jake, and he was still a tight end on the '01 team. Moved to DE for his sr. year.

I just read a quote from Dodge on www.marshallnewsmessenger.com where he talked about having 7 players from the SLC program (I think he meant SLC and not his entire 19 years of coaching) to sign Division I offers. That would be 7 in 5 years... can you name them?

It would be more than that wouldn't it?

Ulatowski - Texas
Bondy - Texas
S. Allen - Texas
Enright - SMU
M. Agnew (I forget for the life of me where we went)
J. Agnew - Tulsa
S. Simpson - Navy
McElroy - Tech
Galbraith - SDSU
P. Fleps - Navy
C. Daniel - Mizzou
M. Prince - Mizzou
Benoist - Vandy

(a couple of those might be wrong, I'm not sure about Spencer Allen. Maybe ddaddy can confirm for me)

that's more than 7, heck there's 7 this year

I don't know... it was Dodge that was quoted. He said signed so you can't use those from this year that have made verbal commitments. It was for the seasons 2000-2004.

I could not find Allen on any rosters at UT. Now another question... wouldn't D1-aa count? Then you have to include Wasson, right? Another question.... I have been told that the appointments to the Academies are not counted in the numbers as they are not athletic scholarships per se... don't know but I have seen folks make that comment before.

Wasn't it Jake Benoist?
no jake was the back up te as a sop[h. the sr was daniel lacroix, who had a great career at trinity. we only ran a handful of te plays in 01 since we were overloaded at wrs who could catch. jake was the example of why some people have to play defense.

USD does not offer scholarships? Is it because they do not because they are competing against other DI-AA schools that do have scholarship players. It does look like there are more than 7 to me... I guess Todd lost count.

Not likely that Luna will play football. Rice sucks as a football team and thier baseball team came out ranked #5. What would you do... go out for a bad team or start for a team that will probably end up at the CWS?

You think Dodge would have moved to Katy? Wasn't Adam Wilson from the SLC area? He was a linebacker at Katy. He was called Adam 'Bomb' Wilson.

The "Bomb" came to us via Midland Lee and though a decent player not a very good representative of either school. I'll leave it at that. As far as Dodge going to Rice, I thought that would be a bad fit as well. I think he is more likely to get an OC job at a better program. As far as moving to Katy, probably too far of a drive, but you never know, we had the RB from SLC for the 04 season.
