What is y'alls opinion of Coach Lavender? He's taking over the Coyotes this year. What does he run on offense and defense? Do you think he can take WF back to prominence?

Only if he can get some of the athletes away from Rider. I saw Denison play WF last year and it wasn't pretty. The Coyotes didn't have a whole lot.

Lavender was at Garland before the Owls went to the spread in 08. Garland had some good years then including a 06 trip to the semis losing to the state champs in a VERY close game, If he brings that offense it will be wing T, about 65%+ run.

Exactly. He will have to wear a recruiting hat more than a coaching hat to be successful there.

I have a friend that says Lavender is bringing a multiple set offense that leans toward the spread. That's why I'm trying to get other people's ideas about what he brings to the table.

I remember Lavender as one heck of a competitor on the field. It will be interesting to see how he does on the sideline.
For some reason when I think of this guy, I just remember him being a great Pole Vaulter...

Lav will do great. He is a high energy guy that knows the area like a pro. He will be able to get some kids from the middle school. The spread will be at old high.

Don't know what everyone is talking about as far as recruiting in WF. It has attendance zones just like most other multi school districts. If you think Ponder at Rider and the Hirschi Huskies are just going to sit back and enjoy the show, then you're kidding yourself.
Old High draws from Zundelowitz Junior High and splits Barwise with Rider. Those will be the kids Lavender gets to choose from.
Don't know why he'd be checking out middle schools????

From their website:
The Wichita Falls ISD is one of the few Texas school districts to offer a choice program that gives parents the choice of what secondary school they would like their child to attend. While elementary school attendance zones exist, parents can opt out of these and send their children to one of the five elementary magnet schools in the district. Secondary schools in the WFISD offer Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses to students wishing to pursue a more challenging academic curriculum.

You are correct. Amazing that something changed in the 20 years since I went to Rider...;):o

One of my best friends in college is from Old High and he pretty much said that most kids go to Rider as opposed to Old High. When they made the switch to the spread from the Wing T, they didn't have all the personel to run it.
I don't think they will be able to pull some of that top talent away from Rider

Old High and Hirschi haven't been the same since the Wichita Falls ISD went to this format.

Pond scum does a great job stealing the best kids and then losing with them in the playoffs. We have talent around here and Rider gets all of it.
Old High's problem is every coach they get goes someplace else after a few years.

I'll ask the secretary what he's been running so far since her son is still at Old High.

The kids in WF can go wherever they want. You can only be bussed in your zone, but you can attend outside your zone. David Nelson was at Petrolia as a freshman before Pond Scum got him to Rider.
No, the big thing is getting with the Middle School kids and getting them to sign up with Rider as Freshmen. I was a mentor at McNiel Middle School (I know, SCARY!:D) a few years ago for some of the football players and every kid on the team I talked to except 1 wanted to go to Rider and McNiel is the best junior high in town. Our secretary lives close to Hirschi and both of her sons have played for Old High.
