View Full Version : SLC Band - will it be a factor?

If I recall - in 2003 the SLC Band at halftime during the championship game did a little predicition (was it going to 32-0?). Seemed to jinx things a bit.

Are they planning something similar this year?

If so - should let Katy have his team come out to warm up on Endzone while band is playing so they can get pumped up by whatever they do on the field. Would be fun if they make another prediction - or if SLC band director were to request team to get off field...

:D :D :D

most of our songs we play are supposed to get people pumped up. and we wont have quite 400 people, but we'll be pretty loud, especially since its the championship.

Frankly - at Texas Stadium - when you guys make your noise - it goes up the stack. If you would aim some of those instruments toward the sides the crowd would actually hear ya'll.

Of course, if some of the noise is intended to be aimed at Katy O-line it would require a different plan - but I don't think your band has been used offensively like that. Would require the brass, in particular, to actually point at the O-line and play loud - but from what I've heard - it's more of a squeak.

During the band competitions - got louder sound from several smaller bands.

Allen is a crazy *** band and you know it

but you know, bands can't really disrupt the field. Since the Texas Stadium is pretty hot, now right now it's a lil chilly there in DA, but there's basically no wind in the stadium. So if its above 80 in the stadium the air will rise and so will the sound. You can't really point the sound all at one place, because on the field it kind of drowns out...

KTBTyler

That's like asking if fans are a factor in the game. If you look at teams like Texas AM with insanely loud crowds, yes it is always a factor. It certainely gives the team a mental edge. But it all comes down to how well the teams play.

I don't remember the SLC band much from 2003. But the Katy Band is gonna be loud and proud... we are very excited about a great game this Saturday!

i know yankeeman and i always aim at the opposing team, be it kickoffs, on offense what ever, when ever we play we aim at the opposing team, we try to get the people around us to do the same

This is coming from a Katy band member...when we played you in 2003, you really weren't that loud (from across the stands). We (other band ppl) were commenting on how weak you guys sounded (as in volume, tuning and blend was excellent though), and while we were on the sidelines we couldn't really hear anything.

Now in the situation of game disruption...Texas Stadium, along with any other big stadium, will spread the sound outward even when people have their horns focused on a certain spot. Band disruption should be at a minimum, but we all know both bands will try their best to do what they can ;)

In consistency...we play the fight song on average at least 40 times a game...just ask any Katy fan. We'll blow it right in your face whenever we want :) We play constantly while we are on defense, and at the end of the game opponents have our fight song memorized.

That's how we do things.

CyFallsMom
12-15-2005, 07:21 PM
Believe me - they do!! It doesn't really matter how many are in the band - it matters how LOUD they are. We only have about 200 members in ours (not including Color Guard -that's another 50) but they can be pretty loud - just ask some of the Katy offensive line about it...and that was with only about 120 of our members at the Katy game:) The Katy band plays constantly - I've never seen anything like it!!!

OMG  You need to go ahead give Micheal Irving your other crackpipe. SLC didn't even come close to drowning out the LP band. You had 108 members at All Region (all the good players). You still had a good sound, but it was average. The only band that that was probably louder than Lufkin this year was PAM. That includes the Woodlands! Now next year if we get stuck in the Kingwood district, they can certainly drown out the other band.

Come on now, let's not be hating on bands. In my experience, the bands are some of the most die hard football fans out here, as you can see from the multiple posters who have said they're involved. We are fans of football, and yes, while through out the year we have various concerts and competitions, come tomorrow, we are all there to cheer on our team. We're fans, just all dressed up the same and with instruments ;) I have respect for anyone who'll dedicate themselves like that, including the Katy band. I can't wait for the match up tomorrow, and I trust both bands will provide some excitement. That's the idea anyway lol

Good luck to both teams tomorrow!

