View Full Version : Cutler asks to be traded
So it appears the situation between Jay Cutler and the Broncos has snowballed downhill a faster pace than it was moving last week. Jay had a metting with McDonald over the weekend and its now a he said he said situation that appears to have culminated in Jay asking to be traded.
Consequently, Cutler instructed Cook, who also attended the meeting, to formally request a trade. The quarterback said he left town late Sunday and would skip McDaniels' first team meeting on Monday as they begin their offseason program.
"I certainly went back there, expecting I'd be there [Monday] but not now," Cutler said. "It's not mandatory. I'll attend every mandatory mini-camp and training camp but that's it. Really, it's best for me to move on.

I think it (the situation) could possibly reverse itself and Jay and Josh could work things out...but that appears the least likely scenario at this point. Denver likely wants a QB that can play right now and would want as close to equal value for Jay as they can get....
So I would love to see the Cowboys trade Tony Romo for Jay Cutler.
Discuss.

The damage was done as soon as it became public that the Broncos actively shopped Cutler for Cassell.
The initial Bronco denial sealed the deal for Cutler. He knew they were lying. I don't blame him for not trusting the McDaniel or the Broncos. It could have been handled better, but I do not really blame him.
This is a colossal fail on the part of McDaniels. He is not going to get an equal or greater value for a Pro Bowl QB who led the league's 2nd best offense last year.

Cutler is a team killer? Did the Broncos kill their own team by casting doubt on their franchise QB?
I really like these disputes/ situations where there's some blame and a whole lot of ego on both sides...
Cutler's had the reputation as a guy that marches to his own beat, and you know he's gotta have a few working braincells with having gone to Vandy. While he struggled as any first year QB would, Cutler has progressed steadily.
You have layers of loyalty vs the business side, both from the Broncos' perspective and Cutler's. The Broncos made Cutler their franchise guy and gave him the reigns. inseeking options with Cassell are the Broncos saying they see a ceiling on Cutler's development? I find it interesting to see how this onion gets peeled back.
How does Cutler's attitude compare vs Terrell Owens, as far as selfishness goes? Is it Cutler's fault at all or does the finger point to Denver's GM?

There's some blame to go all-around, but the majority of it rests with McDaniels and the Broncos for intiating the entire situation with the decision to shop a Pro Bowl QB.
McFail wanted to bring in his flavor of the month pet project from New England and it has backfired spectacularly.
Pioli and Herm must be laughing themselves silly in KC right now.

McDaniels worked under the devil himself in Belicheck. The part that turned this from bad to worse was Josh denying he shopped Cutler for Cassel. If he would have been straight up with Jay from the beginning, this would likely be over with. Then again....in New England...being "straight up" and admitting you did something wrong doesn't come easily.
I say we blame Bill Belicheck for this one. :D
Cutler to Lions for #1 pick sounds good for both sides.

That won't happen. The Lions would likely offer no more than their other 1st round pick and maybe a 3rd or 4th round.....but not the no. 1.
If I had a guess to where he might go two teams come to mind.
Cleveland - could offer Quinn or Anderson with a draft pick. Mangini isn't up on either of the QBs he's got and after Cutler's dismantling of the Jets last year...I'm sure Cutler left a good impression.
Minnesota - This would be the best place for Jay. A team with defense...and really only a reliable QB away from making the next step. Minnesota would have to be considered serious NFC contenders if this were to happen. Minnesota doesn't have a QB to give, which could hinder the trade.
In my opinion..Jay will be a Bronco longer than Josh McDaniel. Denver would be stupid to give possibly the best QB of the future away over a young ignorant coach.
Kubiak and the Texans front office are kicking themselves in the tail right now....The old "Denver" offense is now the Houston offense and I think Kubiack was in Denver when they drafted Cutler(I could be wrong) but Cutler is one of Kubiack's guys....they went out and got Orlsvky(sp) from Detroit.....now Cutler want's out of Denver.....that would have been a good match for both.

Who says Schaub couldn't be sent to Denver? The signing of Orlsvkyojjdjdfntlsy is inconsequential. He's at best a back up. This deal would be for a your starting qb and possible picks.

I just don't think they would deal Schaub.....You think Denver would have taken Rosenfels?
They are gonna force feed us Schuab five years, each year telling us next year will be his year the way they did with Carr.

Not where Jay and his parents live. Trust me on this. Plus compared to CA, AZ, FL and NV, CO has kinda bottomed. Rebound in out lying areas is near.

Well the only way you bring in Cutler is to be your starter for the next decade. It's also the only way he agrees to come. For that to happen Schaub has to go. You cannot pay two quarterbacks starting money and have a complete roster. The $$$ add up too quick. Denver would not have taken Rosenfels. I think Minnesota will be answering the same question this fall as they did last. That would be why did they refuse to seriously address their qb issue in the offseason? Rosefels is a good backup and occasionaly nice starter but very little more, imo.

This deal would never happen for one reason.
The Texans are the only organization in the NFL who think Schaub is actually a NFL starting QB. Noone wants an inconsistant QB who will only give you 9-12 games a year.

Great article today about his agent, Bus Cook, and his approach with getting his qb clients what they want. Cutler may actually want out of Denver, for many reasons. This request predates the recent drama he just decided to make again, this time firmly. You're 100% on the mark, though. it is very doubtful Denver will pull the trigger on this. They have no assurances to end up with anything as valuable as what they have, a young qb capable of being the franchise. Even is they get a great package of picks those picks have to pan out and, more than likely, they don't end up filling the most critical position in this sport. Cutler has 3 years remaining on his original rookie deal of 6yrs/48 million. He knows he's worth more than that but he also knows the Broncos probably would not be talking extension without prompting until 2010 or 2011. Also, make no mistake, if he does get moved and immediate extension will be part of the deal. Good call, Owl.

But anyway,,,I guess JJ isnt interested in trading Romo for Cutler....In that case I'd like to trade Jerry to Denver for Jay Cutler...Its good to keep Romo anyway, Jay can always use a good backup.
Did I mention I hate Jarry Jones?...I do...more than I hate cough syrup.
