Novel Idea Ags. Now, the AAS article with some zingers....
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/05/12//0512kelso.html
"A 4-foot-by 9-foot grave site runs $2,000 in the Aggie section, and just $950 in the regular municipal section.
So why does it cost an extra $1,050 to get planted in the Aggie part? "It's just really the prestige," Albrecht said. I wonder if Aggies can get a price break if they buy season tickets for the whole family? And why not? The football team has been playing dead for the past couple of years."
"He said they have yet to hear from Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who was an Aggie yell leader when he was in school.
Maybe Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is going to buy his space for him after the Republican primary."
"Actually, this Aggie cemetery is a pretty good idea for College Station tourism. Let's face it. The night life out there at the graveyard will be on par with the current club scene in the rest of College Station. No offense to the Dixie Chicken, of course."

In the grand scheme of things, Austin's not much better. BCS never claims to be the party town Austin seems to always pride themselves on. Maybe by Lubbock, El Paso, Waco and Amarillo standards, it might be. Not even sure if it's the party town DFW and Houston are. I don't know of too many people outside of this state who have heard of 6th Street and itching to get there.

You might be right, but I think that SXSW is pretty succesful in a national type sense. I imagine the MTV folks thought it was a pretty good idea to have The Real World there and not in College Station.

Austin isn't only known partying... It's a pretty big recreational city... and I know tons of people outside of Texas who know what 6th street is... I'd put money on Austin being the most fit city in Texas and one of the most fit cities in the nation.

ACL fest isn't too shabby either... the lineup this year is pretty outstanding.

I like Austin a lot for all the reasons you mentioned. I wish The Woodlands were closer to Austin rather than Houston. But for some Austin blowhard to start ridiculing BCS's nightlife, it's a little ridiculous when you consider BCS does not even attempt to be any kind of party town. While people might go wild in 6th street occasionally, it's no SF or NYC and definitely does not warrant anybody making those comments in jest.

I've partied with Kelso before. Even drove him and Wilson in the caddy back in the day. He's a pretty good guy, but not unbiased.
Correct here though.

He writes for the newspaper in Austin... making fun of aggy is the thing to do around here... I'm sure the BCS newspaper has tons of gay hippy jokes about Austin...

I don't even think they have a major publication in BCS. Not close to AAS anyway. The 2 places are completely different and can't really be compared. One's a major city. One's a town.

Well technically BCS is two towns. They're jokes... if you're an aggy you'll dislike them if you're a horn you'll giggle and go about your day... He's writing to his readers who are more than likely UT alum or students or T-shirt fans...

I'd be interested to know the percentage of Austin Area HS graduates who choose to go to A&M. And vice versa with BCS graduates. Although I can't really imagine anybody moving to BCS who does not project sending their kids to aTm at some point.

I went to school (UT) with two kids from A&M Consolidated. Their parents worked for a$m, and I think one of them(the Dad) became the President at Tech later.
(actually researched it and he was the President of Tech)

You're making fun of people for wanting to be buried near the school that ment a lot to them. So effectively you're making fun of some people's last living wishes. You stay classy, Austin.

it's not the fact that they want to be buried there (i can understand it) it's the steep change in price. take out the aggy shots and it's pretty much questioning why it's such a big difference.

If you know music, Austin is definitely on the map.
6th St is renowned for its live music scene

*yawn* This has never been discussed before. Texas mentions A&M in their fight song as well, they have a Hex Rally before the A&M game, etc. The only difference is we don't have the t-shirt fans living vicariously through our school to put the other down even though it's better than they can ever hope to be. :D

Holy crap.

1. Take out "Saw Varsity's Horns Off" because it's not a part of the fight song itself, add in the other verse that doesn't go on and on about Texas, and it's a small part of the entire thing. The fact remains that Texas mentions A&M and A&M mentions Texas. The end.
2. LOL! Then I guess anyone can just bandwagon on any team they want despite where htey go to school, huh? Wow, that's difficult! Look at me, I'm a Gator/USC/Notre Dame fan!! We're so much better than that piece of trash team Texas! And I still don't believe steve is going to MIT (as there's no way he's been accepted this early), but whatever.

You should probably move there. San Diego and Portland are very affordable now. Not messing with you. I'm being serious. If I was single and kidless like you, I'd be gone.

It used to be depressing when I lived there. Not anymore. I like what they've done downtown around the 2 stadiums and the markets. Plus they have one thing in common with all first class cities in Nth America. The heavy concentration of Asian Americans.
