Everyone I have talked to said their 40 time was jacked up because of having to run on Grass...I said that was more like Football Speed anyway...running on a track in spikes does not equate to Football speed...IMHO who said Katy RB had good showing? just curious because the guys I talked to said he did ok, nothing spectacular...
Any word on why the LB's after getting beat were allowed to hold onto or bump into or push down Wide Outs??? That does not happen in real games when the ball is in the air w/o yellow hittin the turf...

Yep....I could run for 2000 yards if I played behind Katy's line....and they ran the ball.;)

Tough to say he was hurt most of last year as a soph. I think you mean Jeffery.
But Jeffery I wouldnt say is a D1 runningback but he is a really good and slippery back. The thing that caught my eye is the way he catch a crease and be gone.

Rod, I heard that alot of the 40's were jacked up because different lines used different interpretations of first movement. Some started the watch on any movement, others waited until there was forward movement.

Are yall talking about Katy's RB or Morton Ranch's? I know that the Morton Ranch RB was the RB MVP and invited to the National 100 camp.

Coming out of the camp also was Desmond "Tank" Jackson being named the #2 sophomore in TX.
Gotta love it!

We're looking at this combine in Austin in early June. For those of you who have done this, I assume it's worth the money and time. Is it fairly organized with the boys rotating from one "test" to the next? Give us some details on the actual process. Thanks!

Here is a Rivals write-up.

It was our first combine after attending several camps. My son had also done the NUC Passing Academy last summer. (save your money)
I was only luke warm on the event. It was hosted by Westfield HS and the staff there was terrific. I attended the Saturday, for 2011 kids, with my son. The rain and a head wind jacked the 40 times up. The shuttle was also tough, as a lot of kids were sliding. They also stop the clock when the hips cross the line, not the head or shoulders. All in all, it was pretty well organized. However, you cannot compare times from this event to even other NUC events due to the conditions. The only validity is in comparing times from kids at this event.
On Saturday FBISD showed it has the athletes, but true to form, they are scattered across 4 different HS.
All in all its about 3 parts beauty pagent 1 part skill assesment. However, if your son want to play at any level in college, or just see where he stackes up with his peers, its worth it to try one of these events.
My son is participating in the Football U event this weekend over at Rice, so we will have something to compare. However, this is a skills camp with combine tests as part of the event. I will be happy to share my thoughts on it next week.

The other complication was that the last guys through the shuttle had the misfortune of running in the muddy trench left by all the guys in front of them. In my estimation you need to run these at schools with true turf not grass.
Overall I like the NUC better than the other combines. I hate the format of the Nike Sparq combine, PJ will never go to those again. The Under Armour Scout Combine was very well run up in Dallas a whole lot like NUC but with the good Uni's they gave out and the Under Armour guy screaming his chant with 150 guys...it was cool.
PJ won the RB MVP at last years soph NUC, what is the Morton Ranch RB's name and other info...stats, etc..

So, just to get this straight in my mind, the shuttle is -- for example -- you start on the 10 yard line, go to the right and touch the 15, then back to the left and touch the 5, then back to the 10 (or vice versa if starting to the left). Is that right?
What were the one-on-one drills? The NUC describes them as position match-ups, lineman skills, skill position skills, and QB throwing (that one is self-explanatory, I guess).
I also saw where each session is limited to 200 athletes. The Austin one starts at 8:00 p.m., so if there are 200, would it last maybe 3 hours??
Thanks again for the info.

Anyone from Fort Bend Austin?
Not that I recall.
Elkins, Marshall and Dulles were well represented and had several players recognized.

We went to the Austin NUC last June - were in the first group of the day and it started at 1 - ended at 8:00PM. Can't imagine when the 2nd group finished up, since they probably didn't get on the field until 9PM! Lots of parents complaining and saying the NIKE combine runs more smoothly and quickly. The more opportunities to get your son's name out there the better, just be prepared for a long day or night.

Wow. Guess we'd better taken some provisions with us! Hopefully, they are better organized this time around. By the way, when I originally saw the date for the Austin NUC this year, it listed Round Rock ISD stadium as the location. Now, however, it says "TBD". Our paper here reported that the State Soccer Tournament on April 9-11, which was also supposed to be at RRISD stadium, has been moved to the new stadium in Georgetown due to construction at RRISD. So, my bet is that the NUC combine may get moved for the same reason. Kellie

I agree with this statement. My son was a LB in this group and it was ridiculous. They were allowed to basically tackle the RB and WR coming out of the back........hold.....drag to the ground. Im not sure what this showed anyone.

Ok, so I normally dismiss the physical play calling unless I witness it first hand. So when PJ came home and told me the LB's basically got to tackle the RB's I told him to man up...of course he was not happy about that statement. He always thinks someone is gettin over on him..:D
That said I recently got an email with the videos from the NUC in Houston. I scrolled down to the video of the LB MVP Kenneth Dickie and watched for the first time today. I have included it below.
Scroll down the page until you get to the LB MVP video of Kenneth Dickie. Pay close attention to the 40 second mark and the 47 second mark, PJ is in white and KD is in black. After the 47 second mark watch Coach Schuman high five a very good athlete because he made a horrible play.
PJ made it to the showcase and was invited to the Ultimate 100 again this year, but I have to wonder if they do not change the way they run one on one's it could be seen as a reason not to go. An injury is not worth some good press at a combine. Then again maybe a few cut blocks out of the backfield would even up the playing field...
