I am very curious about this topic. I havent seen a whole lot of teams this year, but yesterday I saw 2 dominant def. lines. Southlake Carroll and Lufkin both have size and speed up front that would rival any team in the state. A.J. Penson for Lufkin is something special. He could possibly play strong safety for some teams. He is huge and can flat out fly. Powers and Boydston for Carroll lead IMO one of the best defensive lines in the state.

Agree or Disagree...

Tell me what you think.

it's hard to argue with the results. those big guys do a great and often thankless job, and the ones you mentioned do it very well.

I won't disagree with SLC's size on DL, not however iimpressed with thier speed. They look huge, but their hips and feet are not near as quick as SV's. 64 and 75 have showed some agility, but 91 and 62 look so laborious just pushing the line. Granted they DO their job, but they didn't pressure Lufkin as much as I thought they would have. I saw fewer stunts than i expected as well.

Good d-lines are certainly a trait of teams playing around this time. At Trinity DE Henry Niutei is definitely an All State caliber player.

South Grand Prairie and Kilgore both had big fast D-Lines as well.

I agree, except for one thing - one of our best d-lineman was out(Randell Murphey) I personally think, had he played, there would have been more pressure on McElroy. Just my opinion:)

He did play and he had several pressure's. Hewitt on offense and now you are saying Murphy did not play?? He played the whole game where were you?? Murphy is a hoss but Penson is the best pass rusher. Murphy is the best run stopper. Both will be back next year. Boydston is a hoss for SLC. Nice looking div1a dlineman. Penson should be highly recruited next year depending on the academic part.

kilgore's eddie jones is the best DL i have seen in high school, and i saw rod wright play at hastings, obviously one at tackle, one at end... anyways, i would say SLC takes the best for doing their jobs award, they hold blockers well, and fill gaps. lufkin can get the...makes the most plays award...if that makes any sense, both are excellent DL's though and next week and excellent DL will meet an excellent OL from katy

This analysis is spot-on. SLC may have a "stronger" defensive line, but it is nowhere near as quick or disruptive as the SV unit. And as far as the 2 young men mentioned in this thread, 75 is much better than 64. He will be one of the 3 SLC defensive players Katy will need to neutralize to win this game.

My dad was really impressed with the ETrinity d-line watching it on TV Saturday.

Yeah Henry Niutei is sleeper prospect who's relentless in pass rushing and in stopping the run, he's Trinity's defensive MVP. As for the rest of the D-Line theyre all undeclassmen who made the 6-5a all district 1st and 2nd teams. They'll be a strength of the team next year.
