I tried to make my point in a light-hearted way. What I was trying to say was Racism is Racism is Racism. Anyone can do it and no matter who does it, it's wrong. I was also trying to say that just because someone is making fun of Obama does not automatically make that person a racist. When someone made fun of Bush, were they automatically labeled a Racist? If not, then why is someone making fun of Obama automatically labeled a Racist. And I am not refering to the pig joke. Even the newscasters are complaining that it is hard to say something negative about the president because as soon as they do, people start complaining about them being Racist. He's the president. He is not going to be correct 100% of the time. When he is wrong, we have to be able to call him on it without having to fear we will be labeled a Racist because of our criticism. That term is so vastly overused now that I, for one, am tired of hearing it. We need to be careful of how we use that term or it could very easily spark a backlash and we don't need that.

I received the texts from 4 or 5 people last week and blew it off. i didn't think the joke was that funny. In all honesty, I think the joke is shallow and simplistic. if I had a kid or loved one that had suffered due to the Swine Flu virus, I would be much more inclined to chastise whomever told me the joke. Racial divisiveness never crossed my mind, but then again, I'm not seeking it out either...:cool:

Personally, I think you dealt with Phoenix rather harshly, perhaps out of necessity or maybe out of anger. Either way, I don't think his actions called for a permanent ban. But then again, that isn't up to me. All I can do is hope that those with authority over me act with indifference and patience, as that is all we can do when under another man's law.

I tried to make my point in a light-hearted way. What I was trying to say was Racism is Racism is Racism. Anyone can do it and no matter who does it, it's wrong. I was also trying to say that just because someone is making fun of Obama does not automatically make that person a racist. When someone made fun of Bush, were they automatically labeled a Racist? If not, then why is someone making fun of Obama automatically labeled a Racist. And I am not refering to the pig joke. Even the newscasters are complaining that it is hard to say something negative about the president because as soon as they do, people start complaining about them being Racist. He's the president. He is not going to be correct 100% of the time. When he is wrong, we have to be able to call him on it without having to fear we will be labeled a Racist because of our criticism. That term is so vastly overused now that I, for one, am tired of hearing it. We need to be careful of how we use that term or it could very easily spark a backlash and we don't need that.

I have no problem with someone disagreeing with the president. However, the joke was distasteful and clearly had racial undertones.

I was saying that if a white person says anything negative about Obama that he is labeled a racist. That's wrong. He's my president too. If I wish to say something negative about him, that does not automatically make me a racist. Gee did you hear some of the comments about Bush from the black population? Was every bit of that racist also? Or is that different because one is a white man saying something about a black (actually half-black) man while the other one is a black man saying something about a white man? My wife says the same thing when she does something she didn't want me to do earlier. I want to spend money to make the car look nice. She says I'm wasting money. She then turns around and buys flowers for the house to make it look nice. I ask her if that isn't wasting money too. She replys that no it's different when she does it. It's ok for her to do it, but not for me to do it.

Phoenix has been on or over the edge a lot lately in other threads..IMO the mods do a good job in situations that can get pretty childish at times.
