Well it still hasn't hit me yet, but we are once again in the off season. The board is moving a little slow so I came up with this. Being a senior, the state game was my last game official as a dragon (although i'll always be one) It's been such a great ride being a part of something this great. (Seniors '06, state all four years baby!) Anyways, I've compiled a list of my greatest Carroll football memories (not necessarily games). Feel free to compile a list of your own, but here are mine:

2001 Grapevine - Technically I wasn't in high school for this, but this was the game that really got me into carroll football. The game got called due to rain and was rescheduled for the next day (saturday). I'm pretty sure we came back from behind to win the game (a ricky lay td sneak, and a pick to seal the game). A very exciting game, and a good one to start off my memories.

2002 Lufkin - No doubt is the best game I've ever wtinessed as a Dragon. Everyone knows the story, down 16 in the fourth, rally back for the win. I'll never forget watching Chase Hargis bat down the hail mary to secure the victory right in front of were i was sitting, and hearing the crowd erupt. The best game of my high school days. no doubt.

Going to state 2002 - going to state the for the first time was a great memory. The whole town was in San Antonio and the spirit was great. Although it wasn't much of a game, the experience will last me a lifetime.

Going to state 2003 - Alright, some of you will be confused by this. But it's a memory nonetheless. This is one game I will for sure never forget...the one that got away. It was an eerie feeling after Thompson picked off Chase Daniel for the win. The stands were virtually silent. It's not a good memory, but a memory nonetheless.

2004 Denton Ryan - This was a great experience for me and my school. The whole week this game was on everyone's mind. Thursday was pretty much a football holiday. We had a pep rally and a cookout. Teacher's were out of their minds if they tried to teach. The crowd was insane for that game. Everyone was so into the game and so loud. And plus, blowing out a team on ESPN is always fun.

2004 Lufkin - Another instant classic. Just like most sequels, it had more hype than the first, but wasn't quite as good. Nonetheless this was a great game. I thought we had it in the bag then Lufkin comes storming back. This was a great game to be with the students screaming our lungs out, and going crazy as we hold on for the win.
-submemory-watching luna plow through that lufkin defender for the victory.

2004 Abilene - What a game this was. I thought we had it secured but Abilene comes storming back. This was the game that coined the "Charlie" chants. I specifically remember going crazy when Pat Benoist intercepted the ball for the win. One of the very few times I though we were going to lose.

2005 Grapevine - Hey, it was the first really close game we'd had in a long long time. Plus I was able to be Crew-ing on the sideline for this one and the atmosphere was great. The Dragon fans were deafening at times, and I'll never forget being able to get the crowd going, and hearing the roars everytime we made a play.
-Submemory - When Riley turned that broken screen pass into a huge gain, the crowd was so deafening. Loudest it was all year.

State game 2004 - A pretty good game, not amazing. But of course the memory of watching Kevin Ortega's kcik sail through the uprights is enough to make it one of my best.

State game 2005 - This was one of the most fun games I was involved in all year. Winning state your senior year is always a blast. Plus getting revenge...This one is self explanatory.

And of course, all the great times in the student sectionand Crew-ing on the sideline, screaming my lungs out.

Hope that didn't bore you too much. Feel free to share some of yours.

Well, I had been watching Katy football since I was a toddler, so I'll just list mostly HS ones

1992 vs. Jersey Village - only a wee 7th grader, but this was perhaps THE game that put Katy on the map in 5A football (we could debate that forever). To beat the number 1 team in Texas on their field was something else.

1992 vs. FB Clements - 14 pts in 11 seconds for the win? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

1993 vs. Jersey Village - we stomp em, Bill Jatzlau runs for 200+ and the after game handshakes turns into Royal Rumble. I remember walking out with my folks are then just stopping and screaming. Very surreal, you just don't see that often , and you don't know how to react.

1994 (fish year) vs. Beaumont Westbrook - I thought 92 Clements couldn't be topped...I was wrong. This Westbrook team woulda destroyed Plano. ktchamp and myself with friends proceed to bust an entire row of seats in the Astrodome from jumping on them.

1995 vs. Taylor - ugh, 10-7 loss...this game still sticks in the side of all Katy fans. The 1995 Katy team was a very talented one that cared more about partying than playin' football.

1996 vs. Lamar - total domination...by Lamar. For us juniors, being in the locker room and seeing the seniors breaking down afterwards, made us realize that is no way to go out.

January 1997 - Coach Beauchamp's death. About 7 players, including myself, were on a field trip to D.C. when this happened, including baldtiger15. We had about an hour and a half meeting at our hotel, and decided that there was no way we go out without winning state. Right there the seniors to be knew what was ahead.

1997 vs. Elsik, first round - almost over before it again, cold, rainy, and a slugfest. Thank God their deep snapper sucked.

