Everywhere you read about it, every team has their own TRADITION to talk about. Lufkin and Southlake talk alot about protecting the TRADITION. So does Katy, Judson, Permian, Tyler Lee, Midland Lee, Garland, Longview and the list goes on and on. To me the teams that have the winning programs really work the traditon angle, while teams that don't talk about school pride and maybe past winning traditons.

I am going to do my best Andy Rooney impression here.

So what does all this team TRADITION really mean to everyone?

Put simply, it means that you don't want to be rememberd as the class that did not play to the same standards that has been set before you. So it is basically a pressure to reproduce past success that has continued over a period of time. It perpetuates itself.

the on-coming classes are in fact judged against the past. but more importantly, they have seen and been a part of the preparation and all the work it takes to win consistently. when a group comes thru a tradition filled program and they see how hard the srs work in the season and out of season, they understand what it takes and it becomes a natural thing, esp if there are good coaches to push everyone.

Well put, DD. That's what I meant by the tradition perpetuating itself. You can't help but get wrapped up in it and strive to be a part of it, because it's all you've seen, know, and have come to value.

True, some schools don't have a tradition and nothing to look forward to except to play and finish a season.
