Are the dragons really going to be all that good next year? I mean they are losing a lot of players. What if they lose next year will the tradition be broken? I mean they are losing their QB and more for, their offense and defense. Do ya'll think they are going to be rated nationally?:eek:

You already broke tradition...Your tradition was to have a 31 game win streak snapped by katy...by winning your 32nd game against katy, you broke your tradition.

Tradition is more than just winning. it's how you win and how you react to adversity. Next year it looks as if SLC has a chance to difine their tradition. Can they win in a rebuilding year? By win I mean make the play-offs and make a deep run. Katy has proven they can. SLC has proven they are a great team...next year SLC has some work to do filling in positions as does katy...Tradition means being able to fill those positions and step up and win.

so I guess losing all of your offensive lineman, quarterback, 3 D-lineman, 2 linebackers, 3 in the secondary, runningback, learning a new offensive system and moving up to 5A from 4A does not show that Carroll can win in a so called "rebuilding year"

Of course, an "off year" can have multiple definitions. By SLC standards, an off year is not winning state. For others, it is losing a couple of more games than usual or not making the playoffs, etc.. I think that SLC stands a chance of having an off year for them because of the tremendous loss of talent and experience due to graduation. It may indeed be a rebuilding year for them. Of course, you can do worse than having to rebuild around Riley Dodge and Tre Newton! :cool:

there are none right now that absolutely stand out. We'll have to wait through the offseason and 7 v 7 to see who develops well and who dodge thinks can handle varsity

We're going to see threads like this until someone manages to beat Southlake Carroll before the state championship game. I don't see that happening as long as Coach Dodge is still there. They're on another level right now, so as far as I'm concerned, it's theirs for the taking until someone proves otherwise.

I hate to be the one to tell you this wide, but this is the state of Class 5A right now. :) People are going to post and post about it because that's the big deal in the state right now. Carroll has been dominant and have created a love-hate relationship around the state because of it. You will see posts like this until they get "ordinary" and lose before state.

I also recommend that people read the other posts on the board though so I'm with you there.

It amazes me that people aren't thanking the great people of Southlake for enriching our minds with their comments. Some people just don't know a good thing when it is right on their computer screen. I want some more post about how every SLC player deserves every award... I have missed those lately. I am suprised nobody has thought about a game SLC vs. the USA. It would pretty much feature SL against the All American team.

However, for those who do not know it, when next year's seniors (Padron, Russo, Fords, LeHane) were freshmen they were 10-0 and shut out 5 opponents along the way. Additionally, Padron and the Fords were brought up to the Varsity. They actually suited up for the 03 state game against Katy. They also played a lot as sophomores during last year's state run. Ironically, all of those players were on the defense this year. 4 of them were defensive starters at one time this year. Let's understand that the defense will AGAIN be the heart of SLC's team in 2006. The OL will be young but will be bigger than this year's OL as well. With Newton and Dodge having a year of varsity experience and all the returning studs on defense, don't expect SLC to roll over next year. Tradition never graduates.

That was the year that Kenton Getwed (spelling?) stepped it up as a junior. Tradition is tradition, and it seems that SLC has a longstanding tradtion of having Junior WR stepping it up that year, and having a better Junior year that Sr year. (expl. Getwed, and Renfro) sure renfros was in part due to injury, but the outstanding performances by McKay Jakobson and Evan Fentris would have shadowed Clint Renfros outstanding performances in 04... the same way that renfro shadowed Getwed in 04... So in end i think we will see some real athletisism step it up from the Junior class... not necessarily the sr class in 06