1997 vs. Lamer, second round - Revenge...big time. We were all over them like flies on horse crap. They just quit at halftime and we put it on cruise.

1997 State Game - the textbook ending, total ownage of nationally 3rd ranked Longview. Parades afterward, riding through town on fire trucks...couldn't write a better ending to 4 of the best years of my life.

im only a soph but i'll list mine from the last two years..

Midland Lee-04
now, it wasnt a game, it was my first game being out in the field for band, and acuttaly getting into the game

Lufkin-04
just wow...it was a great game, at halftime i thought it was going to be all slc, but lufkin came storming back..the play i will never forget, is that play where Luna just plowed through the guy, love that play

Denton Ryan-04
just amazing how hyped up Southlake was about this game..that whole week of school was a blow off..everybody had all their gear on all week..the pep rally that day was awesome..the whole dragon band got to attend this..it was insane all the cameras..plus the crew skit that day hahah that was funnny

Abilinie-04
what a LOUD game..that game was by far the loudest game ive ever been to

SV-04
what a way to cap off a great year, with a state and "mythical" national championship, with a kevin ortega kick..being a freshman and going to state, and winning was just a great expirence..the whole national title thing was fun as well

Gpvine-05
a closer game than anybody suspected..with the "vandalism" and what not to our school, i thought for sure itd be an SLC blowout, gpvine came to play that day, and i think that game truly sparked the dragons

Plano-05
that game had me worried, with plano winning into the 4th, i was getting nervous, this game was also another spark for the dragon IMO

Katy-05
revenge game..two schools that respect eachother..going to back to back state games, then let alone winning both was amazing..

its been a great 2 years of highschool thus far, filled with many memories, i hope to add some more in the next couple of years

Good Luck in College Dragoncrew06

As a former player I have some memories from 40 years ago.

5th game of my Junior year: Worked out all week alternating with the first string guard Stood on the sideline ready to go in. Didn't get to play.

8th game my junior year: first game as a starter. Played the whole game. One of our rare wins. 3 plays before the end of the game a linebacker fell on my ankle. I finished the game out but couldn't walk - let alone run. Dumb intern at the emvergency room puts my sprained ankle in a cast DON'T EVER LET SOMEONE DO THAT TO YOU! It destroyed my ankle. Two weeks in the cast ended my season - left my ankle so weak from swelling and atrophy that it never healed. I blew that ankle out again 2 months ago, 41 years after tha original injury. I have lost count of how many times I have sprained that ankle.

Post season Junior year coach tells us that anyone who can't break 6:00 minutes in the mile won't make the team next year. I try running a mile: I manage to run about a 7:30. I go out for track - the mile of course. Remember, I'm an offensive guard with a bad ankle. I keep spraining my ankle running. I work and work. I run the mile every meet - I finish dead last every meet. I hear people laughing at me as I get lapped. I finaly get my mile down to 5:55. The second team quarterback who runs the half mile and I are the only two people on the football team who can break 6:00 minutes in the mile - the coach drops the requirement.

Pre season my senior year - after working out like a madman during the off season I have really impressed the coaches. One of them later told me he couldn't believe how hard I worked - I used their reccomended program as the warm up for my work out. During two a days I get written up in the newspaper as "most improved player".

1st game my senior year another rare win. Best game I ever played. I kept burying the defensive tackle playing across from me. I miss one block the whole game - a pull - their defensive end knocked me down.

Monday after the game the coach announces that for the first ( and as it turns out the only ) time that the coaches have graded everyone's blocking from the films. I am looking forward to hearing the evaluation. The coach starts at the other side of the line he gets to the other guard, and complements him: 95% - highest percentage on the line. I am kind of surprised by this since the other guard was a notorious loafer who was only on the football team because his girl friend thought that he looked good in a uniform.

Next the center gets his score, now it is my turn, but the coach skips over me and goes to the tackle then the tight end. I am puzzled by this. Then the coach comes back to me with fire in his eyes: TIGERHAT ( of course he didn't call me that, he yelled out my real name ) YOU GRADED OUT AT 50% THAT WAS THE WORST CASE OF LOAFING I HAVE EVER SEEN. YOU WILL NEVER PLAY ANOTHER PLAY ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE AS LONG AS I AM HEAD COACH. He names my backup as the new starting guard.

The week before the game the coaches had swapped me from left guard to right and the loafer from right guard to left. We were both about the same size and looked a lot alike. To this day I am convinced that the coaches who had never graded blocking before simply got the two of us confused. I asked the coach after practice if my pulling had been what downgraded my blocking score. He said no, those were the only blokcs that I made the whole game.

At my 35th high school reunion the starting running back for our team came up to me and said : "I want to thank you, I always knew that you gave it everything you had on every play, and that there were other people up there in the line who didn't."
