We do favorites and best all the time. What is your submission for absolute crappiest band/artists.
I humbly submit Nickleback. I would support a Constintutional Amendment that disenfranchised everyone who bought a Nickelback album, or paid for/knowingly downloaded any of their music. I firmly believe it is evidence of a mental defect.

Any and all RAP bands or artist. It's like listening to someone dragging their fingernails across a blackboard. I also don't like Country very much. I know...I'm weird.
I never liked Grateful Dead or Bob Dylan even though Dylan's work was good lyrically the music and singing to me were/are awful to my ears.
What is it about Nickleback that you guys don't like. Sometimes I can't tell the difference between them and Puddle Of Mudd.

Most rappers don't even make the music they're rapping to. All they do is rhyme. Good poetry is the long lost skill of rapping. I'll take a rapper who knows how to play a guitar before one who doesn't mainly because he will understand how music is suppose to be structured. R&B artists are leaps and bounds above rappers because they can actually sing. Most rappers have no musical value. I grew up on rap but I still know music.

Anyone can hold a guitar in a video and act like they're playing it. If you show me a video where he's actually putting the track down on to pro-tools or whatever musical program they might be using then I'll give weezy some credit. He doesn't even make beats.
EDIT: The person who made the lollipop beat is Jim Jonsin he also makes a lot of B.O.B's beats.

Donald Fagen can't sing live but Steely Dan's music is amazing.
They're able to cover up his voice inadequacy in studio.
Dylan and Springsteen on the other hand. Not only can you not cover up their crappy voices, the music is pretty freakin bad to begin with.
Kenny G, can we all agree on that?

Steely Dan, Eagles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Otis Redding, Billy Joel, Genesis
From the 80's:
I thought the Eurythmics and Pet Shop Boys were very underrated. Even Culture Club did not get their due credit because Boy George looked so freaky. Simple Minds and Talking Heads had good stuff too.

I guess it just goes to show ya that this is a subjective thread. It's like arguing about how good or bad liver tastes.
Thats the key to a thread like this...Its very subjective...just the topic alone is subjective...Everyone will generally list groups they dont personally like or groups in genres that they dont like. There are many on this thread that have been considered some of the best of all time, yet people list them as the crappiest or worst.

Agree. However, given the reputation of ones like Dgnbkr and Dawg, I would be willing to bet that if guys like Springsteen and Bono leaned to the Right in their political views then they would consider them amongst some of the best and would argue that based on record sales and longevity alone would be reason enough to warrant their reasoning.:D

Politics tend to cloud judgements of others...It never matters what political view someone has when your fighting side by side in a war...or your on the side of the road with a flat tire and someone stops to help...Or you have your groceries bagged at the store....Its beyond belief how people view others through their political microscope on things outside of politics.

From reading this thread, I've learned that most of you have little to no culture where music is concerned.
Sucking and not liking are not the same thing. I'm not a huge fan REM, but they dont suck. People that say U2 sucks have no taste in music whatsoever.
That being said, I could list out numerous bands that I dont care for. Very few of them would classify as "suck" though.

I judge musicians in this thread based on music alone. I may not like the political leanings of some of the artisits I like. I presently don't like any musician or band. I like songs. If it sounds good to me it's the song I like and not the band. I was never a big fan of Springsteen but I do like a couple of his tunes. I could say the same for a few others.

I'll say it, I freaking hate the damn Beatles. Come and give me your best shot, CyFallsMom. I also hate Live. Damn, Live was a crappy, crappy band.
I'm sorry - I have no shot to give - there are lots of people who can't stand the Beatles. I just happen to be one who adores them in every way, shape and form and they are my Messiahs (LOL - well, some of you have the Obamamessiah, I have the Beatlemessiahs - guess we are all alike after all!!;)). I won't go into why, yet again, but they will never be topped by anyone because they wrote the book and broke the mold - end of subject in my world anyway.

All these bands suck, but you have to admit BackStreet Boys are the best ever. NSync and Jonas Brothers are right behind them on the great list. Timeless music, great musicians, the whole package.
Everybody else sucks.
Good thing you are joking. You know I'm a Beatlemaniac but I know some don't like them but, Buddy Holly? COME ON!! He was amazing!

I have no culture where some things are considered. Music happens to be one where I do have culture. As well as movies and books.

The 80's is pretty much your cutoff date as far as when the last of the good music was written. Any new bands or new songs that came after that - I doubt HS kids 25 -30 years from now would even know them let alone be playing it the way HS kids nowadays play music from the 70's and 80's. Their kids will still be listening to 70's and 80's music.

For one thing, we have lived through YOUR culture and OUR culture so we can make an educated opinion on it. Secondly, back in the day, it was MUSIC and not electronic bull crap or rappers not really singing - it was MUSIC and it was created by those who sang it for the most part. I even go so far as to say that the culture BEFORE I was born was better than it was when I was a kid.

The body of work of people like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Louis Armstrong, a lot of the big bands pretty much confirms that the golden years of popular music were enjoyed by our parents/my childrens' grandparents.

I'm 35.
My music culture is better than most mainly because I have it. When I say my culture of music, I dont mean my generation. Not the same thing. I mean my own personal culture where music is concerned.
I beg to differ on some (not all) of the electronic music. A lot of people dont understand the music and they dont understand the emotion going into it. And that's mostly a generational thing really. Rappers.. No, that's not music. It is a form of art and I appreciate it as such. I dont choose to listen to it because it's not something I get into.

I was a music major and spent my time in HS listening to jazz and looking down on those who didn't listen to real music. Had a conversation with my dad about one of his friends who had gone to Juliard and played in the Marine Band and NY Philharmonic.

I liked a lot of the big band stuff, not dance band though. Stan Kenton, Rob McConnell, some of Maynard's stuff. I loved Coltrane/Joe Henderson. I'd be driving through Arlington w/the windows rolled down blaring LaFiesta. Pretty goofy stuff thinking back on it now.
