POOL A- Cy Falls, Waller, Cy Ranch, Jersey Village
POOL B- Cy Fair, Tomball, Cy Springs, Klein Collins
POOL C- Cy Woods, Spring, Alief Taylor, Langham Creek
POOL D- Klein Forest, Baytown Lee, Cy Creek, Stratford
In my (not perfect) opinion, I say: Cy Falls, Klein Collins, Spring, Klein Forest are your pool winners.

It will be interesting to see how Klein Collins, Tomball and Spring do the following week at the Houston Chavez/Texans SQT...they will have a one tourney advantage over district rival Klein...
Forest99 do you know if Darneal is going to do a write up on that tourney? ;) How do you think Klein will do this 7 on 7 season?
forest99
05-11-2009, 11:44 AM
Well he usually does a write-up every weekend for Houston area 7 on 7 tournaments so Im guessing that he will. And Klein was terrific last summer and dont they return quite a bit (QB Crum, QB Peebles, RB Johnson, RB Barnes, TE/LB Kisseberth)

Give me..
Pool A- Falls
Pool B- Fair/Collins winner
Pool C- Langham/Spring winner
Pool D- Creek/Forest winner
If the C and D winners aren't playing in the semis, I'll take those two as the qualifiers. Otherwise, Falls probably goes with whoever emerges from C/D.
Creek and Langham are usually good at 7 on 7 when they have some talent and they've both got experience to work with this year.
Forest and Spring usually have the talent to compete.

Klein will be good again this year and yes everyone returns. Our first tourney this year is the Texans. The Cy Falls tourney is always full, does not matter when I call or email...answer is always the same. Sorry we are full...but that is cool, I understand how the game is played.
By the way does anyone know if a QB can play with a hard cast? there is no contact and it is not his throwing hand. Anyone seen a guy play with a hard cast in an SQT?

yes they can play with a hard cast on (at least I had a player with one on and it was ok last year) but was told even if he accidentally touches somebody with the hard cast he will be ejected, no questions.

Both usually are very good at 7o7. Langham surprised me a little last year and proved to have a very good group of kids that competed well. Like you say, they both are returning an outstanding group of kids. At this point I take Creek to beat Langham and Tomball to beat Falls in the semi's, if it winds up A/B and C/D. Do the pool matchups ever change or is it always A/B and C/D?
Surprisingly, Fair usually does well in 7o7. But they run more of the "basketball" plays and just chip away at the yardage keeping the ball moving and away from the opponent.

your dead on right kt with the creeks. langham has bryant back at qb with the brothers at wr. the only question there is who got the head coaching job and how quickly will the players feel comfortablewith the new system? for cy creek they bring in a new qb but have even more talent at wr and rb like selders and mitchem. they lost their oc here recently but the offensive scheme should stay the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong? But wasn't Livingston a receiver for Dekaney last year? He was one of the better players on the team after watching Oak playing them this year. And if so what was the transfer for, i thought UIL had rules about that stuff or is he getting any penalty for the move?

lc 49 alief taylor 32
lc 41 spring 33
lc 41 cy woods 25
semi-finals
lc 55 cy creek 20

that tells me that spring must have a pretty good team also to be that close to them and that langham creek is going to be really good!

You'll probably have to use a few different sources for 7 on 7 information, TPI still has some Houston guys in place so you'll be able to get that info. Theoldcoach should have strong DFW coverage since both Matt's are there, they also have Robert Sellers who used to work for TPI so I bet they have a little bit in H Town. There's another site called lone star gridiron that usually has some cen tex stuff, the iinfo is out there may just have to look a little harder

I don't go to 7 on 7 because I don't put a ton of stock into it but these numbers by LC can't be ignored. I have a feeling, with Coach Thompson at the helm, they are going to have a great year. It's been a while for them too.
I think all the 15-5a teams will need to watch out for them...they have a great receiving corps and the QB isn't too shabby either. Not sure how we will do but, typically, we aren't that great in 7 on 7 so it doesn't surprise me that we bombed. We did in 2005 too - and took Katy to the limit in the regional finals that year! 7 on 7 doesn't always equate to great success down the line but in LC's case, it's possible if they bring a good defense as well.

I wouldn't go to one if we won every time. I just don't care for 7 on 7 nor do I use it as much of a barometer for success. In 2005, everyone was talking down on Falls after not making 7 on 7 finals then losing the first two games. I think someone like Katy Taylor won that year. We went to regional finals.
It's touch/flag football and not even a complete team at that. It does help the offense get some practice in before real football starts so that's a plus. Just not something I want to go see. I do think LC will be very competitive this coming season. It sounds like they were impressive over the weekend though - touch/flag FB or not.

I have no idea. I've never gone to one - even when the Eagles were playing. I wait for the real deal - 22 players on the field.:) Now, I did hear that Katy did very well a couple of years ago and won state so the correlation is there at times - just not as much as one would think.

I read somewhere that almost 70% of the teams who make the state tournament in 7 on 7 are playoff teams and more than half historically win at least one playoff game. Pretty strong if you ask me
Look at last year's champs
Allen: did not make state
Katy: made state
Lake Travis: made state
Sulphur Springs: made state
Prosper: made state
Carthage: made state
solid evidence at least for 2008 there was success in it, but it varies year to year

Pretty good news for Langham. I was a little worried because as of a couple of weeks ago it didn't look like Will Bryant was going to be playing. The story was that he had a NHS fundraiser (he's the Pres) to attend and he was going to miss 7 on 7. Apparently he didn't.
