True, but your giving less than you were under Bush and likely would have under McCain correct?

I am a Methodist, but am thinking of taking a spiritual discipline, daily reading/prayer/something, and not giving something up.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

study Mike Leach on public speaking/ interviewing. see if you could pull off a more disheveled yet candid performance while doing the weather, calling out 85k aggies, or just thumbing your nose at your AD...:D

cannot go wrong with prayer and Bible study, IMO.

I've suggested to KT2000 to make a sticky thread on religion. I bet it would be as volatile and interesting as any political thread.

I amazed at the number of Republicans that have suddenly become budget hawks and are now worried about long term deficits and the national debt. If you have voted Republican after 2004, you have voted for big spending, big government, deficits, and wasetful stimulus packages.I will forgive 2000, because you voted for a promise, but by 2004 the record is now clear.

Unless you voted Ron Paul in the primary and then Libertarian in the general, then there's no grounds for you to to gripe about spending. You've been voting and nodding your heads along with the Republican pundits in praise of the biggest spendthrifts in history until this group. You're just mad that it isn't your side spending away my future.

You don't get to gripe. You never had any gripes when GWB was doing the same thing as Obama for eight years, which was spending the nation into oblivion. You went out of your way to explain it away and justify it. Like most, you don't really care what anyone does as long as they have the right letter behind their name.

Haha1 It's Lent... not lint. (It ain't pronounced the same). :D :D :D :p

A few years ago, I gave up red meat for lent (still got to eat chicken). That sh** was HARD!!! Then I gave up fast-food for lent...and that was hard!!

I ain't gonna lie, though. It worked! I lost weight each time and when I gave up fast-food I saved a good amount of money. Ramen Noodles were my friend.

The whole plan is flawed. Anything that a person, in most cases, gives up for 40 days is something they shouldn't be doing to start with. I used to live in New Orleans and was there for the last few days and God doesn't want people to act like fools and then be good for 40 days.

You do realize that the point of Lent is not to just give up your vices for 40 days but to limit or eliminate your vices altogether. Lent is a highlighted time to remind Christians (notably Catholics) that it's time to try to live without some of your guilty pleasures or things you indulge in too much.

Lent season (for me anyway) is a time to reflect on some things I will try to limit or better myself in. I gave up cussing for Lent a long while back and it helped. I didn't have to cuss like a sailor to get my point across. I didn't have to eat out as much (and I don't eat out as much as I used to). I don't eat as much as red meat as I used to.

So, please understand this...Lent is not a time where you give up something, like smoking a bag of weed a day, for 40 days and after Easter you smoke a bag of weed a day again.

blah blah blah.... see, why did you need lent to be a better person? If I needed to stop something indulgent, I would do it. I don't need a religous reason to do so.

You don't have to be Catholic to Celebrate Mardi Grau, you just have to wanna drink many beers, throw beads, or flash.

It's not like I decide to make changes only during Lent but when Lent arrives I look and see what else I should be doing to become better.

See...I don't get this. I don't see why you bash something that is (meant to be) used to help people better themselves. If Lent helps people to limit their vices, then what's the problem? It has helped me very well so why do you have issues with that?

That's ok. Many people have and I don't really have a problem with it. I really don't. Catholicism, I guess, isn't meant for everybody, I suppose. I've noticed though that each Catholic church can vary greatly on how they present the word. Just in Lubbock alone, I've been to a few Catholic churches and each have a different approach. Some speak very coldly and say we must repent. Others are more optimistic and seem more friendly and open to people that have sinned. It just seems that way.
