yes they were runner up at state 2 years ago and garnished a top 25 ranking for preseason last year, but a disapointing early exit probably gives people doubts about that team even though 6-7 players on this team played as soph/frosh on the state runner up team

Whoever comes out of region 3 will be battle tested.
While the DF-Dub may pwn all in football, the greater Houston area is the mecca of HS baseball in Texas right now. They always seem to have 5-6 teams who are legit title contenders.

As someone who spent 5 years working for Coach Bertman and along side Dan Canevari, Bill Dailey, Turtle Thomas and of course the great "Beetle" Bailey at the LSU Baseball Camps during the late 90's...I would of course have to agree with you!

Wow, some mighty big names right there, cool deal...

Back to Coppell..I've seen them as high as #2 in some preseason polls for this year-no doubt they have some talent...

Coppell #5 in this poll below...#11 is Bellaire and Flower Mound is #19 ...Of course this poll hates Louisiana, so we won't use this one...

5 Coppell (Texas) HS 30-7 (NR)
The Cowboys won't have any shortage of offense in 2009. Six players are signed to play at D-I schools and two of them are in the Baseball America High School Top 100. C Jonathan Walsh (Texas, .337-4-35) anchors the lineup but will have a strong supporting cast that includes his twin brother, OF David (Texas-Arlington, .344-0-8), SS/RHP Chad Kettler (Oklahoma, .394-5-34; six saves), 3B/SS Austin Elkins (Dallas Baptist, .417-8-26) and RHP Zak Hermans (9-2, 1.06). Senior OF Jacob Morris (Arizona State) will continue to try switch-hitting to use his good speed.

11 Bellaire (Texas) HS 37-7 (44)
The preseason No. 1 in Texas, Bellaire is looking for its first state championship since beating Duncanville (Texas) High in 1999. Head coach Rocky Manuel has been with the program since 1991, amassing more than 800 wins in his time as a Cardinal. He has three solid arms to make up his rotation in senior RHP Tyler Duffey (Rice), sophomore LHP Toller Boardman (7-1, 0.38) and junior RHP/3B Kyle Chaskin (6-1, 1.00; .383, 34 RBIs. The offense will also have two other solid seniors in OF Jarrett Higgins (.314-2-22) and 1B Trace Knoblauch (.300-2-20), the nephew of former major leaguer Chuck.

19 Flower Mound (Texas) HS 20-16 (NR)
Aside from the Jaguars' winning tradition, Flower Mound has six returning pitchers who logged innings in the 2008 playoffs. Senior RHPs Chris Asing (Gonzaga) and Logan Brunkenhoefer (Oklahoma State) should see significant innings while also getting support from LHP Noah Ringenberger and projectable junior RHP Shane Henderson. There is tough competition in Texas this year and Flower Mound's preseason No. 3 rank in the state's 5-A class will make them a target.

Sheesh, it was right in front of me...

Tigers line-up,, way to much for Mustangs

Traveling the 1597 miles from Watsonville, in northern California, to Katy, Texas, Monte Vista Christian Head Coach Don Keithley surely expected a much better performance out of his Mustangs ball club. Katy jumped all over the Mustangs starting with the first batter of the game when Michael Webber caught one off the end of the bat creating a miscue at 2B and Jared Fancher made the Mustangs pay with an RBI double and the Tigers took the early lead in the first and poured it on from that point on. Scoring three runs in the first, seven in the second, three in the fourth, the Tigers overwhelmed the Mustangs in just four and one-half inning of play.

Monte Vista was able to generate some traffic on the bases mainly because of Katy miscues but the Mustangs were never able to put a string of runs together to get back in the game. The Mustangs were able to score a run in the top of the third on a compilation of infield and outfield errors on the Tigers including a dropped fly ball and a throwing error.

It figured that Moody has a god team this year.
They always do.
CC Carroll does have a good team as well....

A good preseason showdown is going to be Carroll vs Moody. It was always awesome to watch them play during district.

I remember a few years back when Moody won state Carroll played them for the district title and they played at Whataburger Park and the place was packed. I think it nearly sold out.

I don't really know much about the Texas teams, but Parkview Baptist (Baton Rouge) is definitely one of Louisiana's best, or have been lately....They've won 9 or 10 State Titles (3A here)...

Holding this bunch to 2 runs and 5 hits was a job well done by the Flower Mound..

Parkview Baptist and Rummel (my school) will be playing each other later this month in a Tourney in Pensacola, Florida...Not sure of the Florida teams playing just yet...Tate (FL) is one of them....Should be fun..
