Before the ice was in my grill
Before I signed my major deal
These girls didn't give a damn if I was here...sheeeya

Some the worst lyrics I ever heard in my life...how that dude got
a record deal is beyond me.

i used to like him, before the entire world knew who he was. now that he's big, i've realized how bad his lyrics are

i mean, theres GOT to be a limit on how many times the line "back then they didnt want me now i'm hot ho's all on me" can be used in an album

I guess that is like when back in the day rappers who would say their names over and over cool j, run DMC, ICE-T, (yes the actor on Law and Order), etc.
Beware of the band dude that you picked on in high school. When you see him driving a Jag, he will be playing some version of a mike jones like artist.

To me...75% or more hip-hop now days...Is absolute garbage.
I'm an older head...I've been listening to rap music a long time.
My first album was LL Cool J's "Radio" back in like 1983...so I'm familiar with the music.

The lyrics now days are just corny. It's all about the same thing. I got bling...I got this car...I got big booty hoez...I got a gold grill....Wow! now let's move on.......

It used to be about lyrics. About who had the most game...who could tell the best story...Now they don't even tell a story..It's just crap.

Every once in a while...you will hear a song that has strong lyrical content..and is a throwback. But for the most part it is all whack and unoriginal...and Mike Jones is the king of that.

Agree with Wide on this one. I'm 24 and can't listen to most of today's rap.

Wide summed it up pretty good. Pimped rides with spinners, sippin' at the club, big bootys, ice on my neck= 90% of the songs today.

I went through most of grade school in the 90s and none of the stuff today can touch what came out then in my opinion. Not even close.

For all the young kids ;) ...these are lyrics.

Can you picture my prophecy?
stress in tha city
tha cops is hot for me
tha projects is full of bullets
tha bodies is droppin'
there ain't no stoppin me
constantly moven while maken millions
witnessin' killins
leavin dead bodies in abandoned buildings
caries tha children
cause they're illin'
addicted to killin'
a near appeal from tha cap pealin'
what i'm feelin'
but will they last or be blasted
hard headed *******
maybe he'll listen in his casket
tha aftermath
more bodies being buried
i'm losen my homies in a hurry
they're relocating to tha cemetary
got me worried
stressin'
my visions bluried
tha question is will I live
no one in tha world loves me
i'm headed for danger
don't trust strangers
put one in tha chamber
whatever i'm feelin' is anger
don't wanna make excuses
cause this is how it is
what's tha use
unless we're shootin'
no one notices tha youth
It's Just Me against tha World baby

Chorus

ooohhhhh
Me against tha world
It's Just me against tha World
ooohhhhh

It's Just Me Against tha World
Me Against tha World
cause it's just me against tha world baby

Me against tha World

ooohhhh yeeah

I got nothin' ta lose
It's Just me against tha world baby

I got nothin' ta lose

[Dramacydal's verse]

Could somebody help me?
i'm out here all by myself
seeing ladies in stores
baby capones
livin wealthy
pictures of my birth
on tha surface what i'm dreamin'
seein' daddy seein'
full of crooked deamons
already crazy and screamin'
I guess them nightmares as a child
had me scared
but left me prepared
for awhile
is there another route?
for crooked outlaws
that are in a villian of young thugs

everday is more death
plus i'm more rollin
i'm seein more beatens
for me
to proceed with fear
scheme on schemeing
amd leavin' their peeps grievin'
cause ain't no bucks ta stack up
my nuts is backed up
i'm about ta act up
go load tha mack up
now watch me klack up
try makin' fat cuts
but yo it ain't workin
and evils lurken
I can see him smirken
when I gets tha bourbon
so what
go put some work in
and make my mail
makin' sells
risken 25 with a 'L'
but oh well

Chorus

Me Against tha World
with nothin' ta lose
it's just me against tha world

ooohhhh

It's just Me Against tha World baby
Me Against tha world
I got nothin' ta lose
It's just Me Against tha World

heeeyyy

It's just Me Against tha World baby

with nothin ta lose
it's just me against tha world baby
Me against tha world

Me against tha world

I got nothin' ta lose
it's just me against tha World baby

heeeyyy

[Tupac's verse]

