Out of all the teams that use to make up the Old east Texas district. Lufkin, Longview, Tyler Lee, John tyler, Marshall, Nacogdoches, and texas High. Rank them from 1 to 7 on who you think are going to be the best this coming year.
1. Longview
2. John Tyler
3. Lufkin
4. Tyler Lee
5. Texas high
6. marshall
7. Nacogdoches
i know some people (Rapture) that think Tyler Lee are the best. I know their QB play should be better this year but IMHO Coach King and Coach Outlaw have Coach Owens number. In regards to John tyler they were a decent team last year and return several very good players.

They should never have broken up this district. Nor put Longview and Nac in a different class. A geographic exception should have been made and disregarded enrolment numbers. I do realize that there is still plenty of travel regardless. My point is we got rid of some traditional rivalries and as a result, Texas HS football overall loses quite a bit of what makes it special.

The East Texas Big Boys will be interesting to watch this year. I plan on making some trips to Tyler, to check out John Tyler and Lee. JT, as you said, has alot of guys coming back and, Lee has 2 guys that are committed to TCU, and I want to check them out. Longview will be strong in the 4A ranks, and Lufkin has one of the best recievers around in Quin Trimble.
Is it September yet?:(

It will be most like the OLD East Texas district for Lufkin in 2009 as they will play four of the 7 teams you listed, Tyler Lee, JT, Nacogdoches and Longview are all non-district games for the Pack this year. Texas High has not been part of the district since the 1970's, while Marshall and Nacogdoches were around until about 2000. Too bad we couldn't stay together, because there is probably less than 1000 students that separate the top and bottom of that group you mentioned from being 4A or 5A. Tyler Lee has about 2600 kids while Marshall or Texas High has about 1700, the rest of those schools are between 1900 and 2300. Still would make a great district.

Texas High has not been part of the district since the 1970's
They dropped in the 1990 realignment. That's when the "old" 12-5A became just the 6 of us (Longview, Lee, JT, Lp, Nac, and Marshall). They were the last of the original (Pine Tree dropped in 88).
Anyways, I think it should be a pretty good year for East Texas Football.
Longview is literally going into the year as State Championship or bust. Whether that's good or not, you decide. Definitely adds more pressure.
Lufkin will definitely rebound. I can't see them having a season like they did again.
John Tyler and Tyler Lee will probably have normal years. Playoffs but not able to go deep.
Texas High will be rebuilding from what I hear but they never rebuild....they're just reload like Lp and Longview do. Can't wait to head up to Grimm to see that one.
Marshall needs a new coach and won't have a successful year until they do IMO. They'll make the playoffs just because Sulphur Springs will be down after losing all that talent and Hallsville is Hallsville. Mount Pleasant/Pine Tree are useless when it comes to playoff contention.
I saw Nacogdoches in their last game of the season, since I thought we'd end up playing them. I wasn't impressed at all...at all. Really would like that team to pick it up but just don't see it happening. And even if they do, they most likely would have to face either Longview or Texas High in the first round. Ask Jacksonville and Whitehouse how that went last season.

Well, I can tell ya'll now that JT is definitely going to have their best team since the '05 season. If JT can stay focus and healthy they could definitely make a run atleast 3 to 4 rounds deep NO BS. JT returns 12 starters off a team that went 2 rounds deep last year and will be better this year. JT was one play away from beating Lufkin last year at Abe if not our own mistake at the end. I can see JT finishing the deal this year. JT/LP is going to be a GREAT game indeed! Region 2 D2 is nowhere near as hard a D1 will be this year IMO. Outside of Lake Highlands, Cove, and LP who really sticks out. Klein Oak lost alot from last year anyway. I think people shoold pay attention to the JT/Lufkin game because you might be a seeing a preview of a playoff maych-up later on in the year.

man dont listen to that lobo dood!!! he dont know what tyler have down here like we do . so he cant fix his mouth to say what lee or jt will do in the playoffs. they couldnt even win a 4a state champion ! what makes him think longview is guaranteed to make it deep anyway

My first question, is how long has Owens been at Tyler Lee?
During the tenure of John Outlaw at Lufkin, since 1995, Lufkin and Tyler Lee have played 13 times. Lee has an edge of 7-6 over those years through the 2008 season. Lufkin has won the last two in 2004 and 2008.
1995 - Lee win 14-7
1996 - Lufkin win 42-7
1997 - Lee win 24-14
1998 - Lufkin win 34-28
1999 - Lee win 28-17
2000 - Lee win 19-6
2001 - Lufkin win 21-0
2002 - Lee won both games in the round robin district 21-14 and 21-20
2003 - Lee and Lufkin split, with Lufkin winning the first 27-12 and Lee winning the 2nd game 21-14
2004 - Lufkin win 44-33
2008- Lufkin win 26-21
Best teams from this old district this year will be tough to choose, because they all look the calibur of the Old 12-5A we use to know. I think Longview, Lufkin, John Tyler and Tyler Lee in that order, but you really can't separate any of them with a sheet of newspaper. Too bad we can't go back, because it would be a high energy district race to watch this year.

This year I think it will be like this at least at the start of the season
1. Longview- have a lot of players coming back from 4a state finalist team such as RB Tyler McCray and QB Aaron Johnson
2. Tyler Lee- has a lot players from last year playoff squad RB Da Da Brown and QB Luke Wagner
3. Lufkin- Has some holes to fill with Jamarcus McFarland and the O-line but I think if we can do that we will be a dangerous team with both our QB and our defense should really good with Texas commit Safety Carrington Byndom but we will see
4. Tyler John Tyler- will be good team with a ton of talent coming of last years team I think this will be a dangerous team and could upset some people
Overall the Old East Texas District could surprise some teams and go deep from top to bottom in my opinion is real close with talent but we'll see who will be able to do this in the playoffs

Longview was a very good team last year and returns a lot. They will be a top team in the entire state not just East Texas.

Ok BigRed quit argueing about everything. I want you to post Tyler Lees schedule. Tell us what you think their record will be. Tell us all the games they are going to win and why they should win them. Then tell us the games they are going to lose and why. We can then look back later on and see how good a prognosticater you are. By the way I was on another web site. They were discuissing who the best Runningbacks in East Texas were going to be this next year. Lots and lots of posts on their with several names thrown around. No DaDa Brown was mentioned. This was from several people who's job it is to know things like that, not a bunch of wannabes like us.
