I am going to be in Southlake this weekend for the U.S. Master's Swimming Gulf Zone Championship meet. It's being held at the SLC natatorium. I'm looking forward to it. Should be a good time.
Would appreciate advice on what to do in the down time. Good vegetarian/seafood would be especially appreciated as this is Great Lent and so steak and BBQ is off the menu.

Bird,
Southlake Town Square has a lot of good options as does downtown FW which is not far away at all. There was one decent fish place my mom and I ate at about a year ago but I can not remember the name of this place. It was right across from the QT on Southlake Blvd and by some nice steak house. I believe a DSW is or used to be across the way too.
If you and the Mrs have some down time shoot me a PM and I'll come buy yall a drink.

I believe that was it. It was really good. I had some smoked salmon or something like that and loved it.

I like Rockfish too. We used to have one in Lewisville but it is now a Twin Peaks which I can't say I'm too upset about.
Rockfish was the first place I ever had fish tacos at

Feedstore BBQ makes some pretty decent catfish and it is close to the Natatorium. I wouldn't put the catfish in the same category as their ribs, but at least it can get you to a Southlake landmark (sort of.)

Where is feedstore BBQ and what are their hours of operations? I'm always looking for an excuse to make it into Southlake and I have neverh had any feedstore in all my years of living.

It's on White's Chapel between 1709 and Continental. Best BBQ I've ever had in my life. I'm not sure what the exact hours are but if your looking to go on a certain day, go on all you can eat sunday lunch, try not to eat for a few meals before hand, it'll be worth it.

Oh my goodness.
Go there.
Now.
I don't even really consider myself a Southerner and I think I'd just about keel over and die without Feedstore's ribs :D

Have you noticed that they're trying to change all the street signs from "white chapel" to "whites chapel"?
Since Lonesome Dove used to be the Black Chapel, and White Chapel was the White Chapel and all....
Political correctness gone wild? Or is this one okay?

funny everyone loves rockfish and fish city grill....same company/owner....menu's are really similar. but yeah, i would recommend one of those places. or if you're really willing to spend some money, go to truluck's in town square for some of the best seafood when you're hundreds of miles from the gulf.

Mostly chain restaurants in Southlake? I'm reading through your recommendations and I could have sworn you guys are directing him to The Woodlands Town Center.

Fish City is great. We have one in Flower Mound and eat there at least once a week. Their Salmon is very good.

If you want something a bit less chainy, I'd suggest going up to Roanoke, about 5-7 miles away and going to Babes for some homestyle food, fired chicken etc.
The Central Market is directly across from SL Town center and you can get some good food for less money than a reataurant.
I like Rockfish too. We used to have one in Lewisville but it is now a Twin Peaks which I can't say I'm too upset about.

There is a Rockfish at the Shops at Highland Village. I am not a fish guy though.

Good call on Babes.
I am not too familiar with the lent practice so I didn't suggest it since its all meat/poultry.
I do second the Central Market suggestion though. I have eaten there a few times and it is indeed very good.
The only thing that the Shops of HV are good for IMO is the Snuffers. I love that place.
and Rockfish apparently.

Might have to hit up Central Market. I hear good things.
Rockfish sounds intriguing as well. Do they have shrimp/scallops/oysters or is it all fish?

I am not even going to walk into a BBQ joint during Great Lent. I can't handle that kind of temptation.

Very, very nice facility y'all have-- the CISD Natatorium. It's about the nicest dedicated public school natatorium I have ever seen. And the people there were very nice and ran the meet well and made everyone feel welcome. About the only thing I wish is that the fans ran a bit faster, as it did get a bit humid. Then again, I am used to swimming outdoors and just about every indoor facilty feels humid to me.
Town Center was neat. We ate at Thai Chili while we were there. Thai food is always a safe bet during Great Lent, they always have vegetarian options. I am ready for some ribs, but that was a good place. I would have enjoyed walking around Town Center more if I wasn't dead tired.

In the 1850's there was a circuit preacher named White who built a small chapel where White's Chapel United Methodist and cemetery now is. It took on the name White's Chapel back then and the name stuck..the city is just trying to get it right. On another historical note, the two motorcycle cops killed by Bonnie and Clyde were shot down at the present day intersection of Dove and 114.