With all this extra stressin'
tha question I wonder is after death
I feel my last breath
when will I finaly get to rest from this supression
they punish tha people that's askin questions
and those that possess
steal from tha ones without possesions
tha message I stress
to make it stop
study your lessons
don't settle for less
even tha genius asks questions
be gratefull for blessins
don't ever change
keep your essense
tha powers in tha people and tha politics we address
always do your best
don't let this pressure make ya panic
and when ya get stranded
and things don't go tha way ya planed it
dreaming of richs
in a position of makin' a difference
polititions and hipocrites
they don't wanna listen
if i'm insane
then tha fame ain't about ta change
it wasn't nothin' like tha game
it's just me Against tha World.

Good one KT2000.

Here is another one for the young bucks...

Rakim's Microphone Fiend... There is nothing out there now days that can come within 10 miles of these lyrics. One of the greatest hip hop songs ever.

I was a fiend before I became a teen
I melted microphone instead of cones of ice cream
Music orientated so when hip-hop was originated
Fitted like pieces of puzzles, complicated'Cause I grabbed the mic and try to say, ' Yes y'all!'
They tried to take it, and say that I'm too small
Cool, 'Cause I don't get upset
I kick a hole in the speaker, pull the plug, then I jet
Back to the lab ...without a mic to grab
So then I add all the rhymes I had
One after the other one, then I make another one
To dis the opposite then ask if the brother's done
I get a craving like I fiend for nicotine
But I don't need a cigarette, know what I mean?I'm raging, ripping up the stage and
Don't it sound amazing 'cause every rhyme is made and
Thought of, Cuz it's sort of...an addiction,
Magnatized by the mixing
Vocals, vocabulary, your verses, you're stuck in
The mic is a drano, volcanoes erupting,
Rhymes overflowing, gradually growing
Everything is written in the cold, so it can coin-
cide, my thoughts to guide,
48 tracks to slide
The invincible, microphone fiend Rakim
Spread the word, 'cause I'm in
E-F-F-E-C-T
A smooth operator operating correctly,
But back to the problem, I gotta habit,
You can't solve it, silly rabbit
The prescription is a hypertone that's thorough when
I fiend for a microphone like herion
Soon as the bass kicks, I need a fix
Gimme a stage and a mic and a mix
And I'll put you in a mood or is it a state of
unawareness? Beware, it's the reanamator!

A menace to a microphone, a lethal weapon
An assasinator, if the people ain't stepping
You see a part of me that you never seen
When I'm fiending for a microphone, I'm the microphone fiend...

(Verse 2:)
After 12, I'm worse that a Gremlin
Feed me Hip-hop and I start trembling
The thrill of suspense is intense, your horrified
But this ain't the cinemas of 'Tales From the Darkside',
By any means neccesary, this is what has to be done
Make way 'cause here I come....
My DJ cuts material....
Grand imperial.
It's a must that I bust any mic you're hand to me,
It's inherited, it's runs in the family
I wrote the rhyme that broke the bull's back,
If that don't slow 'em up, I carry a full pack.
Now I don't want to have to let off, you should of kept off
You didn't keep the stage warm, step off!
Ladies and Gentleman, You're about to see
A pasttime hobby about to be
Take it to the maximum, I can't relax see, I'm
Hype as a hyperchrondriac 'cause the rap be one-
Hell of a antidote, something you can't smoke
More than dope, you're trying to move away but you can't, you're
broke
More than cracked up, you should have backed up
For those who act up need to be more than smacked up
Any entertainer, I got a torture chamber
One on one and I'm the remainder!
So close your eyes and hold your breath,
And I'm a hit'cha wit the blow of death
Before you go, you'll remember you seen
The fiend of a microphone, I'm the microphone fiend

The microphone fiend...

Now that is Hip Hop.

That entire first verse is just sick...I put my favorite parts in bold.

