Sorry, but these pro contracts are getting more and more ridiculous all the time! It's no wonder so many fans can't afford to go watch their favorite teams. They're having to charge so much to watch them so they can pay these exorbitant salaries! :(

yet... the NFL is still more profitable than say...the auto industry.
Teams will pay what the market will bear, and the market hasn't told the NFL, "Enough is enough" yet.

It's not the money. Just wondering why the Lions would want to pay that much for Stafford. Is he that good? I mean, how much better was he than say someone like Nick Foles coming out of High School? Not suggesting that somebody draft Nick Foles out of nowhere. But is he that much better than somebody they could have picked up in the 3rd, maybe even the 4th round for a fraction of what they payed? It's crazy.

Rookie contracts are ridiculous. There is no way a player with no prior experience should come in and make that kind of money before taking a snap. What incentive do players have to perform when they're made men before they even step in a huddle? Not much.
I don't know what kind of NFL QB Stafford will be. His career at Georgia was less than stellar.

This. MF'ing This.
Mike Bobo was a bad thing for Matt Stafford. Stafford always impressed me more in warmups than he did in game situations and that was due to the limited play calling we saw out of Bobo the past two years.

It's the market and not common sense that dictates rookie salaries. Consider the fact that it's Detroit whose economy is bordering on 3rd world status, magnifies this even more.
