even though this question was posted too early, ill answer it anyway. i want slc to win state. but i think lufkin will be too much to handle for the young slc squad next year.

I also feel Lufkin should be the favorite to win state. But we were also the favorite to win state in 03 and we joined the one and done club. That off-season had to be the worst in Lufkin History. Everyday we heard One and Done if you dont want it get out. We responded and gave our best effort to win state but came up short against SLC in 04. I hope they can bring this one back to the Piney Woods next season.

7 on 7 is clearly not an indicator of who will win state. My point is that there will be increased interest among the Southlake fans this summer, as we are reloading our receiving corps and have a new QB. Re-alignment, IMO, does'nt effect the top tier teams..they win in any dsitrict alignment.

Thats why Lufkin fired Slaughter. All-State RB was the best in the state that year and Lufkin struggled to finish 7-5-1. Denvis Manns went on to New Mexico State and rushed for over 1,000 yards every season throughout his career. Only 6 Div 1A athletes have accomplished that. So I am proud that Denvis Manns was one of them to bad Lane crushed every record he set in Lufkin except the single game rushing record (306).

I wish there was a map that showed where the boundries were for the 4 regions. I sure R1 and R4 are vast geographically.
D1 & D2 is more difficult to predict with 4 teams per district in po's. Ther will be even more last game shuffling of brackets.

I think the 2006 State Champions will be a team on the list, although there some great programs missing; SV, Longview, North Shore etc. However there are so many unknown variables; UIL Realignment, 64 teams in both Divisions, Retuning players, Prospect players from JV, coaching changes etc.
However, this is the great benefit of this forum - as fans we can debate this and share information which means we can speculate and once we have some solid facts we can make an unbiased reasoned choice.

yes he caused our best player Daniel Palmer to get hurt for the season by moving him from running back and making him play fullback we could have used DP against Trinity reason Dimitri Nance would of had some compo in the ground game.
But the funny thing is some of our Freshmen and J.V. players where better then some of the players on Varsity

The offense will be loaded next year as everybody knows but the defense does lose a lot but return several key starters. They return their 2 best defensive lineman in R Murphy and AJ Penson, They lose all of their lb's except one in Cam Davis who really looked good when he got his shot in the playoffs, The secondary will return cb Landry cb Terry (came up from jv to start in the playoffs and was impressive) and Joe Jackson who i expect will be Lufkin's safety next year. He is a great tackler and a good coverage guy. I hear Lufkin has a lot of good defensive players coming up. Lufkin should be right there again next year.

I agree and to be honest I think the Playoff Rivalry started this year between SLC and Plano was shortlived.
Due to realignment and adding 2 and 2 to the district Plano will certainly go Big School next year leaving Allen, West, FM and Lewisville to duke it out for D2.
Plano vs. Jusdon next year for D1 State Title.

SLC build out is 30,160; they are at 25,000 now. The high school (9-12) is anticpated to hit 2680-2800 in the next 5-7 years. I don't think other growth will surpass you for at least 10 years.

Not actually. Longview fans know the next year will be up in the air. Lobos will basically have to field a completely new team next year, on both sides of the ball. Their success will depend on how fast the teams can gel. Although this past year was prolly the best chance to beat LP, they'll have a much tougher road ahead, even if it happens next year. Southlake Carroll, Lufkin, Katy, A&M Consolidated, Garland, North Shore, San Antonio O'Connor and Cy Falls are some teams that have caught my attention with what they have back as well as what's on the way up.
Go ahead and throw Judson and Smithson Valley (if 5A) in there also. Judson, Smithson Valley, Carroll and Katy seem to be in the same boat each year these days. It doesn't seem to matter who graduates because they just reload.
Southlake Carroll lost arguably the best QB-RB tandem in school history only to follow up with another state title, and the school's most potent air attack. Katy lost a 2,400 yard rusher (James Aston) after the 2004 season and many didn't think the Tigers would contend this year without him. The Katy offense went on to break or tie 19 school records on the way to a 14-1 season. People said Judson couldn't contend without Kyle Fox, and they went to state anyway. Smithson Valley just produces sound football teams every year under Coach Hill.

Okay admins. You officially have your state champ pick for next year. Let's see if you can keep the streak going and see if Lufkin can handle the pressure.

I do think Lufkin will win state next year, but I also thought we had the talent the past few years too. But we have not been able to beat one little team from Southlake. (hat's off to them...) But Lufkin has had a good run,,,
State Champions in 2001,
Semi-Finals in 2002, 2004, 2005
(64-8) not a bad run and we will be stronger next three years...

you have a golden opporunity next year in lufkin. with all that talent coming back, and that one little roadblock looking down next year, next year is as good a time as any to go state and win.

yeah i agree...well southlake has like 2 dodge and newton with the expirence..so their offense might be a little bumpy the first couple games but they will be the dragons everybody knows by the middle of the season. lukin seems to be getting better each year. so we will have a great time looking up after them in 'o6.
i wouldnt be surprised if they beat the dragons in the playoffs :p

The offense will be loaded next year as everybody knows but the defense does lose a lot but return several key starters. They return their 2 best defensive lineman in R Murphy and AJ Penson, They lose all of their lb's except one in Cam Davis who really looked good when he got his shot in the playoffs, The secondary will return cb Landry cb Terry (came up from jv to start in the playoffs and was impressive) and Joe Jackson who i expect will be Lufkin's safety next year. He is a great tackler and a good coverage guy. I hear Lufkin has a lot of good defensive players coming up. Lufkin should be right there again next year.
yeah the whole o-line is coming back (go #71) and our offense will be loaded...our d will be fine...cam davis will be great next year..and we have a freshman coming up Jamarcus Macfarland...he's good..he's big...all in all if we dont win state...i will be suprised ...good luck to everyone next season!

