There is a lot of talk between Carroll and Katy fans. Whenever a person from one side of the argument states something, the other side comes back with 62-1 defending state champs or 03 we beat you.
I would like to know what you think is more important to this matchup:
1. Being the defending state champion and 62-1 overall in 5A.
or
2. Having beaten the team that you are playing 2 years ago for the state championship.

Neither. What's important is, both teams are playing the last game of the year and both are impressive programs.

I don't think either are MORE important. I think one fuels the other. Playing each other again is a very emotional experience for so many on different levels. As a result- many are on edge. Lot at stake in this one, more than we know right now.

the question is which is more important, not are these stats important. I feel they are pretty close to meaningless, but one can be more important than the other.

62-1:eek:
We beat you in '03 doesn't matter as much as 62-1 with two 5A Championships.
2003 "We Beat You " Games
Garland beat Lufkin
Lufkin beat Katy
Katy beat Southlake Carroll

First off neither team is 62-1. SLC's program is 62-1, but the only part of records that matter in this game is that each TEAM is undefeated (SLC is 16-0 and Katy is 15-0). Katy's 2003 championship doesn't hold much water either as that team is gone and a new one is here to play.

Good question. If Katy wins - 62-2 loses some of it's luster because Katy would have two of the last three titles and beat SLC to do it - plus their comeback is 2-0. Plus, the 4 straight championship games flattens a bit when you state 2-2 out of the 4, rather than 3-1.
If SLC wins, it makes the lone '03 loss that much more of a blip - and complete, utter domination talk floats around for another year - justifiably so.

whatever happens right now trumps everything else.

I think both are in the back of your mind, but what your really looking at is the fact that if you win you can say for the rest of your life I was a State Champion. Records come and go and teams lose to teams and sooner or later they trade wins and loses but a State title can never be taken away from you.