WIDE TOP THIS

Big Daddy Kane

Ain't No Half-Steppin'

ah yeah
I’m with this
I’m just gonna sit here laid back to this nice mellow beat, you know
And drop some smooth lyrics
Cause it’s ‘88
Time to set it straight, knowwhatI’msaying
And ain’t no half stepping
Word
I’m ready

Rappers stepping to me they want to get some
But I’m the Kane, so yo, you know the outcome
Another victory
They can’t get with me
So pick a BC date cause you’re history
I’m the authentic poet to get lyrical
For you to beat me, it’s gonna take a miracle
And, stepping to me, yo that’s the wrong move
So what you on, Hobbs, dope or dog food?
Competition I just devour
Like a pitbull against a Chihuahua
Cause when it comes to being dope, hot damn
I got it good, now let me tell you who I am
The B-I-G D-A-double D-Y K-A-N-E
Dramatic, Asiatic, not like many
I’m different, so don’t compare me to another
Cause they can’t hang, word to the mother
At least not with the principal in this pedigree
So when I roll on you rappers, you better be
Ready to die because you’re petty
You’re just a butter knife, I’m a machete
That’s made by Ginzu, wait until when you
Try to front, so I can chop into
Your body, just because you try to be basing
Friday the 13th, I’mma play Jason
No type of joke, gag, game, puzzle or riddle
The name is Big Daddy, yes Big not little
So define it
Here’s your walking papers, sign it
And take a walk
As the Kane start to talk, cause...

<Break>
Ain’t no half-steppin’
<scratched> I’m the Big Daddy Kane
(3 times)

My rhymes are so dope and
The rappers be hoping
To sound like me, so soon I’ll have to open
A school of MCing, for those who want to be in
My field in court
Then again on second thought
To have MC’s coming out sounding so similar
It’s quite confusing for you to remember
The originator, and boy do I hate a
Perpetrator, but I’m much greater
The best oh yes I guess suggest the rest should fess
Don’t mess or test your highness
Unless you just address with best finesse
And bless the paragraph I manifest
Rap prime minister, some say sinister
Non-stopping the groove, until when it’s the
Climax, and I max, relax and chill
Have a break from a take of me acting ill
Brain cells are lit, ideas start to hit
Next the formation of words that fit
At the table I sit, making it legit
And when my pen hits the paper, ahh ****!
I stop and stand strong over MC’s
And devour with the power of Hercules
Or Samson, but I go further the length
Cause you could scalp my cameo and I’ll still have strength
And no, that’s not a myth, and if you try to riff
Or get with, the man with the given gift of gab
Your vocab, I’ll only ignore
Be sleeping on your rhymes till I start to snore
You can’t awake me, or even make me
Fear you, son, cause you can’t do me none
So, think about it if you’re trying to go
When you want to step to me, I think you should know that...

Ain’t no half-steppin’
<scratched> I’m the Big Daddy Kane

I appear right here and scare and dare
A mere musketeer that would dare to compare
Put him in the rear, back there where he can’t see clear
Get a beer, idea or near stare, yeah
So on to be want to be competition
Trying to step to me--must be on a mission
Up on the stage is where I’mma get you at
You think I’m losing?
Psst, picture that...

Ain’t no half-steppin’
(3 times)
Mister Cee, step to me...

The name is Big Daddy, you know, as in your father
So when you hear a def rhyme, believe that I’m the author
I grab the mic and make MC’s evaporate
The party people say, damn...that rapper’s great
The creator conductor of poetry
Et cetera, et cetera, it ain’t easy being me
I speak clearly so you can understand
Put words together like letter, man
Now that’s dictation, proceeding to my innovation
Not like the other MC’s, who are an imitation
Or an animation, a cartoon to me
But when I’m finished, I’m sure that you are soon to see
Reality, my secret technique
Because I always speak with mentality
I put my title in your face, dare you to base
And if you try and come get it, yo I’mma show you who’s with it
So if you know like I know, instead of messing around
Play like Roy Rogers and slooow doown
Just give yourself a break, or someone else will take
Your title, namely me, cause I’m homicidal
That means murder, cause I’m about to hurt a-
Nother MC, that try to get with me
I’ll just break him and bake him and rake him
and take him and mold him and make him
Hold up the peace sign...
Assalam Walaikum!