Seriously Southlake winning state? There whole team is seniors except for Newton who honestly is not even that great, hes able to break long runs because he defense's he plays drop all their backs to stop the pass.
Don't get me wrong this isn't some rag on southlake cause we got beat by them post, this is all true. Its all about PLANO going all the way, we got a better running back and quarterback this year not to mention an amazing O/D Line...
D2 or D1-Plano...

If you look at the results Carroll does not have the most votes. They have almost half as many votes as Lufkin. If you read this thread you would find that many Carroll posters have voted for Lufkin.
With that said, it is a pretty safe vote to say Carroll. They have won three of the last four championships and been to four straight finals. There were no contributors on the 2005 dragons that were contributors on the 2002 dragons. Just because they do not return that many people - 1 on offense, 4/5 on defense it does not mean that they will not be successful.

Hey, I voted for Lufkin..but we'll see what happens in the fall..who knows? Carroll has proven they can re-load with the best of them..3 state titles in 4 years with 3 different QB's...

Southlake Carroll probably will make a serious run again.. they just reload and they have R. Dodge at the QB.
Lufkin will also make some noise...

It is very difficult to make such a prediction so early in the year, but there is no harm in fans engaging in some playful forecasting and predictions. I agree with many of the posters. Lufkin does appear to have a solid foundation of retuning Juniors, coupled with a very strong and enduring program. The extra team entering the play-offs in D1 will also make for some interesting match-ups; as we will probably see some of the D2 powerhouses now in D1 - SLC for example.
My January 2006 forecast, for which I reserve the change my opinion at any time in the future following the submission of this post, are D1 North Shore: and D2 Lufkin.

Seeing teams like Pflugerville and The Woodlands on this list makes me laugh. I just tell it like it is and i'm telling you, i think we can easily beat both of those teams next year. Two years ago and Last year were Pflugervilles "teams" that were supposed to take them somewhere. Well they both had the same results losing in the 2nd round. And we've beaten them 3 out of the last 4 years for district (i know, its a point i use very often). And i've always thought The Woodlands was one of the most overrated teams of all time.

we're gonna be the team that surprises everyone like we did this year by making it to the semifinals,we got unanimous as a sophmore rb palmer back, all district reciever lewis who nearly had 1000 recieving yards, and the #1 kicker in the nation szymanski, and a defense that returns many that shut down antwann cobb, donald buckram, ryan montague and more, look out for us

OK this is getting nauseating. They gave up half of their school and they still have a 1,000 more then school's like Lufkin. Come on rock do not use that as an excuse.

SV is taking it all, couple of setbacks this past season, but now they have what they have been lacking, and will surprise a lot of people, which would have to be win state, and that is what will happen. Going to be nice...

SV must have some serious talent on the way up for you to make that statement zippy. I don't doubt that SV can reload with the best of them. They are one of those programs where returning players really don't seem to matter as much. That said, SV must replace a very talented senior class that's graduating. The losses on defense are the biggest in my opinion.
However, SV has a very good program and I won't be surprised to see them play into December again this Fall.

Forget about the polls. The top teams will be exposed early on. Consolidated is playing Katy, Phlugerville, and Austin Westlake in the begginning of thier season, if they comeout ahead in those games then they will clearly be the top team.

Looking at who has the largest number of blue chip players returning, I say Berkner has to be the early favorite. How did that program all of a sudden grow legs overnight?

they lost a great chance last year when qb johnson broke his jaw. they would have given et a great game had it occurred. they may be a flash in the pan, esp if their coach gets a big opportunity to move up. if he stays, watch for them to stick. they got a taste last year, and have the players to do it again.
I'm riding with Northshore.....they always have talent and after the past two seasons where the cruised through the regular season and folded once they got to the playoffs and someone put up a fight, I think they will do the same regular season wise, then shift into high gear and play like they are possesed when the playoffs come around and there will be no Westfield.

you need to read before spouting off. his comment was that you predict that winning those 3 games would prove you were the best(anywhere, or in that area, or between those 4 teams?). you would certainly move up in the rankings with 3 wins vs those teams.

Yeah, Cove is 4A. This poll was probably made pre alignment.
Consolidated does play a tough non-district without a doubt, and they have a chance to make an early statement because of that.
However, champions aren't crowned in September/October.

Oh noooooooo. Return of the T82's.  Ease up newbie. Consol will be good but you will find out real quick that you don't just jump in here and start spewing trash just because your team has a chance to go far or win it all. We have seen many come in here and start talking trash once their team started doing good and then when they were put out of the playoffs they disappear. Good luck this year. Oh and stick around win or lose.

I dont know about folded as being the correct word... NS is always a contender... and always in the top 5 mentioned as realistically having a good chance of bringing home the hardware..... however, they have lost to some pretty good teams in the playoffs .. IKE a couple of times(in their heyday), madison led vincent young, a high calibur westfield team twice....they probably should have won a few of those losses.. but hey... being up there and getting over the top every year is tough.... I really like NS chances this year because they have so many players returning and all district players as well.... QB will be the question mark but i dont see them having any problem with fizer.. in fact.. i think fizer will make them even more dangerous than they were last year..... so hopefully with NS reloading they will at least win the region... and after that... its anybodys title up for grabs....
