We just got word that Freeman withdrew his name from consideration. he was quoted as telling the Midland officials he would rather coach for free at Permian than get $$100,000 a year to coach those no good stinking Lee Rebels. Keep in mind.. the old Parchman crowd is gonna have their say in who gets this job. They have worked their butts off to get Quis gone, so you can bet they are gonna be knee deep in trying to be heard on his replacement. Don't know if they'll succeed - but they are a determined lot. :cool:

With the interviewing continuing makes me wonder... could either be for show, for real, or in response to that group?

Exactly. I've never understood this fascination for Morton. Granted he is a pretty good coach, but nothing unusual. Even when Permian was going through it's worst period in history (2000-2004) and other teams fans were putting tags on their messages like "Remember when Permian used to be good?" Morton's teams lost to Permian more often than they won. 5 years, 3 losses. He wouldn't be a bad hire, but he wouldn't be at the top of the wish list either.

What do you think about Ratliff being a head coach again? I know that his stint at John Tyler didn't go to well. Now, of course, Tyler ISD has the open enrollment so, that, and the fact that people were still hurting over Allen Wilson's departure, could be a reason for that.

Calling all John Tyler fans! I was just going off of my own opinion and, I really don't know why Ratliff wasn't successful in Tyler. Can y'all fill me in, or correct me if I'm wrong on what happened to why Ratliff wasn't successful?

Look what Morton has done with the athletes he has had, or should I say "lack" of athletes he has had. Monterey does not have the athletes that most schools in the disrict has. I will argue that only Lubbock High has worse athletes.

Jus think what he could do if he had the big O-line, the fast QB, a receiver, a semi-decent secondary every year. Occasionaly Monterey will have one or the other but never a combo

Now for lower enrollment schools in the Panhandle...that just might work. There are a lot of good programs up here in the Panhandle/South Plains. To be honest, I'm not sure where the South Plains ends and where West Texas begins.
