Well, I'm still a fan of the old school, smashmouth style of football. I really do like the spread offenses but, there's nothing like lining up and running the ball down somebodies throat until they're, basically, ready to tap out. I was just sitting around thinking to myself, who would I like to see in the same backfield, running the wishbone, veer, or Flex. Well, here's who I'd like to see in the same backfield;

Quarterback; Reggie McNeal, Lufkin;
Reggie could throw with the best QBs, and he could also run with the best WRs and RBs. Perfect!

Fullback; Dexter Butler, Vernon:D;
Look, Dexter was bigger than alot of lineman, and could run thru you, and AWAY from you! Dexter could've very well been the next coming of Earl Campbell. I have witnesses that can attest to this!;)

Right halfback or, right wingback; Earl Campbell, John Tyler;
I don't even think I need to say why!

Left halfback or, left wingback; Eric Dickerson, Sealy;
Eric and Earl were both ahead of their time! Just like Earl, Eric could play in any era, and give folks the business.

And, you gotta have a split end to keep the defenses honest! He also has to be able to block, as well as have a nice set of hands along with the speed. Not to mention, he has to be a good utility person that can be used at wingback, and probably QB. Hmmm....Bert Emanuel sounds good!

Okay! Y'all's turn!:D

If you're a fan of old school football, go see College Park. We have our QB and 3 very good RB's (running and receiving) coming back for this season. With all that experience and a conscious effort late last season to utilize Parsons' arm as well as his feet, our option offense should be a lot of fun to watch this year.

The spread is tired and old, not to mention borderline illegal the way it's officiated in Texas. It does not make good players better which is a waste.

To begin, I have scabs that just fell off from Dexter Butler and it's been 16 years! There's your affirmation. That cat was sick.

Second, I have no idea if he could catch or throw but I got two words for you split end/utilitey guy:

Billy Sims

Hmmm! I plan on taking some trips to Houston during the season coming up, to see my nephew play. I'll be right there off of Foxwood Forest and 1960 when I do go so, I won't be too far from your neck of the woods. I'll get with my nephew to over their schedule and see if they have some Thursday and Saturday games.

LOL! Man, Dex should've been in the league.

Billy Sims was before my time but, I have seen plenty of film to know that he was something serious.

I've spread that gospel for years, especially to people who wanna give me grief because 92 Carroll gave yp 35 points, over a third of the total points for the entire season, to Vernon that night. If you weren't there you just don't know. How often does a player of that physical talent play in 3A, especially back then? He'd have scored a few times on 83 Daingerfield. Believe that.

QB: Jack Mildren, Abilene Cooper. One of the best option QB's ever. Read the play as well as anyone.

FB: Jorvorski Lane, Lufkin. On the note of being bigger than linemen and running people over, the J-Train fits this as well as anyone.

RB's: Billy Sims, Hooks, and Ken Hall, Sugar Land. There have been so many great RB's in Texas, you can pretty much take your pick of whoever and not go wrong. However, Ken Hall is arguably the best high school player ever. Many of his records still stand (state and nationally).

That '83 Daingerfield team is one that I've always wanted to see. I've read about them many times but, that's it.

The only people who really know about that Vernon team are y'all, the folks in Vernon, and the people in Vernon's district. My girlfriend's cousin was a three year starter at RB for Graham, and was all state once, maybe twice. He saw Dexter his sophomore year, and he speaks of him the same way we do.

I've heard alot about Jack Mildren and, J-Train is a nice pick as well!

Just like Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson, Billy Sims and Ken Hall need no introduction.

Man, there is no wrong answer to these picks! This state has seen many great running backs! From Ken Hall, to Earl Campbell, to Billy Sims, Eric Dickerson, to Shawn Walters, to James Gray, to John Williams...etc. You just can't go wrong with any!

Throw in Cedric Benson, Shaud Williams, DaBryon Blanton, Rodney Thomas, Rodrick Walker, Chris Robertson, Louis Fite, as well as Tyson Thompson, Tatum Bell, Arturo "Sneezy" Beltran, Jeff Godley, Darren Lewis, Greg Hill, Basil Mitchell, Byron "Bam" Morris, Jerrod Douglas, and many, MANY more, and I'd say that we could put our backs up against anybody elses.

:notworthy Not many people outside of Abilene (or in Abilene for that matter) remember Sneezy. He was a year older than Benson so he was overshadowed in the LSWC and then got to Texas and got in trouble, but he was pretty incredible. Parade All American.

Sneezy had skills! Saw him against DeSoto and South Grand Prairie in the postseason and, I was impressed! He earned that All American status!

Keithy was a good guy, but didn't have 1/10 the talent that Sneezy had. Yes Sneezy was stupid, and that's why he got kicked out of tu, but there was no denying his skill.

Yes. He thought he had it made, got to Texas, got in trouble and got kicked out of school. Never really heard about him after that (However, Benson showed up at Texas the next year, so no one was going to hear Sneezy's name too much).

One of my older brothers who was a state trooper in Waco at the time that they were at Mart, mentioned a dude named Lonnie Green. But, he said that he never knew what happened to him. What was the reason for his incarceration?

Man, I played high school ball with a cat that didn't want to check his ego. Could be in the league right now, he if would've taken the advice that one of the coaches tried to give him.

Same thing happened to a QB from Abilene a few years after Sneezy named Marcus Johnson. Went off to OU and got in trouble. Now He's at East Central Oklahoma. He was a phenomenal athlete and dual threat in high school. His older brother Johnathan ran the 800 in the 2004 Olympics.