My name ain't Kieth, so could you please stop Sweatin' me

[Chorus 2X: samples from "Still Tippin'"]
"Back then hoes didn't want me, now I'm hot hoes all on me"
"Back then hoes didn't want me, now I'm hot hoes all on me - I
SAID"
"Back then hoes didn't want me, now I'm hot hoes all on me"
"Back then hoes didn't want me, now I'm hot hoes all on me - I
SAID"

[Mike Jones]
Mike Jones!!
Befo' I came up in the game these hoes didn't show no love
They see me in the club and used to treat me like a scrub
They wouldn't holla cause my dollars wasn't swoll enough
I bet they change they mind when them 80 4's come rollin up
They see that I'm a star, now they wanna sit in my car
Now they wanna count my cheese, smoke my weed and sip my bar
now
They used to love to me diss me, now they rush to hug and kiss
me now
They tellin all they friends when I leave how they miss me now
2 8 1, 3 3 0, eight zero zero 4
Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mike Jones about to blow
Befo' the ice was in my grill, befo' I got my major deal
These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was here, shea
Befo' the ice was in my grill, befo' I got my major deal
These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was here, shea
Befo' the ice was in my grill, befo' I got my major deal
These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was here, shea - because

[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
I remember back den, most of them hoes couldn't stand me
But now them same hoes beggin me to pull down they panties
A couple of 'em said I was cute but I was just too chubby
Same size a year later the same hoes wanna f**k me
Because they see me paid, pimpin pens, workin my jelly
And I ain't trippin cause my pockets stick out mo' than my
belly
They know I'm paid, livin laid in the shade
2 slabs in the Escalade with fo' or five estates
Then know that I got it made, I'm a motherf**kin baller
She would want a ***** now but I ain't got no time to call her
I'ma stall her like she stalled me, now she tryin to call me
***** I'ma dog yo' whole *** like you dogged me
I'm Mike Jones, don't act like you don't know the name
Ain't nuttin changed but my change, I'ma stay the same
I'm Mike Jones, don't act like you don't know the name
Ain't nuttin changed but my change, I'ma stay the same

[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
Befo' my paper came, befo' I got my fame
These hoes that's poppin on me now didn't even know my name
They said my flow was lame, they said I had no game
I told 'em all I was fin' to blow they thought I was insane
But then my name started blowin up quick, now they jumpin on my
dick
Cause they see me on the rise and oh now my paper thick
But then my name started blowin up quick, now they jumpin on my
dick
Because they see me on the rise and oh now my paper thick

Makes you want to move for LA or New York and get in the biz. I should have been a studio music major.

as for Mike..I dont like his stuff..actually i dont like any or most of todays stuff..but I do listen to them because i love the bass. (what can i say im a successful loser) im still stuck in the ice cube, dr. dre, snoop, 2 pac, run dmc, eazy e and too short ol skool days..I dont think ive boughten a CD in years since like the late 90s.

I tell you one thing KT is right lyrics dont matter anymore just as long as the beat and bass sound good thats all that matters in todays music....

Southlake Thug- What you know about zero. Do you listen to Trae. When Trae droped that CD Loosing Composure he did that.

KT2000 and Wide-e-Wide what do yo know about me old school joint.

When I was young me and my mama had beef
Seventeen years old kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time, I never thought I'd see her face
Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place
Suspended from school; and scared to go home, I was a fool
with the big boys, breakin all the rules
I shed tears with my baby sister
Over the years we was poorer than the other little kids
And even though we had different daddy's, the same drama
When things went wrong we'd blame mama
I reminice on the stress I caused, it was hell
Huggin on my mama from a jail cell
And who'd think in elementary?
Heeey! I see the penitentiary, one day
And runnin from the police, that's right
Mama catch me, put a whoopin to my backside
And even as a crack fiend, mama
You always was a black queen, mama
I finally understand
for a woman it ain't easy tryin to raise a man
You always was committed
A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it
There's no way I can pay you back
But the plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

[Chorus: Reggie Green & "Sweet Franklin" w/ 2Pac]

Lady...
Don't cha know we love ya? Sweet lady
Dear mama
Place no one above ya, sweet lady
You are appreciated
Don't cha know we love ya?

