Me and a couple friends are building a party barge for a party that will be happening late June. It will be out on Lake Travis. Most of the people on this party barge will be UT Alum scattered in with some T-Shirt fans like myself. The theme of the boat will of course be The University of Texas... from the paint job to the accessories. My job is to get a sponsor from a place like Jason's Deli for some food. How would one go about doing this. I know I need to go to speak to a manager but what should I say or how should I go about doing this?
On another note... if any of you fine men or women would like sponsor this party and have your company name on a giant banner that will be hanging from the top story of the boat feel free to let me know. We'll be renting it out the rest of the summer also. Eventually we'd like to have 2 or 3 party barges in our name... which is TBD... we're thinking Longhorn Boats as of now.

I'll be a sponsor if the double T of Texas Tech could be on my banner:D

Get Budweiser.
We have a friend that works for Coors. He has some Coors banners that have UT logos and what not on them... he'll also be supplying the beer... but we have some bud light girls already lined up.

But in all seriousness, you have to obviously meet with a manager, but show up with a proposal down to the very last detail. Tell them your plan to be successful, customers you plan to have, number of people wanting to see it, etc.
I did a project in english and we had meeting with people to try and get "sponsorships" and what not, and that is some of the main things they look for.

If you're being serious that wouldn't be a problem at all. We'll put it next to your company name.

Awesome... I was thinking of making a brochure with a generic picture of a party barge with all the details in it. So I think I was heading in the right direction. I wonder if naming off some high profile names might entice them even more also. If you have more ideas let me know... it would be mucho appreciated.

like d08 said, you want to give them a legitimate reason to sponsor you. They want to make money.

Make sure you explain HOW it is beneficial to them and give them exact specifics. You have to have a business model in place before they want to help you.
Possibly bring another person or two with you, so you can show there are many of you "educated" on the subject, etc.

I would not do that.:p
But my advice is pick out a few of the area restaurants and make an appointment with the managers. Have your presentation down. No hesitations! The most important thing is a firm handshake and look them in the eye. It bugs the heck out of me to have a business meeting with someone with a wimpy handshake and no eye contact. It makes me not trust them.
Contact the adult beverage people as well as soft drink distributors.
Good luck on your endeavor:)
