Unless something happens and DFW is sucked into Okalhoma then I say nobody ;):D
Of course you mean Katy, not just Katy team...cause the only one remotely close is Cinco Ranch and they are farther from it, then they are close.
Outside of that you nailed the 3 of the only ones that really come to mind, and thats North Shore, The Woodlands and Cy Woods. Thats all I see, though I just honestly dont see those doing it anytime soon.

I wouldn't exactly dismiss Hightower as a possibility. They could have some really good athletes come through that program on a yearly basis. An that coaching staff will probably get better after getting a taste of a deep playoff run.
And yes. I meant KHS only.

Only with once in a generation talent and even then only every other generation. Sorry, that team has come roaring into the post season toooooooooooo many times and left with a whimper for me to be on board with. Class coach and a quality program but I do not trust them in November and there have been too many Decembers they should have been a part of but weren't.:o

Sadly I agree with you. We certainly have the talent year in year out. Fishy play calling sometimes does play an affect on the team's success. Last season we should have gone much deeper. And the year before, the state championship should of been ours. But oh well, new seasons brings new expectations.
But to get back to the topic without picking North Shore eventhough I know they are capable of going and winning state.... Im going with The Woodlands and Hightower. The Woodlands is a very talented team. Hightower has many athletic players, I think they could of won the state title last december, but were out coached by a dissapointing (at least in my eyes) Allen Eagles team.

Aymond (Head Coach for people who don't know) is OC for now. Im expecting to see the plays switch up this season due to a promising new QB.

+1 They are close every year. It is not easy to get to the big game, and they were just a few minutes away from beating Hightower this past year.

Hightower will have athletes, but tighter district transfer restrictions and more importantly, the opening of the Sienna Plantation HS in 2010 will work against them. Depth will be a growing concern.

11 HS...it's stupid, from an athletic perspective. We could debate the impact in other areas, but hey...this is football.
I think you make a good point though in regard to ridge and marshall. Drop them to 4A and let the other schools pick up a another non-district game. It just seems screwy to me to have 6 team districts and 10 team districts. In some districts, if you win one district game you make the playoffs!!! Could you not have 8 team districts for UIL purposes across the board? Hmmmm...

To the previous poster, I guess I've always seen the Houston Area for these purposes defined as west through Katy, north through Conroe and Humble ISDs, east to Baytown, south through Fort Bend and southeast to Galveston.

It is interesting that no one mentions Westfield, but then again DeKaney's cut into their talent pool quite a bit. I think they still have something to say as a program. Westfield didn't have an answer at the RB position last year for as long as I can remember since they turned the corner in 2001. I'd be shocked if that is a problem two years in a row.
North Shore is a logical choice because of their consistency. Hightower could be there as well, but will they be as consistently in the mix as North Shore's been? Hightower may not ever have a class like last year again.
It is a tough question to answer because the traditional talent hotbeds (Aldine, Alief and HISD) are no longer producing elite level teams.
Fleeman93
03-16-2009, 11:05 AM
In my opinion it will be a team that has a freakish amount of talent in one season so it won't be as much of a coaching thing as it is a player thing. I do think Cinco could have done it this year if Ros and Hirtz were 100% all season. North Shore will always be in the discussion because of the talent but I will never put my eggs in their basket after the last couple of seasons. Westfield has the talent but they do less with it than North Shore does. Pearland is consistently good but not great. With all of that said I just think it will be a team with a freakish amount of talent that comes along.

I would only agree with that statement in regard to last year. Westfield's performed better than North Shore against a tougher schedule since 04, and they've also had the advantage head-to-head.
They both get good results with their talent. They may not always be state championship results, but there's nothing wrong with double digit win seasons.
Houston area teams won't consistently be in the state championship picture until the traditional hotbeds start fielding good teams again. I can't tell you when that will be.

The interesting thing about both programs is that they were sleeping giants before their current run of success. It happened for North Shore in the mid 90s when Aymond first arrived. They were perennial losers before he got there.
Ron Lynch took over Westfield in the late 90s and it took a couple of seasons before Westfield broke through in 2001. Meekins took over the program in 2004 and got them to a state championship appears in his first season. They were a perennial loser for much of the 90s before Lynch arrived.
There are examples like this all over the state. McGuire is doing a similar thing to Aymond/Meekins at Cedar Hill right now.
I see sleeping giants all over Houston that could woken up by the right staff at the right time.

Whoever it is, it's going to come from the Outer Burbs. I really do not see HISD, Alief or even Aldine being in the mix anytime soon.
It's also going to be a school that attracts virtually all the talent within the school district. All Star team in a manner of speaking.

They were loaded with talent this year and the coach couldn't do anything with it. Likely that they won't have as much talent any time soon so doubt they will do much.

lol, yeah, winners like (or should like) winners because they know what it takes to get and stay there. 2008 and 2007 would have been good games, but I'm stickin' with in 2007 Riley and crew 'shock and awe' a great Katy team. Yeah, that hail mary was a thing of beauty! I think your "shock and awe" would have gone over about as well as it did in Iraq! The 2007 team would not be denied and the 2008 team had more heart and determination then most teams can muster in 3 seasons. Having said that, SLC is still a power house and a team to be reckoned with. Never say never. Take last year. Who in D2 playoffs could have beaten The Woodlands? Nobody. The Lufkin game was an anomaly and they probably would have never matched up in the playoffs anyway. Who's to say that D1 won't someday be the same strength and depth? It has happened.

I'm surprised no one has considered Klein Oak. 2 Quarterfinals appearances in the last 3 years, with yet another talented core brewing. Although young and inexperienced the oline will make an attempt to bounce back from losing all 5 starters. But the defense will be very talented with the only major hole at #2 corner. I expect to see one of the most talented D's Klein Oak has put on the field in recent years, they are very strong and quick. The offense is the only question mark, as there isn't a true playmaker like a Desean Hales or Ossam Cook anymore.

No possible way to know that for sure. But considering the first meeting was a 47-0 win to The Woodlands, there is a possibility that The Woodlands might actually match up well with Katy. I don't think Katy's DB's could have stayed with the TW receivers. On the other hand, Clapsaddle, Adamo and Maires would have contained Brandt and Swanson easily. I just do not think they saw DB's that good all year. Plus TW were the more physical team in the trenches too.
On the flipside, Katy are a great team with the season on the line. The Woodlands have been known to lose games they should win under those conditions. In that matchup however, I just think in 2008 TW had enough talent to overcome that.

They got a pretty good chance with Daniel Lasco at RB IMO.
I haven't seen Lasco's name on any track results. Is he not running this year? I think he did pretty good last year as a freshman.
