Well, we're up to 13 kids going to college now with the announcement of OG Josh Burrola going to Howard Payne from the 2008 squad.
We have 4 D-1 early commitments from kids on the 2009 team.
Our Spring Game is May 28th and I plan to give as much of a report as possible, as I'm sure Bake and Owlfan and Gray will also.
And disgraced former Owl and Sooner, J.D. Quinn, of the Rhett Bomar car dealership scandal, who transfered to Wyoming or Montana State, or something like that, just signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins.
That's all for now.

With Phillips (ath) and Jackson (MLB) committed to Texas, and Barnett (QB) committed to Iowa St., and Edwards (DT) to Kansas, not to mention about 4-5 other D1 prospects I'd say 7-12 range? Am i close?

Uggh = I hope not too high. Owl teams in the past havent always responded too well to high rankings...

How did Barnett look at the scrimmage? Is he fully recovered?

The range Bake said......
His evalution may just be correct, but there are too many variables in this squad, year to year, to rank them very high before they show they will perform to that level.
I think this group.....COULD be contenders this year, but they have got to show that they can overcome the losses in personel they had (13 kids in college next year, though only 1 was a major D1 signing), the lack of size on the offensive line, and they have their heads on straight....a major thing for a Garland team year in and year out.
I think a pretty fair range would be between 18-25 and let them prove themselves before we have a coronation....;)
I've seen a Garland team with tons of talent go 3-7 because the prima dona factor was so oppressive that year, and I've seen a bunch of over-achievers do wonderful things out of the blue (1999, 2006, 2008) ((not so much 2006, but they had been so erratic as juniors that a semi-final run was unexpected out of that group)).

I agree for the most part - somewhere in the top 25 but not higher than around 15 - let them prove themselves. Of course, expectations will be sky high because of all the D1 talent. Last year, no one expected much from them and the surprised everyone. Not the case this year. From what I've seen, the prima dona factor shouldnt be a big issue with this group, but only time will tell. One thing for sure - its gonna be a lot of fun!

LH....he looked good in the pocket...threw some very nice type 2 routes (between the backers and under the safety)...nice touch...it's going to be fun watching him and Zorn battle.

If Barnett is fully healthy, that of course allows Phillips to play WR, where he's the best that I saw last year, bar none (and that includes Mike Davis). I see no reason that Garland is not a top 3 team in the area as long as they stay healthy. Losing a few key defensive players will hurt along with Updyke, Blanton and the big TE whose name escapes me right now, but man, the talent is there this year, that's for sure.

I look forward to seeing those scrappy Garland players making another good run at state. I'm sure if the talent doesn't show up, the heart is there. :notworthy