How would you know, with cauliflowers for ears?:D

Sorry man - I've been in the stands for EVERY Dragon game since 2003. Love everything about Southlake - I'm no hater (my brothers go to the schools), but I just wish the band was better - - - it was an "honest comment" . . . they do not play in tune - there are many other smaller bands that are quite a bit louder than Carroll's because they play in tune. Sorry - didn't mean to offend.

That is AWESOME News!! I get so disappointed because I KNOW the band can be better than what they are . . . I mean - c'mon . . . it's Carroll!

hmmmm...the only post from Allen has been AllenDad, so I guess I will contribute.
I have never liked when the Allen band played loud to disrupt the other teams offense. However, after reading the posts here, I see that it is a common practice. Thanks, I have a different opinion now. Play it LOUD Escadrille.

Hmmm never known for Southlake having a loud good sounding band:confused:

Don't they come in 25th in competition out of 25 bands? Maybe gettting better:confused:

Did hear them playing the same tunes as Allen on TV against Rockwell? :D

Now there's a band who plays loud, causes false starts and even threatened for Technical foul during football game. Hmm last I looked at NCAA & UIL rules there is no such thing?:p

Not when I was there... I don't know where you're getting these stats. Some proof would be nice, otherwise it's just badmouthing.

I opened up the thread and started reading about Katy-SLC at Texas Stadium.....What the ???

Then saw the '05 dates.

Me too! Until I saw my post that was about 3rd or 4th down then I realized it was two years old!! There was no reason why it was brought up either...guess we just need to look at the dates every time:)

I'm actually sad to know this. I'm a former Carroll Band alum (from way way back) and now have a freshman in the band. I know the band could be better if they had less in it, but I liked that it gave the kids something to participate in. Getting involved in high school is very important, and the band gave them that opportunity. I guess as a parent, I don't need the band to be the best in the state (I don't need the football team to be either). I do need the band to be there for my kids.

I see the problem isn't "crap players" - it's lack of discipline, lack of desire to be the best. I see it every Friday night and every contest...

I agree. When I say "crap players", I don't mean kids who aren't necessarily the bast, I mean anybody who goes out on the field not giving 100%. That's my definition of a crap player. It just pisses me off that I was out there doing my very best, and at the same time there were people :Censor:ing around out there not doing their best.

The good thing is that they are not simply cutting half the band. They will have a "varsity band" that marches the competition show and all, and a "non-varsity band" that will play stand tunes, and do the drill team song at halftime, and will probably march during playoffs, so everyone who wants can still participate.

Well, that doesn't sound too bad. I love the band in the stands - and I've got a kid coming up soon that can't wait either.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the half time show tonight.

Bandmouthing - Coined as a term in american lexicon in November of 2007 during a discussion on an internet chat forum about High School bands affecting the outcome of a game. Normally during chat discussions about 5A high school football in texas the fans of various teams have lively exchanges often refered to as smack talk or talking smack about the other team also refered to as badmouthing the other team. When this smack talk takes place in discussions about High School marching bands it's refered to as "Bandmouthing" the other people or band. This is all in a generally light hearted and jovial context done for fun. Unless a big long explaination is required for people to get the joke about the use of the word and then it just becomes tiring. :D

Cheers,

Marching season just ended. They need to stay mean for when they turn in the brass instruments for the flutes and woodwinds.

So, how did everyone like the half-time show? To answer the thread, I felt like the fans loosened up after the show and in the second half. I choose to believe that the SLC Band helped.:D

Actually, it would require the band to play in tune, which Carroll seems to have trouble doing. :(

Oh how true that is...

Too many egos is what it is. People with titles, insantly think their always right, thus they say their in tune, when their not...and it goes down hill from there.

Trust me, we all know were out of tune, we hear it every week, and sometimes it gets fixed, then other times the egos step up and it goes the opposite direction...

I think the SLC band is terrific. Honestly, I think you guys have more FUN than any band I've seen. My freshman daughter has a blast in the band. She was banging on a trash can last night. (If you are wondering which one she is, she is the really pretty one.)

I don't think it matters where the band sits in Texas Stadium the sound is just going to be horrible... way too much echo.
