Ok, everyone... this is my first post on this site and first I want to say it has been a great year in high school football, and my Lufkin Panthers. But here is my question - "Where will UIL put us next?"

We seem to be bounced around from one district to the next. I would like to get back with the East Texas schools again.... What do ya'll think? and what about other schools, are any of you going to change?

Hey Copperas, are ya'll staying at 5A - or dropping to 4A? I thought I heard you had another school in your district that will take away some of your students....

Why would 13-5a want that to happen?
They already own that district and they aren't even in it.

Cove may drop down...they reported 1,949 kids........depends on how high the cut-off raises. Last time it raised by 25..........heard it's going to raise a little higher this year.

Just because they beat 2 teams by 7 and 10, they own 13-5a...I bet if we were to play again on the same night with the same players we could of pulled off the win....

COVE is not dropping down. Won't happen. They will petition to stay 5A even if numbers are off.

Welcome aboard DMC77 - most from Lufkin know you. Who wouldn't love to see ET football somehow get back together. It would require an outlying MEtroplex school to agree to it, however, and I don't see that happening. My hunch is we'll get thrown in the hopper this go around with a couple of B'mont schools and maybe the Humble area schools - goodness knows our existing district will try to get rid of us.

I'm wondering if the UIL might try & put Carroll & Trinity together...

It's anybodies guess what will happen but I grant you things will be shaken up as it was last time.
My question is, who decides this. I know UIL by name does, but who makes up the UIL panel that has the job of doing this? Is it coaches, non related board members and such? Just wondering if there was a possibility of influance from outside sources? How do you get people to do this in a totally unbiased manner? I really don't know how this is done so that is why I'm asking. I guess the short question would be, do schools themselves have any input on this procedure or petition after the fact? I understand Desoto petitioned last time which is what put us playing in Houston.

I think Humble is getting a new high school next year, but I don't know when they will start playing varsity sports. I wonder how much that is going to hurt Humble High as they are coming from there. They could put the Humble schools, the Aldine schools and Lufkin together, not quite as far to Aldine or Humble as it is to Klein. With the new Humble school that would make 8 teams. Just a thought, probably will never happen.

As they've proven with the current alignments, there are going to be some decisons made that will have us all scratching our head once again asking the same question we did two years ago "What were they thinking?" Considering most of the decision are made with travel distance in mind you wouldn't think it would be all that hard to figure out. As far as North Shore goes i have a feeling we don't go anywhere and stay with the Pasadena schools,Deer Park, and La Porte. If we do move it would only make sense to put us with the Baytown schools and may be the humble or Spring schools.

I know in the last one, the issue was travel time for all the sports, JV teams, week day games with classes the following day.... BIG questions... All I know is that we (Lufkin) are in an area that are not that close to very many schools. I figure it will be Humble and Beaumont schools... but Tyler and Longview are right here in East Texas.

I agree that the issue will be "will they change the enrollment numbers"?

Trinity fans have been wondering the same thing. That's OK, I have a life-time option on my Trinity season tickets at Pennington Field so I'm OK for the home game ticket-wise.

It would definately eliminate the possiblity of both schools meeting in the playoffs

not with four teams making the playoffs. Both could go D1 and meet in the regional final for a second meeting.

Interesting...I hadn't heard about a change in the post-season setup. Tell me about the new playoff format

next year in 5A four teams will make the playoffs from each district creating two 64 team brackets

Thanks dragon...I didn't know it was so soon, I'd heard of some kind of reshuffling, I'd sort of held hope for a super bracket with seedings within each division...we can only dream

P.A. Memorial from what I understand might be put with Humble schools, Spring schools, lufkin and WB.

I really hope we drop to 4A that would be better for us. Oh, and FIRE COLBERT!

I just looked on the Humble ISD web page and it does say they will start playing varsity sports the first year, with the exception of wrestling. That will be an interesting mix with the realignment, as now their will be 3 schools in Humble. Do you know if they will have the numbers to be 5A at the start, or will they start out smaller? I know that Humble is huge and they are taking some students from there, are they also taking some from Kingwood, which is even bigger than Humble? They are suppose to build another high school in Kingwood called Kingwood Forest, but I haven't heard much about it since the bond election when they announced the money would be to build two new high schools.
