The following is all just MHO:

Every time a Lopez player falls down, Lopez gets a call. Every time a Connally player falls down, Lopez gets a call.

2 phantom free kicks awarded in the first half led directly to 2 Lopez goals.

Players go down with injuries with Lopez winning, clock keeps running.

Lopez goalie illegally plays pass back to him in first half, no call.

4-1 Lopez now with 8:25 remaining. Ref has issued Lopez players a couple cards as I've been typing, but it's academic at this point.

Boy, I hate it when the ref gets involved (or doesn't get involved when he should) in that way. Interestingly, during the game, I was following the RGV Sports reporter online (the news service covering the Valley schools) - he was very balanced and in fact complimentary toward Connally, saying how hard the CHS boys were playing today considering they had the late game last night plus going to a shoot-out. He said nothing about the ref though.

Kellieam1, I can't say I'm affiliated with Connally HS, nor had I been to one of their games before the tournament last week. Never underestimate the guys from Southmost when it comes to soccer. They've got a few state titles under their belts in Browntown.

Not taking anything away from the RGV, which has emerged as a soccer powerhouse in the last 5 years. This matchup coming up IMHO is sort of a Texas HS equivalent to a Brazil-Germany World Cup final, in that you have 2 champions going at it. I'm looking forward to it. I do think Plano has had the harder road to get to this point, yesterday's games notwithstanding.

We should have at worst case came away from both games with ties this season. Best case we'd have been 1-0-1 against them. But that wasn't how things worked out. They beat us fair and square so good for them :)

I know that the Coppell coach said earlier this week that he/she felt like district really prepared them for this run they had at state. I have no reason not to agree with that either. Carroll, Hebron, Marcus and Coppell all had strong girls soccer teams. Congrats again to the Lady Cowgirls.