[second and third chorus, "And dear mama" instead of "Dear mama"]

[Verse Two: 2Pac]

Now ain't nobody tell us it was fair
No love from my daddy cause the coward wasn't there
He passed away and I didn't cry, cause my anger
wouldn't let me feel for a stranger
They say I'm wrong and I'm heartless, but all along
I was lookin for a father he was gone
I hung around with the Thugs, and even though they sold drugs
They showed a young brother love
I moved out and started really hangin
I needed money of my own so I started slangin
I ain't guilty cause, even though I sell rocks
It feels good puttin money in your mailbox
I love payin rent when the rent's due
I hope ya got the diamond necklace that I sent to you
Cause when I was low you was there for me
And never left me alone because you cared for me
And I could see you comin home after work late
You're in the kitchen tryin to fix us a hot plate
Ya just workin with the scraps you was given
And mama made miracles every Thanksgivin
But now the road got rough, you're alone
You're tryin to raise two bad kids on your own
And there's no way I can pay you back
But my plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

[Chorus]

[Verse Three: 2Pac]

Pour out some liquor and I reminsce, cause through the drama
I can always depend on my mama
And when it seems that I'm hopeless
You say the words that can get me back in focus
When I was sick as a little kid
To keep me happy there's no limit to the things you did
And all my childhood memories
Are full of all the sweet things you did for me
And even though I act craaazy
I gotta thank the Lord that you made me
There are no words that can express how I feel
You never kept a secret, always stayed real
And I appreciate, how you raised me
And all the extra love that you gave me
I wish I could take the pain away
If you can make it through the night there's a brighter day
Everything will be alright if ya hold on
It's a struggle everyday, gotta roll on
And there's no way I can pay you back
But my plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

[Chorus]

Sweet lady
And dear mama

Dear mama

Dear mama

FREE PIMP C!!!

"Draped Up" is a ****** song...Bun B blows Mike Jones outta the water.

Gimme some old Michael "5000" Watts and that old Swish House beat.

I'm glad that Paul and Mike have brought some noteriety to the Houston scene, but unfortunately, our best reps (Bun B, etc...) still sit in the background.

All anyone knows UGK for is their cameo in "Big Pimpin'"

Harm me with harmony
Dave drop a load on 'em
OPP, how can I explain it
I'll take you frame by frame it
To have y'all jumpin' shall we singin' it
O is for Other, P is for People scratchin' temple
The last P...well...that's not that simple
It's sorta like another way to call a cat a kitten
It's five little letters that are missin' here
You get on occassion at the other party
As a game 'n it seems I gotta start to explainin'
Bust it
You ever had a girl and met her on a nice hello
You get her name and number and then you feelin' real mellow
You get home, wait a day, she's what you wanna know about
Then you call up and it's her girlfriend or her cousin's house
It's not a front, F to the R to the O to the N to the T
It's just her boyfriend's at her house (Boy, that's what is scary)
It's OPP, time other people's what you get it
There's no room for relationship there's just room to hit it
How many brothers out there know just what I'm gettin' at
Who thinks it's wrong 'cos I'm splittin' and co-hittin' at
Well if you do, that's OPP and you're not down with it
But if you don't, here's your membership

Public Enemy

Night of the Living Base heads

Here it is
Bammm
And you say, *******
This is the dope jam
But lets define the term called dope
And you think it mean funky now, no
Here is a true tale
Of the ones that deal
Are the ones that fail
Yeah
You can move if you wanna move
What it prove
It's here like the groove
The problem is this - we gotta' fix it
Check out the justice - and how they run it
Sellin', smellin'
Sniffin', riffin'
And brothers try to get swift an'
Sell to their own, rob a home
While some shrivel to bone
Like comatose walkin' around
Please don't confuse this with the sound
I'm talking about...bass

I put this together to...
Rock the bells of those that
Boost the dose
Of lack a lack
And those that sell to black
Shame on a brother when he dealin'
The same block where my 98 be wheelin'
And everybody know
Another kilo
From a corner from a brother to keep another -
Below
Stop illin' and killin'
Stop grillin'
Yo, black, yo (we are willin')
4, 5 o'clock in the mornin'
Wait a minute y'all
The fiends are fiendin'
Day to day they say no other way
This stuff...
Is really bad
I'm talkin' 'bout...bass

