Roy Williams returns to Odessa for youth athletics

The Central Permian Basin Youth Athletic Association (Pop Warner football) held their youth football camp on June 9th through 11th, culminating with a ceremony to retire former Permian standout Roy Williams' Ross Bengals jersey. After a speech from former Permian Head Coach and current ECISD Athletic Director Gary Gaines, Mayor Larry Melton proclaimed June 11th Roy Williams Day. Roy then took the field and wowed the youngsters with stories and good advice for football and for life. The festivities concluded with autographed items being given away to 40 lucky campers. Proceeds from the camp and tickets sales, plus a generous donation from Roy, will fund scholarships for disadvantaged young athletes in Odessa.
