Can someone help me fill in some blanks I have about district next season.

Katy- returns big time players in Fuda and Dean. I expect the Tigers to be in the Region III semi-finals in 06, which would be a down season for them. Don't get me wrong, they have the potential to get past the region III semi's at Rice Stadium, actually I'm sure they will.
Katy Taylor- Never that great. May have an upset but main role is usually ruining other people's playoff dreams.
Cinco Ranch- down year last year after breakthrough year in 04...I guess they should be back up.
Mayde Creek- ?
Aleif Taylor- down year this year will they be back up?
Elsik- loss of almost everybody made this season not so good.
Hastings- made playoffs in 05 before losing to Kempner in the first round...will they be as good or better in 06?
Morton Ranch- I heard the spartans are going to put together a varsity squad with juniors like cinco did.
Strake Jesuit- loses key players who led strake to dream season in 05 but returns majority of offensive line, rising star jr WR who caught game winning TD in upset over Marshall and a row of 2 returning RB's and 2 way WR/DB star in Texas Longhorn football player brother Moses Ogbonnaya.

Playoffs: Katy, Elsik, Cinco Ranch
Dark Horses: Strake Jesuit, Aleif Taylor

or wait, is this the year 4 teams can get in the playoffs?

Is 19-5A going to remain intact?

No telling! The only sure thing is the Katy schools will be together, as will the Alief schools. If these two stay together (not a definite), that would make eight teams. Strake Jesuit could stay in as a nine team district or go anywhere in the Houston area. Who knows, they might be in 4A. We'll find out in February.

I believe Morton Ranch will have a senior class next year.

Morton Ranch will have a Senior class next year and will have all varsity sports.

I think you are confusing Morton Ranch with Seven Lakes. Seven Lakes is the spartans and will only have juniors next year.

Katy Taylor- Never that great. May have an upset but main role is usually ruining other people's playoff dreams. I wonder how good these guys coulda been since their best QB prospect attended Strake instead of Taylor? They are not a strong finishing team. They get outcoached in the 2nd half.

Cinco Ranch- down year last year after breakthrough year in 04...I guess they should be back up. Don Clayton is a good coach and will have his boys playing better next season with more experience.

Mayde Creek- Coach is a great guy. He needs to step down so they can get someone to light a fire under their players' arses. I mean, this school made it to the quarter finals in '97. Hello, Creek, where are you?!

Elsik- loss of almost everybody made this season not so good. These guys were mostly juniors and sophomores. They have great team speed and with more varsity experience should make the playoffs.

Morton Ranch- I heard the spartans are going to put together a varsity squad with juniors like cinco did. They are the Mavericks. Seven Lakes is the Spartans. It's always interesting to watch a teams inaugural season. How good will they be? Check with us next November.

Not only is this the 4 team playoff year(?) but we have re-alignment coming up in February. I heard that Strake is going back to TAPPS.:p

Now ktcarl, a well informed football mind like you should know that strake was never in TAPPS. they were in the TCIL, it disbanded, dallas jesuit and strake jesuit were denied entrance into TAPPS for their monopoly over state championship trophies in the TCIL, played independent for 3 years, admitted into the UIL.
But what I did actually hear is that strake would be playing in the weaker 5A district composed of Memorial, Stratford, etc.
And about Katy Taylor on your post, are you talking about Tim Bandy? Because he doesn't look too much like a 5A quarterback. His older brother, Mike, was the QB for Strake during their second to last year of independent play leading them to an 8-3 season with an upset win over Bay City and wins over Jasper, Waller and Dallas Jesuit. Tim got the job when Texas WR commit went down versus Bay City playing QB. He was a sophomore. I do believe that if Bandy went to Taylor he'd play DB or something.

Well, it sounded good until you corrected me but it was just a good natured ribbing from yours truly.
Speaking of the weaker S.B.I.S.D., Katy was aligned with those schools during their '97 State Title. I hope we stay with the Alief schools because they have more talented rosters and they can get you ready for play-off teams that have good speed. I'm also hoping Katy plays a Cy-Fair school for one of their non-district games. I want to sit in that new stadium that's being built for the Cy schools. Drive North on Barker-Cypress towards 290 and take a look at it. Very impressive.
You may be right about Bandy but he did looked better than the K.Taylor QB.

As long as Bill Lane is HC at Katy Taylor, they will get outcoached in every second half, first half, warmup, coin toss and film session.

Morton Ranch will beat Katy Taylor in 2006 with coaching. The Mavericks have a sharp coach in James Shewmake and after a successful year with sophomores in 2004, took all their best offensvie athletes on defense, wising up from example in the district of how to win ball games.

Hard to say Cinco had a down year when they lost their starting QB almost the whole year and his backup half the year, then lost 2 starting centers, 1 starting tailback and had to turn their best D-lineman into a center just to snap the ball. They still went 4-5, beat Strake to end the Crusaders' perfect season, played Katy tough for a half (0-14) and would have beat Hastings had the Bears' principal not run and hid like a little girl when it came time to vote on make-up games.

Mayde Creek's administration has no interest in producing winning athletic teams. Most of its coaches have been there at least 15 years and are just drawing time til retirement. Unless they produce another class like the one that had Fagan, Benning, Owmby, Herrmann, etc., they'll never make the playoffs.

Mayde Creek and Taylor are both disaster areas from the front office on down when it comes to athletics.

I like your post, but I would give the K-Taylor coach a 50-50 chance on the coin toss.

So if it is, in fact, 4 teams to make the playoffs; I realisticlly say Katy, Elsik, Cinco Ranch and Strake Jesuit make the playoffs.
My reasoning:
Katy- nuff said
Elsik- returns almost everyone after being down in 05.
Cinco Ranch- returns talented squad that showed an 06 preview late in the 05 season.
Strake Jesuit- returns big time players from 05 dream season.

Dark Horse:
Katy Taylor- come on, they're returning almost everyone.

19-5A looks stronger than 05 but definenlty not as strong as 04. Hastings was up last year and maybe they can do it again. Alief Taylor was down last year but return many for the 06 season.

It's my understanding that Seven Lakes will play 4A varsity football the next two years.

I have heard SL is playing 4a until they get seniors, just like MR did. Katy's JV won district in 195a but that is also with all JV's missing their best players that got moved up. MC will have Turner who can determine a whole game if you don't contain him. The district will be better next year than it was this year. MR runs a spread I believe, so that will be a game for getting experience against that kind of offense.

Morton Ranch was originally going to be 4a last year, but ended up in 5a. They played Pearland, A&M Consolidated, and some other schools. The only KISD school they played in football was Mayde Creek. They did not play varsity, they usually played either sophmore or jv teams.

Well, did anyone see Morton Ranch play this past season? Are they going to field a respectable team for their first Varsity season? Somebody throw me a bone.

Morton Ranch could be a dark horse...They have a great coach and are running a spread, which is different for the district. Hard to say what kind of athletes they have, but it looks like they could win a few games this year.

They should be getting some good players in the zones they draw from. I think Morton Ranch will be very good eventually if the coach is as good as people say, and the community gets behind the program. They should bring in good talent.

I thought Cinco Ranch ran the Spread or a version of it.

so did I ktcarl, I tihnk it was most effective in 04 starring austin morgan. But the real threat was that on any play Quito Teasley could get the ball and when there's an above avg running game, play action is lethal and thats what the cougars did so well until they ran into katy, strake and kempner.

Morton Ranch employs the spread with a running QB, which Cinco Ranch has never done. The Morgan and Spitzer before him were both plodders.