Yo, listen
I see it on their faces
(first come first serve basis)
Standin' in line
Checkin' the time
Homeboys playin' the curb
The same ones that used to do herb
Now they're gone
Passin' it on
Poison attack - the black word bond
Daddy-o
Once said to me
He knew a brother who stayed all day in his jeep
And at night he went to sleep
And in the mornin' all he had was
The sneakers on his feet
The culprit used to jam and rock the mike, yo
He stripped the jeep to fill his pipe
And wander around to find a place
Where they rocked to a different kind of...bass

Brass Monkey - that funky Monkey
Brass Monkey - junkie
That funky Monkey

Got this dance that's more than real
Drink Brass Monkey - here's how you feel
Put your left leg down - your right leg up
Tilt your head back - let's finish the cup
M.C.A. with the bottle - D. rocks the can
Adrock gets nice with Charlie Chan
We're offered Moet - we don't mind Chivas
Wherever we go with bring the Monkey with us
Adrock drinks three - Mike D. is D.
Double R. foots the bill most definitely
I drink Brass Monkey and I rock well
I got a Castle in Brooklyn - that's where I dwell

I could be wrong but I think Mike went to B.T. Washington..Pall says what school he went to in one of his songs.

I have to catch up on some work, but KT2000 and Wide...TRUST me...I will be back in this thread with some old school stuff that will blow your mind.

One of my favorites:

puffin on lye
hopin that it gets me high
gotta ni**a goin krazy
i feel krazy

/chorus/
time goes by
puffin on lye
hopin that it gets me high
gotta ni**a goin krazy
i feel krazy

last year was a hard one
but life goes on
bumpin my head against the wall
learned the right
from wrong
they say my
ghetto instumental
detramental to kids
as if they can't see
the misery
in which they live
blame me for the outcome
bann my records
check it
you don't have to bump this
but please respect it
i took a minus
and now the hard times
are behind us
turn it to a plus
now they stuck
livin blinded
hennessey
got me feelin bad
time to stop drinkin
rollin in my
drop-top jag
what's that cop thinkin
sittin in my car
watchin the stars
and smoke
i came a long way but
still i got so
far to go
dear momma
don't woory
i'm a watch
for snakes
tell Satch
that i love her
but its hard today
i got her letter
that she sent me
and i cried for weeks
this what came out
when i tried to spek
all i heard was

/chorus/(x2)

i see bloods and crips
runnin up the hill
lookin for a better way
my brothers and sisters
it's time to bail
even thug ni**as pray
hopin god hear me
i've entered the game
look how much
i changed
i;m no longer innocent
casualties and fame
made a lot of money
seen a lot of places
and i swear
i seen a peaceful smile
on my momma's face
when i gave her the keys
to her own house
shown her
how her only son
done became a man
watchin the city
i love my people
do or die
but i wonder why
we scared to let
eachother fly
june 1-6-7-1 (june 16,'71)
the day
momma push me out her womb
told me ni**a get paid
noone can understand me
the black sheep
outcasted from my family
now packin heat
i run the streets
a young runaway
i live for the day
when i die
i can hear 'em say

/chorus/

god help me out here
cause i'm possesed
i need the
root of all evil
for my stress
cause moneys like
a strong perscription drug
it's got me addicted
to the pleasure and pain
it inflicts
somethin about the paper
and the pictures
of the presidents
dead
damn its like
a mutha f**kin plague
that spread
it's epidemic forgotten
forgotten it got worse
i keep my head on striaght
makin money
cause this curse
makin money makes a diffrence
day by day
so i gotta stay
paid no doubt
day in and day out
this life is like
a vision cycle
called fightin to live
no matter how hard you try
some day you gotta die
a lot of my peers
didn't make it
through the years
to come
still life do 'em
right or did like
we done
who has the answers i wonder
turn to my elders
the aged and experienced
but they can't
even tell ya
or tell me
that they'll be
light at the end of the road
(why?)cause they
don't even know
a million thangs
run throuhg my mind
you ain't gotta be
in jail to be
doin time

/chorus/(x4)
