Honestly though, I don't feel as bad for the Circuit City employees as I do for others who lose their job. Not many people are told "hey you have a month+ to find a new job"
Still feel bad for them and i understand how hard it is to find a job right now, but still

Still feel bad for them and i understand how hard it is to find a job right now, but stillSomeone I know works for a rather large company (not Circuit City) and is pretty high up on the ladder and he has had to RIF (Reduce In Force i.e. what they call layoffs) many people unfortunately but he said when they are notified they have I think either 2 weeks or a month of paid time to find a job and in most cases the person knows (is unofficially told) before they are officially notified so they have some time in advance to look for jobs. The sad thing is he says that due to the economic crisis they are beyond the point where the RIF people are the underperforming employees... now the company says you have to cut whatever percent of your people and they are all quality workers. :(

I always went shopping at Best Buy and purchased at Circuit City. The service at Best Buy is just gonna get worse now...

They said GE would take care of it. The same toll free number is the one you'd call

Hey man. Who is your friend who worked at the New Braunfels store. My best friend worked there until a few days ago and I know some of the staff.

I always liked Bestbuy. Circuit City employees were always rude, and I just never really liked the place at all. I hate to see Circuit City go because they were conveniently located down the street, but they are going to open a Bestbuy on Wallisville and BW8 pretty soon.

They wouldn't drop their prices while they were liquidating. I walked out and told them I hope they go out of business.

Rude or not, I always got immediate assistance in CC. I could stand around for 30 minutes in Best Buy and no one would help me.
And, IF I did get help at BB, their inventory system was always a mess. They never have the items their computer system says they have.
Did anyone here actually buy anything from this "sale?" I went in there three times over the 8 week span and only bought something the day before it was set to be closed forever, a 100 pack of DVD-R for $7. Everything else in the store was priced UP and "discounted" to a price that was still higher than I could get at newegg or Fry's. Not to mention there was a no return no refund policy. I was surprised to see how many people were waiting in the checkout lines with expensive electronics that could be DOA. Maybe I didn't look hard enough?

Ah. I never really went over there. I did glance over there and see some CD's left the day before it closed. You know your music sucks if CC can't even give it away.

I went to Circuit City on Saturday and bought 3 XM radio's for $7 each. Now I just have to pay the monthly cost for the kids to have them:rolleyes: I don't know what I did before XM - I go from Fox News to Cinemagic to Paul McCartney to the 60's and 70's - all on the way to and from work. Oh and the Sinatra station is pretty sweet too as is Classic Vinyl.
I never really went there - I'm a Best Buy girl - they were so no knowledgeable about anything and they were too expensive.

I've had XM Radio in my car for the last 3 years lol. I love it too! It was built in when I bought the thing.
I bounce around between different stations myself. The dance station gets me pumped up when I want to go out on Friday or Saturday night. :D
BPM, XM81 is the sh8t!!! I got all my friends with Xm radio addicted to that station.
I only listen to it through my DirecTV. Had it in my car, but I prefer local talk. Not as much music that my local(what used to be alternative station) can't provide.

I wasn't prepared to take a risk like that. TV arrives with a busted screen because some soon to be laid off stock boy threw it around I'm out $900. No return, no exchange, manufacturer doesn't cover screen damage. I also found that Circuit City was pricing their TV's up to MSRP then discounting but a 46" for $900 sounds like a pretty great deal.
How you like it so far? What brand was it?

I walked out of Circuit City when they were trying to sell an Xbox 360 game for $55 when I saw the same game at Best Buy for $50. It was supposed to be "discounted" lol

On Saturday, someone bought one of the 4 remaining TV's and they were loading it, without a box or anything or even dollies and dropped it. OUCH!
I bought a 56" a couple of years ago - a Mitsubishi DLP HD - and paid $1700 for it on sale (Circuit City had it for $2300). About 2 months ago, it just went out. We bought a new bulb for $200 but that wasn't it. Then I had a thought to call Mitsubishi directly because the place we bought it from, Conn's (yes they are), wouldn't stand by it - it was only 15 months old. Mitsubishi picked it up and had it repaired - they said there was a defect in that particular one - works like a dream now...it never was quite right up to the breaking point. Now, my question is, if someone bought one like that on Saturday and it went out the door with no warranty or anything - I guess that was just $1000 down the tube if it breaks down? In their case it was lost money because the customer broke it (the people at CC were not loading the TV) . I would never take that risk because if it was a floor model to begin with so it's been abused anyway.

Well it doesn't go out the door with no warranty the manufacturer still covers the product for one full year. I don't know how it works on open-box items but I would assume they would have to cover it from the date of purchase. They won't, however, cover accidental damage or damage done to the screen. They dropped that thing they are SOL. Never, and I repeat NEVER, take your own TV to your car. You make them do it for you.
Some women bought a Plasma from Circuit City somewhere up north maybe Wisconsin and opened it up at home to find the screen shattered. Federal bankruptcy laws overrule state consumer protection laws so there wasn't much she could do. Circuit City wouldn't take it back. Last I read she had her credit card company get the manufacturer to fix it but I'm sure it was a pain in the ***.

Therein lies the rub - they had a big sign that read "U HAUL - U LOAD" - they weren't lifting a finger.
And just some food for thought - I didn't buy the warranty and the manufaturer's warranty was for one year. My TV broke down at 15 months but since it was a flaw on Mitsubishi's part, they honored it for 2 years. Anyone who runs into any issues should at least try calling the mfg even if it is beyond the warranty. They don't want the bad name out there. There was always something wrong with this TV because it would just cut out and we'd have to wait 10 minutes to turn it back on - haven't had any problems since the repair.

Yeah Circuit City was all kinds of awful business practices during the fire sale. I was approached by a guy in street clothes and asked if I needed help. "Um no thanks random stranger I am fine." Turned out he was an employee.

the extended warranty offered by Circuit City was a 3rd party company. Any warranties purchased from them are still good. AND most tvs have a manufacturers warranty as stated above.
And people need to realize that there were some things that really were on sale.
