I,m a true Lufkin panther fan. My nephew is J. Lane. You have a super football program , and what makes your kids so good is the system and the exprience from professionals in your area. For all the speed your kids have, with the 4.4s and 4.5s, why is it they never make it to the track finals in Austin like the others from around the state. Do you have a track program? I,m curious to know this.We send guys and girls to state every year and they do really well ,like this year.

As for Renfo running past db,s, as I have told my nephew Lane that at the next level he won,t run over players like in HS. Renfro won,t run by db,s in college like in HS also. The game gets a little faster at the next level for everyone.

McKay and Clint were both in the state finals (as Soph.) in '04. Clint got 2nd in the 300H and McKay got 7th in the 200M. This year McKay's 200 times were just not as fast. Many say still lingering effect of the broken leg in football. I assume you know that Clint went back to the state finals in the 300H and got 2nd again, this year.
FYI, Clint's Dad is the first to say that Clint didn't get his speed from him, but his grandfather who was very good in hurdles and played in the NFL.

It's not cocky..every 5-A high school has a track program & Carroll's is one of the best. Many State Champs, but not so many in the sprints. Coach Dodge requires football players to run track unless they play baseball. Everytime someone from Carroll tries to answer a question, someone cries "arrogance", it gets old. We don't apologize for winning.

We won our first district title in track this season since like 10 yrs ago (Something bad like that). I think its the way the team is conditioned that makes us so fast on the field, and then there are those kids like Renfro that have natural speed.

I don't know if it was cocky, but the response was snide at best. The poor guy asked a simple question and wanted some specifics and D08 laid that abrupt egg on him with no explanation. It at the bare minimum showed a lack of compassion for a fellow board member, and frankly, it's a bit below what I have grown to expect from Dragon fans, especially the ones who are defending the coment. The person in question has already apologized, and rightly so.

Yes, basicly you are correct, but the general gist of the note is that he wants an explanation of why you have so much speed, but he never hears of track success. It's pretty ticky-tack, but I thought his intent was clear. JMHO.

See thats different at Carroll. If you run track (which is almost the whole football team, they just dont all make the meets), you run after football offseason. The only people excluded are baseball players. I guess that gives us an extra edge too.

As someone who has been to about a million track meets, let me offer this bit of insight. Caroll does have a track program like other schools. I will tell you that there is stark difference in our track coaches and the coaches from "track" schools. You can tell from the form and handoffs that track is not our forte. We are getting better but, no where near where we have to go. I would also tell you that, until they put the 40 down as an event, you won't see SLC tearing up the track world. I believe the last sprinter we had make the regionals was Luna. We have some fast kids and with the right coaching would be much better. I think a unique aspect of our program is, right or wrong, it is used to keep everyone in condition. We have soccer players, football players, volleyball, basketball ect all coming out. Baseball is the only sport that gets a pass. As for 40 times, the numbers put up by the men in question have all been timed at combines or other non-SLC events. I have always thought that unless you've ran a 40 or 100 at a combine or track meet, it shouldn't be considered as accurate.

Direct correlation between a football squad’s success and a track team’s success is less than perfect. Case in point SLC versus Lewisville, in the first year that the Dragon’s were in 5A, and placed in the district (7-5A) with the Farmers.
District track meet;
1. Lewisville, 158
2. Southlake Carroll, 120
Football;
W 52-14*
*And it wasn’t that close

you know, another HS with an ELITE football program that doesnt really ever have too good of a track team is Smithson Vally, the Rangers have 2 WRs listed at 4.5 and 4.4 in the 40, yet either competed in track, so its kinda hard to see what kinda speed they really got, something tells me that if they were 10.3 100m guys that they would run track....track times and 40 times are OVERRATED!!!!

One guy at the state finals?
Your initial post made it sound like more.
The "Do you have a track program" really could have been phrased a little different, if information on track success at district/regionals/state track meets was what you were after.
Your point, "There are not a lot of legit 4.3 and 4.4 in HS" is very true and seem to be what you were really after. It's true for North Texas, South Texas, West Texas and East Texas.

