About 4 months ago, Coach Daryl Phipps was elevated to head coach of the Aldine Eisenhower Eagles. He has been on IKE's coaching staff for several years and is very well respected within the IKE community. This past college recruiting season, Coach Phipps was very active in helping the graduating seniors get college football scholarships. Not just the D1 caliber players, but also the others with less talent, those needing a way to pay tuition to earn a college education. He was originally hired by Richard Carson and was one of the few bright spots last year having also been the head track coach where Ike's young men placed second at state behind Cinco Ranch.
Based on what I saw at the spring game, IKE's offense will be similar to the multiple option ran by Carson with more passing mixed in. They seemed to have pretty well scrapped any resemblance to last year's attempt at the spread offense! Returning starters and those with varsity experience primarily consist of those at the skill positions. One key ingredient these young men have in common is SPEED...LOTS OF IT! Almost all the sprinters on the IKE's state relay teams (4 x 100 and 4 x 200) are also football players.
Graduation really took its toll on both the offense and defense lines. Last years senior linemen received and accepted scholarships at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, North Texas, and Texas State. If some young linemen from the sub-varsity teams step it up this season, the Aldine Eisenhower Eagles could be back playing Texas high school football in December. IKE will be able to gauge how good we are real quick in Weeks #0 and #1. Our first game against A&M Consolidated at Reliant will be followed the next week against the Lufkin Panthers in Lufkin. I would sure like to see Eisenhower playing at our Year 2000 level when we visit Lufkin. A 49-21 blowout might be dreaming but memories sure makes up for a few losses to them the last few years.
LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON...TEXAS STYLE!

glad to hear everything is starting to get back on track at big ike. i was at that 2000 game when ike handed lufkin a big butt whooping, unfortunately for them they would pay for it over the next 4 years :D i was dissappointed in the game last year that ike played. always look forward to playing them every year. i hope they return to their old ways so we can see some hard hitting in your face football to open up on the new turf at ol abe. oh and u guys band is the only one that i actually look forward to watch perform every year. see u in sept. and good luck.

Let me try this again.
Oh, no, not the Eagles again! It was kinda O.K. not having to worry about Ike. I guess they are on their way back. Good luck this season.
