USA Today came out with their all-American first and second teams. TX listees are:

1st Team Offense

- blank -

1st Team Defense

L - Eddie Jones, Kilgore
LB - Segio Kindle, Woodrow Wilson (Dallas)

2nd Team Offense

RB - Michael Goodson, Klein Collins
L - Ja'Marcus Webb, North Mesquite
L - Chris Stewart, Klein

2nd Team Defense

- blank -

Top Juniors

Richetti Jone, Dallas Lincoln
Ryan Mallett, Texas High, Texarkana

Sore of wonder how well Texas 5A teams are in eyes of Lawlor and his bunch. Seems that ending year as #1 doesn't keep you there year-over-year and now it looks like the best in the state are not likely mentions in this rag.

Assuming the 1st and 2nd teams are made up of a total of 44 players, I think 5 Texas players is pretty significant representation... How many did Montana have?

(From the names on the list, it looks to me like they used some sort of recruiting information to make the list)

How did Michael Goodson make it. I think he has less than 1000 yards this season

He did, but he was is the real deal but his team is horrible. But I agree second team All-Amercan is to high for him since he bacically sat on the sideline this year with an injury.

There are many more than just a few Texas backs that I would put ahead of Goodson.

OK, let' look at it from their point of view.

While USA today is a "national newspaper", the majority of their subscriptions come form the northeast and and far west. While they have seen increases in the mid-west over the past couple of years it is still not a predominant news source. For example, Miami Herald does a decent job but they will still have 9 Florida kids in their top 50 national list.

Parade once did a good job as well, however they have started listening to Lawlor, McCabe, and Wharten too much and we are starting to see the influx of "nationalism". Take those papers for what they are worth and don't get too riled up about it.

One intersting note, Gatorade is again considering trying to line up some national HS games. They put some feelers out on it 2 years ago and let it drop. My uncle markets for one of the subsidaries and he said they are seriously looking into the possibilities again.

I think it would be great to see Springdale vs. Charlotte Independence or SLC vs. Mission Viejo.
