Im sorry but i truly believe the legit state champion in 5a this year would have to be the winner out of the D2 bracket. 21/25 top teams in the state in a 64 team bracket. D1 is full of teams that finished 2nd or 3rd in their districts and play less games. Trinity is a great team dont get me wrong, but how would they favor in D2 or any other D1 team this year?

I absolutely agree. I hate having to explain to people, that don't understand how the playoff system works, that D2 has had the higher quality teams than D1 over the past few years (at least since '02 :D )

I agree

It is the trophie that matters, because as that sits in their case at school, no one will look at it and be like, "well yea but that was the year that 5a D I was... " no... its going to be "that was our first football championship"

Both divisions are real. Trinity is on cloud 9 right now. I don't think anything said on this forum or anywhere else is gonna tarnish their trophy or their rings. Congratulations Trinity.

Disagree with you - SLCoutsider breath. "Since '02" - you forget the O3 North Shore team - which is considered one of the best HS teams of all time. They were in D1.

But I take nothing away from D2. I will agree that in 05 the best two teams in HS football are Katy and SLC - and the winner should be considered THE STATE CHAMP.

The trophy is all that matters. All I know is that I can go on Texas Football's website, Texas Football Ratings, here, and the book King Football and find the same thing. Every last one of them has a final score for all the title games. All I care about is that I find Judson playing in 10 title games and winning 6 titles. They got 6 trophies and not one of them said from the weaker bracket. What was the weak bracket in 1990 and 1991? People don't usually remember all that stuff for a long time. I know a lot of people care about weak brackets now, but did you really worry about that stuff in the 90's when we didn't talk about teams as much or have as much info. I think all this comes up because we have more info now.

I root for a big school. That means I want to win D1. As long as we win all our playoff games, I'm happy. It wasn't my idea to have 2 brackets, but as long as they do, I'm a happy man with D1 state titles.

I think bashing division titles is as bad as bashing the 88 title. It's insulting to kids to hear that their state title is worth less than somebody else's title. Even if you say that's not what you're doing, I'm here to say that's exactly what you are doing. The Houston Rockets won 2 titles and all they heard was that they won because Jordan wasn't in Chicago (I know he came back late in the 2nd year). I'm here to say that Houston might've beaten the Bulls WITH Jordan.

Congrats to ET for sure - but, honestly they're just another team in Region 1 or 2 of D2. If Lufkin had played D1 the past 5 years - well, just go ahead and paint that ugly trophy purple. Same for SLC - but make it green

I do not want to get caught up in a debate about who is better than the other. Trininty won last week and had a great team, the winner today will also be a great team, but talking about if they would play each other and who will win will not happen. I just want both teams, schools and fans to enjoy the moment it is hard to get there after 15 or 16 games so congrats to both of them.

now this is why we need to go back to only 1 state playoff bracket. the 2 seperate divisions mess everything up

I guess that is why we message boards, so the fans can debate all this. For it's worth; in D2 the best 5 teams are as follows :-

1). SLC
2). Lufkin
3). Katy
4). Plano
5). Cove

In D1

1). Trinity
2). Judson
3). Spring Westfield
4). North Shore
5). A&M

So are yall willing to give up your last state championship? You know the one where yall got killed by Lake Highlands and PESH who both lost to the D2 champ JT.
