Anybody care to take a shot at a top ten in 4A for the coming season? I haven't done much research and I usually don't until DC comes out in the summer. I know Longview will be good. My Jackets should be in there IMO.
Get after it!

Only one not in north Texas?
We'll see early on if Lake Travis is rebuilding or reloading since they play Westlake and Cedar Park.
Is La Marque still 4A? How are they supposed to look? Lamar Consolidated?

I hear LaMarque is reloaded and back on the scene.

I see them more. But I wouldn't call either Abilene or Cibolo North Texas.
Lake Travis lost a lot, and by that I mean Gilbert.
La Marque should be good and I wouldn't be surprised to see them making a run in the playoffs.

Cibolo is the one non-north Texas team on your list that I pointed out.
Abilene is pretty much even with DFW on I20, so I lumped them in.

Yeah I guess you could look at it that way. I have always thought of them more in West Texas, and would lump them in with Odessa and Midland.
Teams that should be looked at:

Dayton

I think Frenship's year was last. They should be good again but losing the QB, top receiver, and monster lineman will be hard to replace.

Nobody gave em a shot in hell last year, but they ended up with a 13-1 record. They just reload, not rebuild.

I remember them being on a several top 20 preseason polls last year. I would think they should be there again this year but they won't be as good as they were last year. They have gone 3 or 4 deep several years now and should make it to the regional round. But don't see them beating Denton Ryan or Guyer this year.

Denton Ryan? Eh, I'd put Guyer up there before I'd put Ryan.
I still don't know 4A enough to do a complete top 10. I have absolutely no idea who are the top teams down South. I'd assume LT will still be a pretty good team. I heard LaMarque was still in a rebuilding stage, but maybe that's wrong.
Should be a fun year. Guyer is going to be dark horse pick this year IMO. They really impressed me last season.

Scotty Young coming back after throwing for 4500 yards and 65 TD's last year. Florence returning that much firepower will be tough. They only lost to Frenship by 3 in the regional round. Guyer is losing more so the roles will be reversed this year.

Evidently, in trouble if Lake Dallas, Guyer, and Ryan are all Top 10 teams from their district!:D
I don't think Rider will be as good this year, but they still recruit the best kids in town and won't be bad.

They should be in the playoffs and could be the 3 or 4 seed. But I can't see them going past the 2nd round.

We need some region 4 teams on the top 10. For the past few years the 4A state champion's toughest games in the playoffs have been from region 4 (austin lake travis included)

Rider was a very senior-laden squad last year. Beaver, Ward, Thompson, and alot others are gone from that team.

Pearland Dawson has the most athletic backfield in the state. I think they still have an issue with offensive and defensive line depth but they can still make teams look silly with all that speed. Keep an eye on them.

Most athletic in the state? That's a pretty bold statement to make in a state the size of Texas with the kind of athletes we have.

Is this a joke? I mean, if you want, I'll upload a series of plays that took place in the 07 Longview @ Lufkin game and we can let the public decide who has refs on their side at home.
Longview is winning 13-9 with about a minute left in the game and they get a first down. Called back for a phantom holding call. They overcome and get the first down AGAIN and ANOTHER phantom holding call happens (both of these flags were thrown after the first down yardage was made as well). If anyone can find the holding in either of these plays, I'll send them a game of my collection that they choose. The next play, an obvious pass interference goes uncalled and LP easily intercepts the ball because the receiver got knocked down before the ball got there. LP scores 2 plays later. It was one of the biggest shams I've ever seen and it was a joke of a game.
If you can find any play from a Longview-Lufkin game in Longview (and both from the past 2 years are on youtube in their entirety, so feel free), I'd love to see it.
I think that this is just bitterness coming from a sore LP fan. I mean, whining about sprinklers, ice, etc. was part of it too. And the cheerleaders wouldn't sell me a program at the LP-Cy Ridge game at Kyle Field this year either because I was wearing a Longview shirt.

Yeah, you weren't at that game. It was a freaking joke. You'd have been PISSED if you saw it. I know I was.
Speaking of which, I got a copy of that Lufkin game. And the Carter, North Mesquite, Mesquite, Mesquite Horn and Marshall games from that year as well if you'd like any of them.
I'm leaving town tomorrow, though, so it's gotta be quick.

The phantom offside called by the Longview graduate that was refering the game. Longview had fourth and 1 got stuffed really really late flag by the guy . Hey man I got tons of them the late hit called against Lufkin when guy was still 2 yards from sidelines. It is a known fact you play in East texas you gotta beat the team and the refs. Happens in Lufkin, Tyler with Tyler Lee not so much John Tyler and Longview is famous for it. Don'y yank my chain. I am rooting for Longview anytime they are not playing Lufkin. I am just saying it will be hard for Allen to beat Longview in Longview because Longview will get the calls that are close.

.500?? Really?? Considering they SPANKED Waller 49-24 last year and Brenham returns the house I'd say they should be favored.
Friendswood will be waayyy down losing Karam....
Lamar Cons. will be tough but with Brenham having as much back as they do I'd feel good about their chances.
LaMarque??? They are not what they used to be...3-6 last year
Texas City see LaMarque expect TC was 5-5..
Brenham went 3 deep last year playing sophs and juniors they had a freshman starting all year at LB this team will be good.

They will have a very, very good defense with one of the, if not the best defensive lines in the State with tons of size and speed throughout the defense. The defensive line sports at least 2 div1 players. They also have a linebacker that'll be a Jr that in all likelyhood will be a div1 player.
They return 1/2 of the offensive line, a big & fast wide receiver in Sheldon McClain that will be a Sr and verbally committed to Blow U last week. The running back, Malcolm Brown will be a Jr and is right now listed on Rivals as the 2011 #1 prospect in the State (for good reason). The key to this team is to find a QB who can step up and just do the job. He won't have to win games, just limit the mistakes and get the ball to McClain through the air once in a while and hand off to the horse and watch him run over people.
This team has a lot coming back and even without Brown at running back last year in the playoffs against Lake Travis, they still controlled that game in the 1st half. If he would have been healthy and able to play, there were several times in the game where LT made some arm tackles on Steele's running backs when Malcolm would have broken away for some long TD runs.
I believe this team has a chance to come together and be playing in week 16!

La marque offensive line is huge....la marque has 3 running backs who are very explosive, la marques qb is very nice. LA MARQUE WILL SURPRISE ALOT OF PEOPLE. i dont know where these linemen came from but they look like Dickinsons line last year, Shortest person is 6'3 center no one under 290. SMH A sophmore running back who as a freshamn ran for 1200 yards.
