Uberfail. They should have just stuck with VHS and Stroman. What a long running joke VISD has been over the past 10 years or so. And I hate it when school boards can't man up and pick a real name instead of cardinal direction for a school. I like the argument: "some people say that East and West are generic names, but they are used all over the state." Yeah, dumb:Censor:, that's why people say they are generic.

Another relic of the idea of a mega-HS. It just doesn't work unless the area doesn't stand to ever outgrow being a single HS.

Because they are not the same schools.

Victoria and Victoria Stroman were the two original high schools in the city, with completely different boundaries than the upcoming Victoria East/West. The feds stepped in and forced them to either redraw Vic High/Stroman High boundaries or consolidate due to socio-economic inequities. Im sure it was much less controversial to consolidate than to have former Stingarees attend Stroman High and vice versa. My theory is that they knew 10 years ago that they would be de-consolidating at some point and that after a decade of consolidation, it would be less controversial to re-draw new boundaries for two schools that are socio-economically equitable.

These are 2 completely new schools being built.

They are moving Crain Middle School to the old Stroman campus and Juan Linn Elementary to the old Crain Middle School Campus. :rolleyes:

I don't know exactly when it opened up but it's been after 2000.....I graduated in 2000 and competed against the old VHS Stingarees.

What a fail it is that there are no more VHS Stingarees. Just sad.

2000 was the first season.

2009 will be the last season (in football)...2010 last graduating class.

I know! I miss my Stings! I was the last graduating class from Victoria High (2000).

At least I have great memories from when we were good. :D

What do you mean? lol

Stroman was the "other" school. VHS was always looked at as the "better" school. I am hispanic and the only one in my family to graduate from VHS...everyone else went to Stroman so I was always picked on for trying to be "white" :p

Now you have West and East....and the talk is that West will be the new VHS and East will be the Stroman.

It starts all over again. :rolleyes:

i remember the days of the stings.... victoria memorial never sounded right...now it's east/west?
