Last year's run through nationally ranked:
Denton Ryan
Abilene
and Lufkin
then Smithson Valley...
or this year's group
I-Mac 9-1
Allen 9-2
Abilene 12-0
Plano 13-0
Lufkin 14-0
Katy 15-0
I still think last year's run was tougher but this year's
teams had a combined record of 72-3. That my friends is salty!

I think this years run has been tougher, just for the simple fact that the bullseye has just gotten bigger with each win. The teams we have faced have had a much better record than last year. Both have been great

Agreed - this year is tougher. But the wins this year have been more impressive.

this years southlake team definately deserves the championship this year as they had the toughest road to state out of any team in texas.

this year, just the way we went out about defeating teams the way we did..
but, IF we dont win, then last years is better..

The 05 team is just "protecting the tradition." Seriously, 05 has had a great run. Look at the playoff run. Abilene, Plano, Lufkin, and now Katy all undefeated. IMAC 1 loss (at the hand of DivI State Champ Trinity), Allen 2 losses (IMAC and Plano). It's been a challenge and 05 has met it head on.

This year cuz the SLC defence has had 4 shut-outs and this year the defense is a lot better.

As far as tougher opposition, I'd go with last year. I believe Allen, Abilene and Lufkin all fielded better teams against us last year. No arguement that Plano was a tougher 4th round opponent than DR. If you're talking about Carroll's performance, its definitely this year. Even our most jaded fans had to be impressed by the complete domination in the first three rounds on both sides of the ball. When you throw in two strong second halfs against Plano and LP, the 2005 team is the clear winner.

Katy is 14 - 0; we lost a game to the hurricane. I agree that SLC's playoff run is extraordinary.

I too would have to go with last years team. I don't think you would find many objective fans that would say that any of the teams we have faced in the playoffs have been up to the caliber of last year. That being said, nothing is being taken away from this bunch, they have gone about beating whoever lines up against them.

Gee - the process (UIL playoff structure) attempts to put forward the best teams for any run - attempting to ensure the best team is labelled the Champion.
Thus it would seem that each team that gets and wins in the finals can claim that they took on the best the state had available.
Very difficult to claim that the quality of the program and competition levels year over year would be sufficiently equivalent to compare.
I would also think that a different process (e.g. seeded scheme or superbrackets) may lead different set of trials and tribulations which may not have produced equivalent experiences affecting capabilities or awareness in later games - possibly leading to different conclusions.
All these could'as or would'as are interesting - but the winners for a given year have the right to consider themselves Champions and deserve the right to feel that they are the best.
