I'm not saying this year, but in history they have 50 more wins than SLC with 5 less losses - that's impressive.

It depends on what measurement is being used to define what is the Greatest Team in Texas. This is winning percentage, which is not always a guide. State Championships would be another, Winning Seasons another. I am sure there other criteria which could be used. It also difficult to compare records of 2A and 5A, as I am sure that the best ever 5A would beat the best ever 2A. (once we have decided which is the best 2A and 5A).

but the #4 team hasn't even played 50 games. What if a brand new school came out and only lost 1 game with a 90% record. Would they be the best?
If you say no, then the number of games played HAS to be part of the discussion. Thus, I vote for Highland Park, almost 1000 games played, and still in the top 10. That my friends is a dynasty.

I'm not counting the teams that only have won under 250 games. I just think Odessa record is Amazing.

You are right - I think they should make a movie about it.

Winning % is not the best judge and somebody like Chapin flaws the numbers. You have to look at titles, how a team did in the playoffs, and their winning %. Judson is one of the Top 10, but not on your list because they lost a lot as they moved up in class in the 60's and 70's.

so I guess you don't have to be consistent to be a dynasty? I mean many schools have moved up in classes and had success. I guess you should just throw out all the numbers that you don't like.

I didn't say that and you should know what I meant. You can't just take the 10 best winning % in all classes and say they're the best. There's more that goes into it.

but you cannot just discount winning percentage. Winning percentage shows the consistency of a team.

does it ? or do 6 state championships over 3 decades show consistency ? perhaps 10 trips to the state championship game over 20% years of 5a football shows consistency ? since this is a 5a message board why dont we wait until carroll has 20+ years as a 5a school to determine their consistency in 5a and how great they are ?
Judson's accomplishments are second to no one in the 5a world of Texas football.

sure it is but it is not the most important factor in establishing a great -- if that were the case then the Utah Jazz would have been the best team of the 90's in the NBA and the Bills would have been right there for football in the NFL even though they have 0 titles to show for all those wins.

I did not say that it was the only factor, the person that started this thread said it was the only factor.

I am too lazy to dig, atm, but the Jazz don't have the best overall record in the 90's.

You can't argue with this. If you look at overall championships, not just football, the Scots are the best ever in Texas. SLC may catch them one day, but it will be a long gradual trip. That is why Bynum's King Football requirement of at least 450 games played is a reasonable standard. Don't tell me some team like Mansfield Summit or the Hebron Hawks is a dynasty. Sure they came out of the starting gate fast, but dynasty implies extreme age, not youth.

I don't care about winning percentages......Permian could have played 500 games and won 75%....but another team could have played 800 games and won 65%!
Case in point...Plano!
679-293-47....and 7 State Titles.
No other big school matches that accomplishment! (More games...and more titles!)

i'm not a 5a bigot as some are on here, so i won't bring up the fact that 2 titles were 3a, and 1 was 4a. well, i guess i will after all.

actually 2 were 2A, 1 was 3A...and the 1 4A title was considered the highest level of play in 1977. The rest were 5A (3).
Oh and Plano has still had an amazing level of success, having played far more games than SLC and Permian! I mean c'mon.....over 1000 games...and they've won nearly 70% of them.....plus 7 State Championships! Wow!!

it is easier to call them by the classifications as they are set up today. plano has won titles in 3 classifications, not 4, as it now appears.

uhhh.....ok!
2 in 2A, 1 in 3A, 1 in 4A and 3 in 5A! Looks like 4 classifications to me!
(Are you saying 4A was considered the highest level in 1970's...and that same level simply switched to 5A in the 80's?! So there really wasn't a jump in level?!)