Heck ya that was a dang CATCH !!!! That play is one of the biggest reasons "instant replay" was started. They always go back and show that play when the topic of instant replay gets debated. Everyone and their brother knows that was a touchdown and the Oilers and Earl Campbell should of been playing for the "RING" that year.

It is just like saying basketball players who are quick should be good track runners. Fact of the matter is this, quicks count a lot more in basketball and football and even baseball then overall speed. Hard times is like .....when the expresso machine acts up at Starbuck's....or American Eagle sold out of all the cargo pants...man...I don't know how you people survive there...no wonder there are so many thugs.
I thought the same thing when I saw that handle. No offense-its just funny. Drop him off on the corner of Keltys and Highland at midnight. And Lufkin's mild compared to a real city. That's like saying Crown Colony Killas!

I forgot about Cedar Grove. That's not even in the city. I dont think the Sheriff's Dept feels too good about going out there. No offense to anybody. I know its only a small percentage of people in those neighborhoods who cause problems.

your right....that's like spray painting Crown Colony Killas...there's
just something really wrong with that picture. Somebody needs to leave their neighborhood more often I guess...

I think the per capita income in Southlake is well over $100K a year. Dont get me wrong-I know that suburban kids can knock you out just as fast as the kids in the ghetto but c'mon-thuggin when you got a couple of Benz's and a Porsche in the driveway?
Man we are way off topic!

at the least it is $100k - that is probably very conservative. That doesn't make them good or bad people though - just wealthy in appearance. I know a few of them that make that much but spend even more though - heavy debts. As far as Thug - well I doubt it. At least there is no need for it anyway. Southlake is surrounded by Colleyville, Keller, North Richland Hills and Grapevine - all nice communities. There is no ghetto there. Maybe he is kinda like JAmie Kennedy in Malibu's Most Wanted.

Hey guys I started this talking about football and track , where did all this other stuff come from........

Yeah, your right...Carroll does have a good track & field program, but typically does better in the distances than the sprints as far as the running events go. As people have stated previously, our guys have plenty of "football speed" to get the job done.

This whole debate about SLC speed is frankly funny.. SLC has proven 3 Years in a row that they are fast enough to make the Texas Title game and two times they won it !
I'm with Drgnbkr... SLC has proven and will probably prove again that they are fast enough to play with the Lufkins, Denton Ryans and ect.
The ironic thing.. the team that beat SLC was KATY. Another very talented team that gets disrespected by alot of people for being a so called slow team.
Wow, two so called slow teams--- SLC and Katy and all they do is WIN BABY.
Something to be said about having alot of good coachable kids I think....

Thank you guys, and yes I never said that they did not have football speed. But it takes much more than speed.SLC is the team to beat in Div2.But our kids will be right there, so don,t slack off. And by the way Lufkin beat the Div 1 champs in 2004 and the Div2 champs Katy in 2003, so you know whos next....... :)

Well I would love to think that can beat whomever we play. There are no teams that are unbeatable. But Lufkin is young on offense this year. Lost the whole o- line, new qb from jv,new running backs. The only starters are two receivers, and one that started two games but he may be the best of them.

that sound you're hearing is the smallest violin in the world playing "my heart bleeds for you". you all will reload well and have a pretty good set of receivers to build on.

To "ktcarl"I was a big Oiler fan and Renfro was awesome running routes. On any given day he might have outrun them , but a speedster he was not, just a great football player.....and I still say he caught that pass against in that playoff game, what do you guys think. :D
Sorry it took me a while to respond. I've been busy and I recently had surgery on my hernia. "OUCH!" Hurts to sit down and get up.
Yes, Renfro caught that pass in the Steeler game. Everyone knows it including Steeler fans. The ref blew it and in a situation like that where there is uncertainty the home team usually gets the call.
I agree he wasn't a barn-burner but he was fast enough to get the job done. He was a really good 'possession receiver'. I'm glad to see his son is doing well up there in Dragonland. Would love to see him in the State Final against Katy!!!!!
